How long should I have left on my passport in order to travel?

Information for British citizens: When travelling to destinations in the European Union (EU), your passport cannot be older than 10 years when entering the country. You will also need to have at least 3 months left on your passport after the date of your return. This rule applies to both adult and child passports.

For countries outside of the EU, you may need to have up to 6 months validity from the date you return.

Visit the HM Passport Office website and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for further details and for the most up to date information.

Information for non British citizens: If you don’t hold a British passport, travel document requirements may differ to those travelling on a British passport. To check the entry requirements for your holiday based on the country your passport was issued in, we would recommend you visit your relevant government foreign office website.
