Roda Beach Resort and Spa

We had such a lovely stay at Roda Beach Resort! The rooms were clean, the food was really good, and we spent so much time by the pool. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and made us feel welcome.

A special thank you to the animation team, especially Stan. He was always smiling, full of energy, and made our holiday even more enjoyable.

The first thing you need to know is that this is most definitely not a 5 star resort. It’s very tired and scruffy in places, especially the grounds and main pool area. Lots of broken equipment, overgrown grass, shoddy sun loungers, broken tiles/paving etc and the pool is in desperate need of renovation (it’s also salt water). That being said our room was cool with good shutters and cleaned efficiently every day.

The food is edible and plentiful but nothing special. Kids loved the crepery and gyro stations but the main buffet was repetitive, unimaginative and chaotically busy. They regularly ran out of things so don’t go towards end of service. They also need to fix the fans in the buffet outside seating area as many of them not working and it’s so hot you need them.

You can eat at one of the beachfront restaurants each day and the view is lovely there but the food is limited to meat, chips, pizza and salad.

Wine is literally ‘on tap’ and pretty undrinkable. Cocktails were hit and miss… ones at reception bar were great but the ones served at beachfront bar were very unpleasant. If you want a ‘premium’ cocktail eg a negroni you need to pay an extra 7 euros.

Overall staff were very good and Alexandra in the buffet area deserves special mention as particularly kind and helpful. My son also loved the lady at the beach crepery who was very friendly and sweet with him.

We were excited to try the brand new water park that opened only a few days ago but mixed experience here. Only 3/5 slides working and on second visit the steps out of pool had broken so had to heave yourself and kids out. The staff were super friendly but need to focus more on safety… e.g. they let a much larger child enter the slide too soon after my younger son which resulted in a near collision as second child overtook my soon at speed part way down the slide. If they don’t get on top of this it’s an accident waiting to happen.

Overall we had a lovely week and lots of fun but there is plenty of room for improvement.

Lovely hotel, nice and clean everything you need close by. Only q few small issues we noticed: Food was a bit salty in the main restaurant from the main dishes. There are 3 onsite restaurants on the beach greek Italian and I think Asian. As an AI guest you can only book 1 restaurant per stay, we had the Italian, not great the bruschetta was bread with a bit of melted cheese on top and very very tiny amount of tomatoes (misses the point of a bruschetta) tiramasu for dessert was just a bit of dry coffee cake with a butter cream/icing. We booked the swim up rooms, only one set of ladders to get in and out not from room to room(personal preference i know) also rooms that didnt pay for the swim up but were around them were being used as well as the loungers which makes me sound snobby but we paid extra and they didnt, didnt really seem fair. We also had a crack on our floor at the swim up which was dealt with quickly so fair play to them for that. Our safe battery wasnt working and had to wait in the room for 3 hours for someone to come out. Not a lot of drinks on the AI options. On site shop is expensive & the pokemon cards had been gone through by either staff or other guests as they were opened and had some missing (it wasnt full and the flaps were open) They do absolutely favour the French we were looking forward to the tropical party seen them get everything out and ready for it before we got showered and changed. But because the French football team were playing it didnt go ahead 🙄 everything had been taken down when we got there are the start time. Also, and this may be a bit minor but also annoying, there were not a lot of outdoor seating on the evening and because its such a big resort people were sat on the day beds around the pool. We sat inside watching the England match around the main reception and the fabric chairs smelt strongly of vomit.

Overall we did enjoy it as we like relaxing peace and quiet which you can either have or you can have the loud busy fun part of it with young kids, we were with a 13 year old who just wanted to chill so we were ok. The items above were just either minor or just personal preferences but should have consideration to be addressed. Especially the 1 restaurant per stay. Would of been nice to try the others Especially with the beautiful location.
