Renaissance Hoi An Resort and Spa

The Renaissance Hoi An Resort & Spa is a lovely place to unwind. The property is beautiful, lush, and full of greenery, giving it a peaceful atmosphere from the moment you arrive. We stayed for five nights as a family of five in one of the beachfront villas. The resort is located on Cua Dai Beach, about 20–25 minutes from Hoi An Ancient Town (around 150–200k VND by Grab), while Da Nang Airport is roughly an hour away. One important thing to know before booking is that the beach is currently closed due to coastal erosion works, which I'll come back to later.

🏡 Villa – ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) The villa is fantastic for families. Huge bedrooms, large bathrooms, a proper living room, kitchen, dining area and, of course, your own private pool. There is plenty of room for everyone to spread out, and it never felt cramped. The views towards the ocean and nearby island are beautiful—unless an excavator decides to park itself in front of your villa because of the beach renovation. The private pool is a great size, although some villas appear to have a little more privacy than others. The reason the villa doesn't get five stars is maintenance. It's starting to show its age with worn furniture, ripped cushions by the pool and general wear and tear throughout. None of it ruins the stay, but when you're paying villa prices, these are the details you notice. Also, there were four TVs in the villa... but only one had Netflix. We'd planned a family movie night in the living room, but apparently the TV had other plans.

🌊 Beach – ⭐⭐☆☆☆ (2/5) Unfortunately, there isn't really a beach at the moment. The entire coastline is being rebuilt due to erosion, so instead of sand and palm trees you'll mostly be looking at cranes, excavators and dump trucks. The work runs during the day until late afternoon, and while the noise isn't unbearable, it definitely changes the atmosphere. The hotel offers transport to another beach at the Wyndham Royal about 15 minutes away. Nice idea, but the experience couldn't have been more different. The beach was noticeably dirtier with cigarette butts and litter in the sand, and the atmosphere felt much more like a budget package holiday than a luxury resort, think Jet2 holiday vibe. We went once and agreed it wasn't worth going back. If you're booking primarily for a beach holiday, I'd honestly wait until the work is finished.

🧹 Cleanliness – ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) This was probably my biggest disappointment. At first glance everything looked spotless, but once we settled in we started finding packed food left behind by previous guests, crumbs on the carpet, hair on the sofa and dusty air-conditioning vents. As someone with allergies, that wasn't ideal. To the hotel's credit, they responded quickly and arranged a deep clean after we complained. Interestingly, while checking out I overheard another guest reporting exactly the same issues, so unfortunately it doesn't seem like we were the only ones. It feels more like a management issue than a housekeeping problem.

🏊 Amenities – ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) The resort itself is beautiful. The gardens are exceptionally well maintained, and there's always someone trimming, planting or keeping the grounds looking pristine. The gym is excellent with a good mix of cardio machines, free weights and strength equipment—definitely gym-bro approved. The main pool is huge with plenty of cabanas, although we mostly stayed in our villa pool. There are also two tennis courts that are perfectly fine for a casual game, a large kids' club with lots of activities, and a games room with table tennis and pool. I would have liked to see a few more options aimed at teenagers, but overall it's a great setup for families.

🍳 Breakfast – ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ (4.5/5) Breakfast was one of the highlights. There was a huge variety of Western, Vietnamese, Korean and Indian dishes, along with fresh egg stations and plenty of halal and vegetarian options, which was a really nice touch. Our kids looked forward to breakfast every morning. My only minor complaints were the coffee, which could have been stronger and better. The fruit juices, which seemed a little watered down, however having stayed at several hotels across Vietnam, I'm starting to think that's just part of the experience.

✅ Overall – ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5) Despite its flaws, I genuinely enjoyed our stay at Renaissance Hoi An Resort & Spa. Yes, the beach renovation is unfortunate, the villas could use some maintenance, and the housekeeping needs better quality control. But the resort has something that's difficult to describe—it just has a great atmosphere. The villas are wonderful for families, the grounds are beautiful, the staff are friendly, and everyone in my family loved being there. Would I stay again? Actually, yes. Once the beach is finished and a little more attention is paid to the smaller details, I think this could easily become one of the best family resorts in the area. Until then, it's a very solid 4 out of 5 stars.
