Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort

We have just returned from a fantastic two-week stay at Princesa Yaiza and, without doubt, it’s one of the most elegant and civilised hotels we’ve ever stayed in.

The hotel has a beautiful, traditional Canarian style and feels luxurious without ever being pretentious. Service was exceptional throughout our stay. Fresh water was delivered to our room every day, towels were changed twice daily, and the evening turndown service was a thoughtful touch that made the holiday feel extra special.

During our stay it was our son’s 10th birthday, and the hotel made it feel really special. We returned to our room to find chocolate cupcakes, balloons and a birthday card waiting for him – a thoughtful gesture that completely took us by surprise and was very much appreciated.

We stayed in a one-bedroom suite (Room 519C) in the main hotel, which was in a perfect location on a high floor with wonderful sea views. The suite also had a kitchenette with a sink, fridge and microwave, which was ideal for preparing a quick lunch or keeping drinks chilled.

The location is hard to beat. The hotel sits directly opposite Playa Dorada beach and is around a 10-minute stroll to both the marina and the town centre, making it easy to enjoy everything Playa Blanca has to offer.

One of our favourite areas was the lower pool. Even though we were travelling with our 10-year-old son, we spent most of our time there because of its peaceful, tranquil atmosphere. The upper pool has a much livelier, family-focused feel, with inflatables and children’s activities, so it’s great that guests can choose the atmosphere that suits them.

Breakfast was superb. We particularly enjoyed the smaller indoor dining room, which offered a calmer, more relaxed experience than the larger buffet area. The choice and quality of food were excellent every morning.

We had dinner at both Don Giovanni and Kampai. Both were very good, but Kampai just edged it for us, with our son especially loving the theatrical teppanyaki-style show cooking. That said, Playa Blanca has so many excellent restaurants that we also enjoyed heading out in the evenings to explore the local dining.

Room service also deserves a special mention. The food was genuinely restaurant quality, which is something we’ve rarely experienced in a hotel.

The absolute highlight of our stay, however, was the Soccer Academy, which runs daily from 10am until noon. It’s led by two former professional footballers, Scott and Garry, and it was outstanding. Our son absolutely loved every session and couldn’t wait to go back each morning. My husband, who is a PE teacher, was genuinely impressed, saying, “It’s proper coaching, not just someone kicking a ball about.” The sessions were well organised, engaging and delivered by coaches who clearly know how to develop and encourage young players. It added so much to our holiday.

Princesa Yaiza is a hotel that gets the little details right. Elegant surroundings, exceptional service, excellent food and thoughtful facilities combine to create a truly memorable stay. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We travelled with our daughter and 9 month old grandson with the intention of helping to care for him during our stay. Instead, we experienced a number of distressing incidents which significantly affected our stay. Firstly, the guest staying next door to our daughter was extremely confrontational, leaving our daughter feeling uncomfortable and anxious about remaining in the room with her young son. We reported the incident, and a member of the management team offered a change of room. We were told to contact reception and staff would assist with the move. However, when she telephoned reception, she was told she could no longer change rooms as that arrangement had been made by another member of staff and was no longer available. The inconsistent handling of the situation caused unnecessary stress and demonstrated poor communication between staff. Secondly, on the day of departure, check out time being 12.00, on returning from breakfast, she discovered housekeeping already cleaning her room for incoming guests, even though she had neither checked out, returned her key cards or settled her account. Our daughter came to find us, and I went to her room to find the room had been cleaned and incredibly the housekeeper using the toilet herself!! Wholly inappropriate for a member of staff to be using the bathroom facilities. At no point did hotel management offer a genuine apology or acknowledge the inconvenience, distress and lack of care shown towards a mother and a 9 month old baby. I believe the hotel failed in its duty of care. Leaving them without suitable accommodation raises serious concerns regarding guest welfare and safeguarding. There was no justification for entering, reassigning the room before the agreed, paid checkout time.

These incidents overshadowed what should have been a special family holiday.

We will not be returning!

Exceptional hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff with an amazing Kids Club. I would thoroughly recommend it for any family to stay. The hotel was kept so well, with maintenance staff constantly working on the upkeep.
