Gozo is much smaller than the Maltese mainland and has retained a charming sense of timelessness all its own. The Grand Hotel is located right in the harbour, a perfect place for an evening stroll to take in the sights, colours and sounds of seaside life as the sun goes down.
The Grand Hotel really does live up to its name. From the outside, the façade is impressive and the pool affords a lovely view across the water as you swim. Inside, the hotel is of a high standard with well furnished rooms and tasteful décor. All rooms are en suite, some rooms feature a walk-in shower, but most offer a bathtub. All rooms have air conditioning and heating to ensure your comfort, whatever time of year you choose to visit. Rooms are also equipped with satellite TV, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities, Wi-Fi, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. If you really want to make the most of this wonderful location, seaview and superior rooms are available at a supplement – just ask when you book.
The views are also fantastic from the restaurant and bar which you'll find on the rooftop of the hotel. Just imagine yourself enjoying an aperitif, whilst gazing out across the harbour and looking forward to a delicious evening meal. This is what holidays at the Grand Hotel are all about. Certainly one of the best Gozitan views of Mgarr Harbour, Comino & Malta in the background ! The azure blue sea & sunrise are the most amazing views to watch..!!! The suite is enormous , beds comfy and quiet environment. However many things were lacking & not of a 4 star hotel . We were 3 in the room & always found towels & toiletries missing every single day of our 5-day, 4-night visit. Toilet paper included. We also found holes in the bed linen & torn, ruffled edges on the sides. We had to ask for towels & toilet paper every night. In the bathroom there is NOT 1 single wall hook anywhere to hand anything. Very inconvenient. The minute bin does not open well & gets filled up in a minute.But the most headache-inducing sound is a terrible noise after every use of washand basins. The drain system disrupts anyone trying to sleep . Another annoying sight were the restrooms both downstairs & on level one. They were simply disgusting with the mess they were in. Not sure how ofter these are cleaned but it should be often. The garage too unfortunately was a disaster..I nearly slipped twice on a floor with slime & water. Unfortunately, after having been loyal clients for the past few decades, the standard has dropped. The hotel is expanding rapidly with the new wing. Don't let quantity over quality to run the show. This Hotel used to be one of the best on the Island. Fingers crossed it will get back on its feet again. Good luck.....
Excellent location overlooking Mgaar harbour. Easy to access public transport to travel across the island and beyond. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the cleaner was polite and accommodating. Our room was lovely, everything worked as it should. The bed was so comfortable, we wished we could take it home with us.
We had a lovely view from the balcony across the harbour and it was nice to watch the ferries coming in and out. The food was well cooked although if on a half board basis, it is a little repetitive. The restaurant staff were polite, attentive and very efficient. Particular thanks goes to the waitress with an American accent who was extra helpful when asked. It is a calm and quiet hotel with a lovely atmosphere and you get a lot for your money.
We had the most amazing stay at The Grand! Our room was just fabulous and very spacious with everything you need..the bed was super comfy with a great bath/ shower also. The staff are warm & welcoming and go out of their way to accommodate. The food was lovely also and the level 9 view restaurant was just stunning! Added to all the above….The pool and view..just wow!! Overall highly recommended and we will definitely be back! Thanks so much
IMO the hotel is not a 4* property. The reason for staying there would be the view, and the excellent infinity pool. The bedroom we had was large compared to most, it had all the amenities you would expect but it lacked electrical points where you would expect to find them.
The standard of housekeeping was poor, the bedroom was carpeted but never hoovered, although ironically there was one left in the corridor. There was mould around the shower and the cleaner didn’t understand that there should be 4 towels in the bathroom. Dirty dishes from room service were left in the corridor and not removed for over 24 hours.
We set up credit so that we could charge things to our room, however, there seemed to be no uniform way of applying the system. One staff member in the breakfast room was quite rude, he ignored us when we said we had credit and asked loudly if we were paying by cash or card. Apart from the reception staff, I didn’t find the staff to be particularly friendly.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choices. If you are looking for a light meal, the Caesar salad ordered from the bar food menu was extremely good. There were a lot of areas which were quite scruffy. There seemed to be several people that were repeat guests, but we wouldn’t return to the property.
Excellant location with stunning views of the port of Mgarr. Sumptuous breakfast and nice variety of items. Well equipped and tidy rooms. Fabulous staff. Will visit again.
