Worst hotel I have ever stayed in from the minute we arrived there was issues. When arrived and shown to our rooms they looked absolutely nothing like the photos and the aircon was terrible, beds were like laying on a brick and the smell of damp was so bad and balcony doors not even locking,The list goes on.Was then told we would be moved the next day after many complaints that night. Then told be told the next morning we could not be moved due to fully booked(lied to again by the staff)After countless arguments with staff we then got moved to another room, which had no electricity or aircon and the previous couple had asked to be moved due to this. The manager on the day shift was the rudest man ever and behaved as if we were lying the whole time.It ruined our holiday from the beginning and I would never ever come back here.
I travelled to Malta with a friend, booking only 2 days before departure so we weren’t able to be fussy. We liked the idea of Malta and Qawra Palace seemed to offer everything we wanted for a 5 night break. We arrived late evening so very little available, except a toasty in the bar to the right. No one offered to take our bags up, so we dragged them up 4 flights of stairs because no lifts worked at the time (a continual intermittent issue during our stay). First impression of our room was underwhelming. It was clean, had fairly recently been painted but still pretty shabby. And then we went on to the balcony. Four enclosed sides of floor to sky balconies, all staring at each other. I’d honestly say you get better at Butlins. If we’d known what to expect, fine. But no photos online showed how claustrophobic they would be. This is where the holiday improves- the next morning we enjoyed a nice selection at breakfast. Granted it’s the same each day but plenty of choice and all fresh. Some parts of the hotel are very nice (main entrance, restaurants, some bathrooms, entertainment room downstairs), other parts are just very tired (family pool and surrounding areas, corridors, lifts!). We spent most of our time at the rooftop pool (adults only) which I can’t fault. It is a classic case of fighting for a sun lounger, but they do become free during the day. Lunch and dinner- a good variety with a rotation of meals to choose from. Don’t waste time with the ‘specialty restaurants’. It’s just more buffet food. Take the free one but absolutely don’t pay for any extra. Entertainment was good but some shows only lasted 30 minutes. They do play music after but it’s such a beautiful space and enthustic staff, it’s a shame it didn’t last longer. The hotel is in a largely residential area, so 11pm onwards, there’s very little to do unless you taxi to a big nightclub out of town (not our thing). Overall, I grew to like Qawra Palace, despite its flaws. If you know what to expect, you’ll have a nice time. If you’ve booked a standard room without seeing what they are actually like, you’ll be disappointed.
