This comfortable hotel is set in Alvor. The premises count with 46 welcoming units. A refuge in the Algarve where the hustle and worries of everyday life are left behind. It is not by chance that we chose the pelican to name the hotel. This animal symbolizes the strength of family bonds between parents and children.

Additional features at this hotel include complimentary wireless Internet access, a television in a common area and tour/ticket assistance. Guests can catch a ride to nearby destinations on the local area shuttle (surcharge).
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Self catering apartment for two that was exceptional , coldest air con I’ve experienced in 35 years travelling . Set up the hill from resort in a quiet area , perfect for a relaxing holiday . Lovely pool and grounds , absolutely loved it . Hotel does light lunches but no proper meals but plenty of options close bye including a very good supermarket .
We stayed at the pelican Alvor for 10 days from Aug 14-24th. We ar a family with young kids and a baby. This hotel is in a good location theres a short walk down to the restaurants and bars. The rooms are not the cleanest and can do with a lot of maintenance. The walls were dirty and in need of a touch of paint. The bath tub was unusable with black mould in the jets in the tub. It was shocking and clear they never had a good clean. The pull out bed was extremely uncomfortable you could Feel every spring in the mattress that was also not the cleanest to say the least. They seriously need to upgrade these beds as they are unfit for anyone to sleep on. The worst part we saw 2 rats at the swimming pool area right at the baby’s pool where the sun loungers are. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The decking is all broken and the rats both ran inside. Our kids Had been playing in the grass all week so this is as great worry for us. I approached the director of the hotel about this and his simple answer was ‘we are in nature’ he showed no care and only apologised because I pointed out that he hadn’t instead he got defensive with me. I left my details (room number) thinking he would get in touch about it after some thought and maybe show some care about it. Nothing. This is a total disgrace. And I know nature is around us but I’ve never witnessed a rat on the grounds of any hotel I’ve stayed in in my life. It’s not normal and it’s not acceptable. They have a lot of rubbish around the grounds. Also the pool light was broken in the baby pool and floating on top of the water. There was a lot of broken parts to the pool and the tiles below ar all broken away. This hotel needs serious maintenance and cleaning upgrades.
First visit to Alvor, decided to stay at the Pelican. Great location if you don't mind a small walk down the hill into the town, couple of bars on the way. Supermarket 5 mins away. Rooms nice and very spacious. Friendly staff, really clean. A couple of improvements could be new parasols supplied by the pool, the ones there are getting a bit tired, some getting blown away when the breeze picked up a little. The plastic drainage edging by the pool could also maybe do with a bit of a check to ensure it is strong enough. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would recommend it 100%.
The apartments are located in a quiet area in beautiful gardens. It takes about 15mins to walk into the main area for shops, bars and restaurants. Mostly we found our stay comfortable and had a great holiday in Alvor. The downside for us, there were a couple of things. Cleanliness of the room - it was not up to scratch. The cleaners often only turned up after 4pm if at all. The TV and cabinet was caked in dust, the bathroom was a bit grimy as evidently areas had not been kept on top of. Also the 2 hobs didnt work properly as they would keep turning off so it was difficult trying to cook anything from the kitchenette. On the balcony was anornamental plant. We found a lovely greeting from another guest - see photos. It did make us laugh, however shows again the lack of attention from cleaning staff. All in all it was a good stay and I would return but that attention to detail would have made it a lot better. Cleaning staff need to do better. Would recommend for couples. Not much to do there for children other than swimming pool.
We booked a pool view room and was on second floor, typical public areas nice ,rooms shabby. Our room was a studio ( 2 old rooms knocked into one) they even left a false door in! The room was spacious but shabby, had a fully equipsd kitcgen but lots of knocks and skirting boards dirty, towel rails loose, mold in bathroom so didn't use the bath, cleaners very poor, didnt sweep, supposed to clean daily but forgot loo roll twice ( had to go to reception for it as cleaners had gone home and she was the only person in the hotel ......embarrassing) but the worst was when a large piece of wood fell on my head after opening the cupboard. I reported to reception, the male receptionist didn't seem bothered ( no sorry) and said after my request to fix immediately " I'll see what I can do". I phoned jet2 to complain as there is no rep in this hotel, it worked as Manuel came, sorry " Bodgit and scarper" came, what a job he did. I feel sorry for the next people in this room as the wardrobe/ cupboard is about to collapse. The gardens are nice, pool clean but as you'll see there's lots of nature around there has been rats reported in the kids pool area on other feedbacks if you look, Alvor is beautiful, restaurants are amazing ( most) and the boardwalk area stunning, I'd give this one a miss and find a better hotel. As a frequent traveller I'm aware of standards, I'd rate this 2 star for rooms. 4 star for public areas. I've added pics of the poor room but also Alvor, don't be put off in coming to Alvor, it's our second visit after staying in the Pestano chain, wish we'd gone there.
Go to the Pheonix, British family cooking good food and good prices, avoid (4Rais) and ( pull the bear) small portions and high prices , the leinster pub was accommodating, jolly bar cheap and cheerful, Russ Abbot , sorry I mean Dave will entertain you.
