We booked through luxury escapes with the junior suite upgrade, as part of the grand reopening package, this gave us massage’s and an extra meal every day. 
The Positives:- our room was enormous with terrace that overlooked the sea, it was nice to wake up to sounds of lapping waves. 
The whole hotel has had a partial make over and a coat of paint, the gardens and water features are excellent, the pool is clean, maintained and a nice size. 
The massage team were very polite, professional and not pushy. Their massages are not expensive and seem to price match going further down the beach.
The Neutrals:-
The refurbishment is cosmetic, the electrical switches are old and yellowed, there’s no usb sockets next to the bed. There seems to be a reluctance in giving you enough towels for your room, 1 small bath towel and a flannel per person, they also provide you pool towels. 
Breakfast was okay, it’s a buffet service with a European selection and Thai selection, the sliced break was just suitable for toast as the crusts and edges dry out quickly. Rita who served coffee in the morning was shining example as was the chef who did a range of egg’s every morning, they both remembered our daily orders. A point of frustration for us was we didn’t find a single fork or knife that wasn’t bent. I guess the refurb’ budget didn’t go that far. The coffee was variable from okay to very bitter. Some of the table staff seem more interested in chatting amongst themselves rather clearing tables. 
The pool furniture is tired and in places dirty with bird droppings, the staff seem reluctant to clear used glasses. 
The included meals on our package were okay, not exciting, the quantity varied, but usually well presented. We ended up going out to a restaurant next to the hotel, which was excellent and great value. 
To swim in the sea is tide dependent, at high tide the waves come right up to and crash into the property wall and it’s impossible and unsafe to enter and walk down the beach. When the tide is out, there’s quite a lot of litter on the shore edge, which you have cross to get into sea. 
Another thing to consider, there are facilities for the disabled. There are no lifts, ramps toilets etc, but loads of stairs, it’s a bit of a drag going to reception to get you key card reprogrammed when it fails. If you’re unsteady on your feet give this place a wide berth. 
The location is about 15-20 mins or 200tb into town. Chewang beach is very lively in the evening, there is something for absolutely everyone there! 
There’s also a western style shopping mall and a great food court. 
Finally what really grated us, there’s a price list of items in our room should we break something or decide to take something. This sits really uncomfortable with us. 
They know the price of everything but the cost of nothing 
We’re happy to be moving on after 7 nights. We wouldn’t come back here and feel uncomfortable recommending it. However we’d certainly come back to Koh Samui

Reasonable hotel, nothing special

The staff were really friendly and attentive, especially in the restaurant, where Aor, Adi & Nuange made lots of effort to look after us. Thank you all for your great and friendly service 😊 It was my wife's birthday while we were here and she was brought a lovely surprise breakfast which was very thoughtful

Great staff enhanced our stay

We stayed here for a week March 24 , weather was amazing !!!!

Hotel was very clean , rooms are huge and beds made up everyday and rooms cleaned daily if wanted 

Good location as it’s not to far from main nightlife of Chaweng 

Nice pool area and right on the beach , beach was very dirty but if you walk down the beach about 10 minutes it gets better 

Would defo stay here again if we come back to Ko Samui

Excellent Stay 😎

Beautiful location , however there are multiple resorts right to it and the beach is common to all here. The lagoon and the beach is what redeems this place. The 2 room family suite where we stayed is spacious and has decent aircon. That and a decent and non-intrusive beach bar service is where the good part ends.

The issues with which I had problems are:

There are too many stairs making you feel vary to leaving the room.

A big grouse was the housekeeping staff entering the room using the master key even when we were in the room. There would basically be a bell rung and the next thing we know the door is opened by the staff without waiting for us to open the door or respond in any way.

The in room dining options are limited.

Another gripe we had was the unimaginative, repetitive and boring breakfast options. We stayed for 4 nights and actually opted to not eat breakfast on 2 days despite having paid for the breakfast option. Yeah...so...There.

Overall, i would stay here without the breakfast option, use the pool and take In the lovely lagoon views from the hotel. 

The rooms were the most spacious of all hotels we stayed over the 20 day period in Thailand

Good spacious rooms &  views, Sad breakfast...We will.give it a miss next time around

Beyond Kanda as the hotel is better know locally, is well situated, being close to Chaweng but far enough out to avoid most of the hustle and bustle. We stayed in a double bedroom suite and found it spacious and well appointed.
The staff are excellent and made our stay, they particularly made a fuss of our little girl who was treated like a princess throughout the stay by them all, including the chef.

A couple of minor points that management could look at:
1)The menu for half board gets really repetitive after a couple of days, having a lunch and separate dinner menu might help with this.
2) The cleaning carts and empty water bottles are all kept in the main stairwell which makes it feel like the service stairs - is there a better location for them to be kept?
3) No chocolate ice cream for the last week of our stay and there were a number of children about
4) No passion fruit at breakfast for the last week.

Other reviewers mention the beach not being good, however we found it to be the best along that particular strip of hotels, much cleaner than further down, so perhaps weather conditions change it?
Location is great, we went to Fishermans Village a number of times in a Tuk Tuk for usually 300THB and Chaweng was around 200THB depending on how hard we wanted to barter. I'm sure you can do it for less if you really push, but in reality you're haggling over pennies for the most part. You could walk along the beach to Chaweng if you wanted, certainly along the beach for the 1st 1/2 mile as the main road doesn't have decent pavements up the hill.
We used the attraction booking in the hotel to do the visits to the elephant sanctuary and Pig Island. No issues at all, everything went smoothly. A 7-11 and Tops supermarket are all within walking distance.

Overall we loved our stay here and would definitely stay here again.
