A Lovely Hotel with Room to Iron Out the Details — ★★★☆☆

We stayed as a family in April this year, and overall it was a good stay — though not quite a 5-star experience.

Check-In & Rooms Check-in was smooth and our room was ready on arrival, which we really appreciated travelling with kids. The room itself was fine, though being on the river side it was a touch noisier than we'd have liked.

Package Confusion We'd booked a package deal, and there was frequent confusion among staff about what was actually included. Junior staff often had to check with senior colleagues before answering simple questions, which — while not anyone's fault individually — left us feeling like an inconvenience rather than a valued guest.

Front Desk The front desk team were polite throughout, but service felt like it stopped at "adequate" — they carried out the basics without ever going above and beyond.

A Letdown for the Kids At check-in we were told the movie theatre was free to use with advance booking, which our kids were excited about. When it came time to use it, we were told there was a charge, with no real clarity on what that charge actually was. It was a genuine disappointment for the children and felt like a mismatch between what was promised and what was delivered.

Spa The treatments themselves were good, but the delivery let it down — language barriers aside, the manner ("sit there," "wait there") came across as brusque rather than warm, giving the experience a slightly factory-line feel rather than the relaxed spa atmosphere you'd hope for.

The Bright Spots The grounds were genuinely lovely, and the pool staff were a standout — consistently kind and attentive. Gym facilities were also good. Bikes were available, though having to sign paperwork each time we borrowed one was a minor hassle. Kids club, unfortunately, was non-existent in any real sense.

Looking Ahead We enjoyed our stay enough to look into returning next year, but the pricing structure gave us pause — full payment upfront, with around a 30% premium if you want flexibility on dates. As returning guests, this felt steep and honestly a little off-putting. If a hotel wants to encourage loyalty, that's exactly the kind of guest who should be looked after in the booking process, not penalised for wanting flexibility. It is saddening that rebooking a hotel when have stayed (and wanting to book for a extensive stay) seems a challenge and difficult.

Overall A genuinely lovely hotel let down by inconsistencies in service and communication. With some attention to staff training and guest-facing clarity — particularly around inclusions and promises made at check-in — this could easily be a 5-star property. We'd likely stay again, but we'll go in with clearer expectations next time.

My Go-To Oasis in Vietnam

Victoria Hoi An has become my sanctuary in the heart of Vietnam. I’ve stayed here multiple times over the years, and with every visit I fall in love with this beautiful property all over again.

Nestled along the beach, the resort offers everything you could ask for—and so much more. The open-air main building is stunning, welcoming, and effortlessly elegant. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted with a cool, refreshing towel, a welcome drink, and the genuine warmth and hospitality that the Vietnamese people are so beautifully known for.

I’ve stayed in several different accommodations, from the beachfront bungalows to rooms with private balconies, and every one has been wonderfully comfortable. The beds are soft, the air conditioning keeps the rooms perfectly cool, and the ceiling fans are a welcome treat after a day of shopping or exploring Hoi An. The minibar, television, and beautifully appointed bathrooms make each stay feel relaxing and effortless.

The grounds are absolutely spectacular. Lush tropical gardens, koi ponds, towering shade trees, and winding pathways create a peaceful atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and simply enjoy the surroundings. My favorite place on the property, however, is the swimming pool. As an avid swimmer, I’ve completed thousands of laps in the beautiful dark-tiled pool with its cool, refreshing water. The poolside bar serves delicious Vietnamese specialties, attentive service, and—most importantly after a swim—a perfectly cold beer.

Over the years, the beach has been restored along the property’s shoreline, making it an even more beautiful place to walk, run, or simply relax with your feet in the sand alongside local Vietnamese families. Early mornings here are especially magical and perfectly capture the spirit of wellness and tranquility.

Breakfast each morning is nothing short of extraordinary. The buffet is a feast featuring Vietnamese, French, and American favorites. Most mornings I found myself enjoying what felt like a six-course breakfast, accompanied by several cups of outstanding Vietnamese coffee. I always left the table completely satisfied—and perhaps just a little over-caffeinated!

What truly makes Victoria Hoi An exceptional, however, is its people. After several visits, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know many members of the staff, and they have become one of the biggest reasons I keep returning.

My heartfelt gratitude goes to Suong, Yoeng Ju, Quynh, Y, TrinW, and especially my guest experience host, Truc. Every member of the team consistently goes above and beyond to make my stay memorable. Whether helping me after I’d misplaced my room key (more than once!), recommending wonderful restaurants and attractions, or simply sharing a warm smile and friendly conversation, they always made me feel genuinely welcome.

Victoria Hoi An is equally perfect for a weekend escape or an extended stay. It remains one of my favorite hotels anywhere in the world, and I recommend it without hesitation. If you’re looking for authentic hospitality, beautiful surroundings, and an unforgettable experience, you simply can’t go wrong.
