Ignore the negative reviews

Just returned from this hotel after a week stay. Honestly I don’t know what all the negative reviews are about. I’m an anxious person so I read ALOT into the negative reviews. Waste of my worrying time!

The hotel is lovely and clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. The cleaners come every day. The rooms are modern and up to a high standard unlike some hotels. The food was great always something for everyone. I was shocked to see fresh lobster one day which was lovely too

The entertainment team genuinely look like they enjoy their job and there is multiple things happening during the day for both adults and children. Evening entertainment was also really good, could do with more seating though

Pool was great and wasn’t cold either. My ONLY negative I have is people being allowed to reserve sunbeds (especially multiple) and not being there all day which I saw on a few occasions. However we did manage to find atleast one empty or someone would give up their child’s bed if they weren’t on it which was nice. I think the life guard should be adding notes to peoples beds who haven’t been on them and in half hour remove the towels. There was one day not one sunbed was free and we saw a family leaving but leaving their towels who told us they were leaving their towels but going up the the room for a couple of hours?! Why not just let someone use the sunbed that you’re not using. That is literally my only negative.

I would 100% return to this hotel and please ignore the negative reviews.

The beaches are so close aswell along with the town and then the restaurants and karaoke bars are a short walk too

Brilliant stay. Thank you Sol Arona. We will be back

A Great Week at Sol Arona, With a Few Tips!

Just finished a fantastic week at the Sol Arona. I wanted to leave a detailed review to clear up some things from previous reviews and leave our honest experience.

The hotel itself is nearly renovated and modern. The communal areas are nicely decorated, and the rooms are spacious and clean (although the balconies are really quite small). A lifesaver of a tip - if you find your bed is moving away from the headboard, there are two brakes on the wheels that need to be pressed in.

The pool area is a mixed bag. The door to the pool opens around 9am, and you find a line starting to form around 8:45. I'd say if you aren't down for 0930, you'll struggle to find beds during peak times. The loungers themselves are good, and there is a decent amount of space between them (not elbow to elbow). Probably space to put in additional sunbeds which would help resolve the "sunbed wars" to an extent, but I have a feeling it would get cramped. The pool is nice, albeit a bit small for the number of guests. Again, at peak times, the water could be a little bit milky and oily, but the maintenance team were always around.

Okay - now the "token" issue around the pool bar. If you are AI (like we were), you'll be given a small wooden token when you arrive. You exchange this token for a reusable cup at the pool bar. You can then use the self-service machines. If you are just drinking beer (San Miguel) you can keep that cup all day. If you suddenly decide to start drinking coke, you simply exchange your dirty beer cup for a fresh one and "hey presto." At the end of the day when you're done at the Pool Bar, you simply hand back your cup(s), and you receive that number of tokens back - then repeat the next day (this stops the usual problem or rubbish and cups accumulating around the pool area). Drink quality was absolutely fine with a good selection of soft drinks, self-service beer, and the bar staff can make cocktails, etc.

The Pool Bar also acts as the snack bar from 12pm. There is a glass cabinet on the right-hand side of the bar that has burgers, hot dogs, chips, etc all pre-packaged in boxes for you to take away (if you're AI). Quality was absolutely fine, and better than many more expensive hotels we have stayed at.

The thing that surprised us the most is the moaning about the food and the temperature. I don't know if people just haven't been to an AI buffet before. Of course it isn't going to be as warm as if you take it out of the oven at home. But it wasn't any different to any other buffet style restaurant in a hotel. The food was genuinely really good with a nice mix of stews, meats, pizza, pasta, fish, and usually a carvery area with lamb shanks or another meat. It could get very busy around 9-10pm (maybe the later food isn't replenished as much and could be a bit colder), but we found that between 7-8pm was ideal. Restaurant was the usual fare for an AI hotel, but was clean and nicely decorated. There were also theme nights each night (there aren't many places where you can pick up an entire fresh crab and take it back to your table).

There is a small, self-service mini-market in the reception. It has a selection of toiletries, alcohol, soft drinks and snacks. But we paid close to 5 Euros for a large bottle of water which is an absolute rip-off. There is a HyperDino supermarket just 3mins walk from the hotel (come outside and turn right) that sells the same bottles of water for 0.90. I'd recommend stocking-up there.

Overall, we really really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.

10/10 for a friend trip away

Stayed for a week and we thought the hotel was excellent! Hotel staff, amenities and hospitality was 10/10. Stayed on a bed and breakfast board which was perfect for us as the hotel was close to many restaurants around Los Cristianos. Breakfast was great had lots of choice and catered to a lot of different tastes. Room was immaculate, very modern and was cleaned daily We found that going to the pool around 9:30-10am was best to get a sunbed, we never had any problems with this all week as there was always a few available even in the peak of the holidays! However if coming as a couple/friends the pool can get very busy and quite noisy! No fault of the hotels as it is popular with families.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Sol Arona, which was in a good location to explore Los Cristianos. We will definitely return!

Sol Arona, great family holiday

Great location, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants walking distance from the hotel.

The hotel had a great atmosphere, thanks to the wonderful entertainment team who were amazing with the kids!! They really made the holiday. Their energy and effort was 110% every day and evening.

Rooms were fine, we went as a family of 7 (grandparents in one room and then three kids and two adults in another room). We had five in our room and it was fine. There was kettle and fridge in room which we used daily, and a great big balcony. Only complaint about being on floor one was that our balcony caught all the dirt and cigarette ash from rooms above. Not the hotels fault and to be honest as small con for having the bigger balcony!

Food was great, we enjoyed breakfast and dinner everyday. Kids were always able to eat. Drinks on tap. Massive bonus was the hotel opened breakfast early for us on our departure day(really nice touch to a perfect holiday).

In general the service was great, staff work hard and are very pleasant.

There are no locks on balcony doors

When we arrived at the hotel we found we were on the 12th floor. That wasn’t a problem initially, however, when we got to the room we found the balcony door did not have a lock. It closed but there was no way to lock it. We were very concerned as we have a 3 year old and it would be very easy for him to climb onto the chairs on the balcony and fall. We went down to reception and spoke to the gentleman who had checked us in and asked if there was a room with a locking balcony door or a room on the ground floor. He told us there was a lock they could put on the door but it would permanently lock the door for our stay. We said if that’s the only option we’d do that. Not ideal as it put the balcony out of use for our holiday for drying swimwear etc but we needed to keep our son was safe. He told us maintenance had gone home but to ask again tomorrow morning. I slept the night on the sofa bed as there was no way we could let our son sleep in the room alone with the balcony door. The next morning we asked about the lock. They said they’d send up maintenance. We happened to be leaving our room when the maintenance man arrived. He seemed confused asking whether our door wasn’t working. I explained to him that we required a lock added to the door and he said he’d come back. No one ever came back and no lock was applied to the door. This meant I had to sleep on the sofa bed the full week to ensure the safety of our son. We also put the table in front of the door so we could hear it if our son tried to open the door- not that we ever left him alone in that room. On the last day of our trip my partner spoke to the jet 2 representative who said she’s never had any complaints about balcony doors and didn’t realise they didn’t have locks. My partner told her she’d seen a number of posts online about the lack of locks since arriving at the hotel. The representative said she would speak to management and get back to us. We have had no communication from her. I think it’s absolutely unacceptable that there are no locks on balcony doors in a 15 floor family hotel that’s packed full of children especially one that’s been recently refurbished. It’s just an accident waiting to happen. I am also disappointed the hotel did not provide a solution and the jet2 representative did not do a follow up. Jet2 have since said the hotel followed local safety laws and as it’s an exit it can’t have a lock. How can the doors to the corridor (the most logical exit in a fire on the 12th floor) be locked but a balcony can’t be? Anyway you decide. Maybe I should book a wee bungalow or something for my next holiday and save my nerves. Other than that the hotel was pleasant. Food was fine. Don’t think all inclusive is worth the cost but half board or b&b good as loads of restaurants nearby. Recommend the inclusive water park deal if you can get it when booking as we went to the waterpark 3 times and there is a free bus is at the hotel gates. Staff fine except for the older lady at reception is a bit short and some of the chef team give you evils as you select food. Maybe they’re fed up I don’t know. As others have said, the pools are too small for the number of guests and you can’t do any actual swimming in them but fine for kids jumping about. I also wouldn’t recommend this hotel if you’re not keen on kids as packed with them. The kids entertainment team were great. Only thing a bit weird was if there was something on in the kids hut sometimes they’d shut the wee park off to reduce distractions. Fair enough but quite a few kids were turned away trying to go to the park.
One night there was a cockroach in the corridor just hanging out. The rooms were clean enough and the sofa bed is big. We couldn’t get a late checkout but used the horrible basement shower. They have a sign saying they’re improving it but who knows when. Overall would I come back? Not until my son learns to fly.
