We have stayed at multiple hotels in Belek over the years, and we have never experienced anything close to the poor cleanliness, unsafe practices, and lack of basic standards we encountered at Selectum Family Resort Belek. This was meant to be our honeymoon — a trip we paid over £5000 for — and instead it became stressful, disappointing, and at times genuinely unsafe.
We never usually write reviews, but this time we feel people should know what to expect.
Room Cleanliness & Safety
Upon arrival, our room floor was filthy. My feet were black after walking on it. The balcony door didn’t lock, despite us being four floors up with two young children. This is a serious safety hazard. Reception simply said “maintenance will come.” He did come, but couldn’t fix it.
Dust blew out of the air conditioning. I explained clearly that my daughter has chronic asthma and is allergic to dust. Their solution was sending a cleaner who hoovered for two minutes and left.
The hotel upgraded us to a suite after we explained these were not minor holiday inconveniences but health and safety concerns. We were grateful — until we found the same dirty floors again. We requested cleaning; nobody came. We ended up cleaning the floors ourselves, and the towels were filthy afterwards.
Bat Activity & Balcony Issues
Bat activity concerns Another major issue was the bat activity around the hotel. There is a bat sanctuary next door, which meant bats were regularly sitting on and flying around our balcony every evening. Because of this, we couldn’t leave any clothes out to dry — they would simply get covered or risk being contaminated.
One bat even flew up and hit my husband while he was standing on the balcony.
We understand that, like most countries, Belek has native bats. We’ve visited Belek many times and have seen them in the distance before. However, this hotel’s balcony design — with wooden overhangs that create perfect roosting spots — encourages bats to hang directly above guest balconies at night. They defecate onto the balcony floor, making it unhygienic and unpleasant to use.
The hotel does nothing to prevent this, despite other hotels in the Belek region clearly managing the issue, as we have never experienced anything like this in previous years.
At sundown, if you are at the beachfront or beach bar, the bats fly extremely close to you, which is uncomfortable and not ideal for families with young children.
Pool Hygiene
This is where our previous Belek experience made the situation even more concerning. At every other hotel we’ve stayed in, if the pool is contaminated, it is immediately closed for at least an hour. In previous years, we’ve watched lifeguards regularly dip‑test the water to ensure safe levels.
A child defecated in the pool. My husband informed the lifeguard, and again the response was “maintenance will come.” Two men arrived, threw chlorine blocks into the water while people were still swimming, and never closed the pool. They removed only some of the feces. This is completely against Turkish regulations and absolutely unacceptable for a family resort.
Food Quality & Restaurant Experience
Our children are plain eaters — pasta, chicken, pizza, chicken nuggets. The chicken was rubbery and inedible (like chewing a Haribo). A waiter laughed at me when I asked where the pizza was, despite multiple pictures of pizza displayed around the restaurant.
The 24/7 snack bar was the only reliable food option. The manager there ran it brilliantly. However, it only opened when the main restaurant closed, meaning we had to shift our children’s eating schedule to:
• Breakfast at 10:30 • Lunch at 14:30 • Dinner at 21:30
Not ideal for young kids. Dirty plate trolleys were constantly left around, attracting flies and birds.
Pool Area Safety
The umbrellas around the pool are extremely lightweight and unsafe. Every day they blew over. One day, my four‑year‑old was hit three separate times by three different umbrellas.
Jet2 Support & Emergency Line
Jet2 support concerns Given the number of safety and hygiene issues, my husband called the Jet2 emergency line three times, explaining everything in detail. He even offered to pay up to £3000 out of our own pocket to move to another hotel because we felt so unsafe.
Jet2 told us we would receive a call back the following day. That call never came.
Not once did the Jet2 rep at the hotel come to speak to us, check on us, or offer support — despite the emergency line promising he would reach out. We did not see him at any point during our stay.
For a holiday costing nearly £6000, and for a company that advertises strong in‑resort support, this was extremely disappointing.
Overall
We understand things can go wrong on holiday — but these were not small inconveniences. They were repeated failures in cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and customer support. Having stayed at several Belek hotels before, we know what proper standards look like, and Selectum Family Resort Belek fell far below them.
For a resort marketed as “family friendly,” and for a honeymoon costing almost £6000, this was deeply disappointing. We never normally write reviews, but families deserve to know what they may be walking into.
Good hotel with very pleasent personnel
Good resort, but Mrs. Ana is the real star! (4/5)We spent 8 days at Selectum Family Resort Belek. The complex is large, beautifully green, and clean. The pools, aquapark, and private beach are excellent, making it a great destination for families. The Food:The food is definitely not top-tier. While there is enough variety so you won’t go hungry, it is quite repetitive and lacks flavor or refinement. It is acceptable, but below expectations for a resort of this level. The Highlight - Mrs. Ana:The hotel is extremely lucky to have Mrs. Ana on their team. She is a Romanian staff member dedicated to helping Romanian guests, and she truly saves the overall experience. She is incredibly helpful, stays in constant touch via WhatsApp, and will personally come to assist you if any issues arise. Her support gives you great peace of mind.Verdict:A great resort for its facilities and green spaces, but the culinary side needs improvement. Big thanks to Mrs. Ana for making our stay stress-free!
We had a wonderful stay at the hotel and truly enjoyed our vacation. The rooms were cleaned daily and kept in excellent condition. The food was varied, fresh, and very well prepared, with plenty of options to suit different tastes.
There was also a great selection of sports and cultural activities for all ages, making the stay enjoyable for both adults and children. The staff were attentive, friendly, and always willing to help.
A special thank you to Ana, who was incredibly caring and helpful throughout our entire stay. She was always available whenever we needed assistance and made us feel very well taken care of.
Overall, a great experience — we would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to return!
