Mynd Yaiza

Very disappointed in this hotel. Called and requested ground floor rooms (had booked 2) and a kettle and iron. When arrived none of these these in place. Rooms at opposite ends of hotel both on 2nd floor. View of a derelict piece of land 😒. Having stayed in hotel next door previously this does not compare.

This was our 4th visit in 2 years. Previously just myself and my husband had stayed here but this time we recommended it to our daughter and her husband and children. They went a week before us and LOVED it! We joined them for the 2nd week. It was obviously a very different experience for us this time but a fantastic one. The family loved it too. Rooms are spacious and clean. The restaurant has something for everyone. Freshly cooked and also kept immaculately clean. As are pools and outdoor areas. As we had a 5 year old with us we did get involved in kids entertainment which was brilliant for the younger kids. Have to give a special shout out to Denny. She has so much energy and patience with the kids and gave them all attention (also the rest of her team 🙌🏼) We will definitely be back! Love the hotel, location and the €30 per person per day credit on the half board basis. It works well.

Overall, MYND Yazai is a 4* hotel and we’ve had a positive experience. If we came back to Lanzarote, we’d consider staying here again. The hotel is very clean, the credit system for half-board works very well, the food is great, the relax pool area was mostly very quiet & calm, the pools are lovely, the staff were pleasant & helpful and the room was comfortable & functional. We were grateful to have a double bed and a large TV. The entertainment is reasonable and the spa facilities good. Please see point 2 for biggest negative of the hotel.

There are some areas of development the hotel could consider improving, and I would say MYND Yazai is a lower end 4* hotel.

1. My partner is coeliac, and I emailed the hotel in advance to pre-warn them and ask about how they cater for coeliac’s. At breakfast, they provide some options in a separate area, which is a reasonable offer. However, the food in the buffet is not labelled at all. Since seeing this at breakfast, we booked ourselves into the restaurant every night as the menu was clear about what had gluten and did not. Yet, on the first evening, my partner was served the wrong dish and ate gluten. Similarly, some of the dishes were labelled incorrectly on the menu and some staff did not appear to want to check & explain what element of each dish had gluten. The lady in the buffet who is usually there at lunch time is AMAZING and I’d wish we’d found her sooner. Any questions about gluten free options and she knows it all.
2. The check-out system is poor. They did not tell us when we could book a courtesy room so we went 48 hours before check out and there was only 1 room left. All parties are only allowed 30 minutes, at a cost of €10 per person. Extending your room from 12-3pm is €30 so is probably worth it if you are leaving before 6pm. However, this was not available to us. Not only is this a ridiculously short amount of time, but the price is unacceptable. To be advised to use the spa facilities at €33 each was also unrealistic. (The spa is also a separate company to the hotel & not freely available. It is quite expensive).

You ALSO have to use ALL your credits before 12 pm on the day of checkout, even if you’re around for lunch & dinner. Don’t bother complaining to the manager, she’s rude & dismissive. We had saved €75 for lunch and drinks on the final day and was told we can’t use them. GET AN INFORMATION BOOKLET IN THE ROOMS and stop relying on staff to verbally explain everything in a second language. It’s so much information and I don’t blame them for not being able to remember it all. 3) There are clearly stated rules about using the relax zone, but they are not implemented. There are no lifeguards! And the tiles are slippy. This is unsafe and there should be a lifeguard at both pools at all times. A lot of children going into the relax area with inflatables and balls, shouting and screaming, which is not addressed. The accessible area for disabled people was often blocked and I could see they struggled to get in and out of the pool with children being unaware and in the way. Towels won’t be removed after 1 hour despite their statement. However, not usually a shortage of beds, which meant a lovely relaxed start of the day. 4) There is only 1 bar open in the evening and a queue of 15 people takes 30-40 minutes (due to having to put the details into the machine). 2 bars at least need to open during the evening and you need more than one electronic machine to do the credit payment. Also, having to constantly state your room number aloud both when getting food & drinks is not safe, and I think this needs re-thinking. 5) There were some unexpected costs on arrival. Such as €10 euros (cash) per towel and a €1 each to change them. It’s a deposit so keep the paper secure for the duration of the stay. (We ended up using these pool towels as shower towels as the room ones are tiny!) 6) The showers leak in the room and cover the floor with towels & dry them outside. The frosted glass doesn’t work and people can see you on the toilet and showering.
