- Alvor Baia Resort Hotel

Situated near the village of Alvor's historic centre, beaches and golf courses, the commercial area, and the Portimão marina, this hotel is in a prime location. All the amenities, combined with a draft design; this hotel was created to provide guests with a perfect, unforgettable holiday. It includes a full range of services, including the magnificent 100 m pool, 2 padle courts, children's playground (Pirate Ship), several restaurants, bars, meeting rooms, multipurpose room, a Spa with a heated swimming pool, Turkish bath, sauna, and massage. It also includes indoor and outdoor parking.
The staff is not vert friendly. You can hardly see them smiling. Food is mediocre. The staff does not just look like they don’t want to be there, they also are not very helpful. My kid got sick and they did not allow me to take food to the room even though there is a dining table, plates and cutlery in the room alon with microwave and fridge. So I had to order from outside and give it to my kid in the room! This is the worst holiday I have ever had so far. Not recommended at all!
So this is the second time to this hotel, the first time a few years ago out of school holidays. The hotel itself is lovely, rooms spacious and clean could not fault them. The food is ok, first week seemed to be better than second. Most days I found something I enjoyed, however eating is not the greatest experience. We ate in the green room which was like an over crowded school canteen. Whilst most of the staff were great, the restaurant staff were not exactly friendly, not surprised though with that noise.
Our first week there was better than the second, more to do with the clientele. Whilst the first week seemed busy, this was nothing in comparison to the second week. Queues for the bar got worse and seemed as if some people had got on the wrong flight as they would have been more suited in Benidorm.
It is however great for families as fantastic pool and plenty of kids around. You could get sunbeds until about 10am.
Overall it is a lovely hotel, however you spend most of the time queuing for drinks and your food. The blue restaurant could be a completely different experience, who knows?
Just back from 1 week and we were very impressed with this hotel. Some reviews I had read, now that we have been and experienced it seem quite unfair. The staff were all very pleasant, very hard working and very efficient. Yes, sometimes you may have had to wait 5 minutes to get a drink, but you do the same back home in any busy bar so whats the difference. The hotel was very busy, but the pool area is massive so it never felt overwhelming, alot of sunbeds so no issue getting one. Food for an all-inclusive i have to say was very good, people talk about it being the same but there was definitely plenty to choose from, and they also have a bbq night. Again, restaurant was always very busy but well run, staff were excellent and worked very hard. Rooms were great, new clean towels most days and hotel itself was spotless. Day time and night time entertainment was good, again people can expect too much but we have been to a few all inclusive hotels in Albuferia before and the entertainment was awful, so I thought yhe team did a great job day and night. Only 1 cristism is they could do with more seating areas for the evening/night time because it does cater for a large amount of people, but thats it, we are talking about going back next year again as we were really impressed, an uber jnto Alvor town is worth a visit too, some lovely bars and restaurants. Would highly recommend this hotel 😊
Hotel was very good. Clean, food good and great choice. Popl brilliant. What let them down was the very poor entertainment for children and teenagers. Also they only allowed kids to have ice cream between 4pm-5.30pm each day which seems a little odd plus there was always queues. Kids want ice cream on holiday as an when they want it not at an allotted time. The hotel needs a good head of entertainment to organise activities for ALL ages then it would be 5stars all the way. Hopefully the management will read their reviews and act on it.
Lovely big, very family oriented hotel. Do not book it if you're looking for peace and quiet!
Didn't get off to the best of starts as a very simple request regarding the set up of our 3 rooms had been ignored and the receptionist checking us in was abrupt about it to say the least.
We stayed as a group of 9. 7 adults and two children ranging from age 8 to 80+. Rooms were clean, well maintained and well equipped with huge balconies.
The hotel is a little isolated from Alvor itself. I didn't mind the mile or so walk but it won't be for everyone. Ubers are readily available for around 5Euro.
The pool is enormous, which means plenty of space even during activity times however the size means it also stays quite cold. There's also no shallow area as such in the main pool except for the ramps in and out at either end. There's a bit of a bizarre situation with sunbeds. In the morning (usually 7.30 in our experience) reception staff walk the poolside and place stickers on beds with any unattended towels. These then get bagged and left with the lifeguards if there's been nobody there for an hour. If there was a shortage of beds fair enough but there really isn't so it just leads to the slightly odd sight of one or two members of families sitting at poolside protecting their towels whilst their loved ones enjoy their breakfast!
The entertainment staff work hard and do a decent job during the day with activities and pool games. More variety of activities would be nice. In the evening however what was offered was poor. Basically just the same disco time for the kids each evening to start things off followed by in house offerings which all felt a bit like the kids disco before it, some rubbish karaoke or an aerobics session dressed up as dance lessons.
Food was typical All Inclusive. Nice enough quality but very much the same every day. Don't expect anything more interesting in the adults only side. Drinks the same. Nice staff at all bars but expect to wait at least 5 minutes during the day at the pool bar and much longer in the evening.
All in all, a nice place for a family all inclusive get away but would I rush back? No.
