Lovely apartments, but our final night was extremely upsetting
We stayed at Palmeras Garden Apartments for five nights 23rd to 28th of July, as a family and, until our final night, we had been really happy with the accommodation and had enjoyed our holiday. Unfortunately, what happened on our last night completely changed our experience.
We stayed in apartment 48. During the night, my mum and my daughter woke up and found what appeared to be bed bugs in their bed, with marks/insects visible on the bed linen. Both of them were bitten extensively and have been left with numerous red, sore and uncomfortable bites. We took photographs of both the bedding and their bites.
My daughter is autistic, and the experience has caused her a great deal of anxiety and distress. Waking up to find bugs in the bed she had been sleeping in was extremely upsetting for her, and since returning home she has been anxious about sleeping and worried that we may have brought them home in our luggage.
What disappointed me almost as much as the incident itself was how it was handled when I reported it.
At around 10am on the morning we were checking out, I informed reception about what had happened. I was simply told that the cleaner would change the bedding. There was no apparent urgency, no offer to inspect the room while we were there, and no real acknowledgement of the fact that two guests had woken up covered in bites.
As we were travelling home that day, there was little more we could do at the time, but I was very concerned that simply changing the bedding would not be sufficient for a suspected bed bug problem. I sincerely hope the bungalow was properly inspected and treated before another family stayed in it.
It is such a shame because we genuinely liked the apartments before this happened. Had the issue been taken seriously and dealt with appropriately when I reported it, I would feel differently about our experience.
I am sharing this review because I think other guests should be aware, particularly families with children. We have reported the matter formally to Jet2 and provided photographs of the bedding and the bites, and I hope it is thoroughly investigated.
The accommodation itself had been great, but finding suspected bed bugs on our final night, the extent of the bites, the distress caused to my daughter, and the response from reception have unfortunately overshadowed what had otherwise been a lovely holiday.
We are at Palmeras garden right now. Absolutely beautiful. Clean apartament and lovely pool area. And the bar and food Absolutely amazing. We didn't eat better food in Playa Blanca. We having a lovely time here. Kids having fun
Second year visiting and does not dissapoint clean friendly chill, if you want peace this is the place to go , quite shocked off some poor reviews some people clearly hard to please we have never had any issues, far from local amenities as in the strip /marina however 5 minutes in a taxi and there is onsite bar restaurant and a little shop we knew this when we booked its what we like no scrambling at 5 am for a lounger so can relax walk down pool most times and easy get 4 loungers
What a fantastic place this really is if you want a peaceful relaxing holiday. It is the first time we have self catered in Lanzarote but we will certainly be returning to here. Playa Blanca is such a nice place and we enjoyed it even more this time as Palmeras is away from the busier areas. The apartment was better than we thought it was going to be and had a fantastic sea view. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the whole complex is not built up. The pool area is lovely and sunbeds are always available no matter what time you go down to it. The staff are all really friendly including the cleaners. There is a small shop on the site which is open 11-6 for any essential items. This shop is handy as it is the only supermarket in the vicinity which you have to bear in mind when staying here. The arena bar is fantastic and the food served here is very good indeed. The beach is a 2 minute walk away and there are a few restaurants over the road as well as a brilliant cocktail bar if you want to eat or drink out. There is a bus stop behind the complex if you do not fancy the scenic walk into Playa Blanca centre which runs roughly every half an hour. A taxi back from here will only cost up to 4 euro which worked out cheaper for a family of four. We will definitely return to Palmeras Garden as we all loved it. I couldn’t really fault anything and we all had a fabulous time.
Was there for ten nights. First time on the island. Lovely little complex. Was clean and tidy. Beds where good. Only down side as being a self catering complex there is nothing around to get breakfast early. Bar and little shop does not open till 11 am. So if you want to go out for an early breakfast. Have to walk about 25 minutes to 30 to the bars along the seafront. They open about 9 - 10 ish. Otherwise we had a nice stay.
