Qawra

Qawra sits on the northeast coast of Malta, where the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean tempt holiday makers to enjoy the sea as they bask in the glorious sunshine.

Whilst the town itself bustles with bars and shops, there are many spots to find seclusion and peace around the coast. The waters are also (of course!) perfect for all of the water sports and diving you could imagine.

When to go

Sitting in the warm Mediterranean, Qawra enjoys a glorious long summer with 12 hours of sunshine and temperatures nearing 30C in July and August. If you prefer warm weather to outright heat, make a visit in May, June, September or October instead, where temperatures linger between 20°-22°C.

Top Attractions

If swimming and sunbathing aren't for you, head to the National Aquarium where you'll be greeted with a seemingly endless array of marine wildlife.

Beaches

Ta Fra Ben beach is popular with swimmers and beach furniture can be hired despite the rocky terrain. Point Beach is also quite rocky, but boasts a natural lido-style swimming area, making it a great spot for families with children as there are lifeguards on duty.

Dining

Fine local fish dishes and Mediterranean specialties can be found in the cafés and restaurants of Qawra and neighbouring Bugibba. Most restaurants have outdoor dining options and many offer vegetarian and vegan options. Enjoy fresh seafood at Ocean Basket, Moroccan cuisine at Tagine or something sweet at Eatna.

Entertainment

There are many bars in Qawra that offer a friendly, Maltese welcome. You'll find everything from quiet, local back street gems to bigger, traditional English pub style bars. If you'd rather stay out late, you can take a short bus ride (including night buses) to neighbouring towns.

Culture

A short trip to Valletta will bring you to the exquisite 17th century St John?s Co-Cathedral with its Baroque art grandeur. If history is what you seek, then the area around Qawra will not disappoint.

Adventure and Sports

The whole of the coastline here is famous for the quality of its scuba diving. As you might expect, there are lots of schools and boat operators waiting to get everybody into the crystal clear waters. Beginners are welcome, so why not explore all the colourful marine life on show?

It's not just diving, though, why note take a cruise on a fun boat. These are equipped with water slides that will drop you straight into the sea! For a more active adventure, you could also try water skiing, parasailing or sailing.

Getting around

The excellent local bus service here connects you to other towns within the area, and even further afield on the island of Malta. A transfer to the airport by public transport is only 45 minutes. If you fancy renting a car, these are also available for hire.
