Becareful when booking with agoda

Warning to future guests: I believed I was booking a Wyndham Danang Golden Bay hotel room because the Agoda listing used the hotel’s name, photos, room type (“Deluxe King”), breakfast, and hotel amenities. After checking in, I discovered that my reservation was actually for a privately owned apartment in the same building, not a room operated by Wyndham. The apartment was on the 9th floor, and I was not given independent access. Every time I returned, I had to ask hotel security to let me upstairs. This was a major inconvenience that was never expected from a hotel stay. Had the listing clearly stated that this was a private apartment with restricted access, I would never have booked it. I hope Agoda makes these listings much clearer so future guests know exactly what they are paying for.

An Unforgettable Stay in the Kingdom of Midas

Beautiful hotel with luxurious décor and excellent service. The staff were very attentive, especially Mint, the Concierge Supervisor, who helped us arrange a birthday cake and flowers at the last minute and made the celebration truly special. Don't miss the rooftop pool with its stunning panoramic views. Highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again!

Great Breakfast, Poor Service Attitude and Cleanliness

I was visiting with my mom, and the hotel’s location is quite good. However, it may not be ideal if you are looking to stay right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the Vietnamese nightlife. The hotel itself looks good, but when staying at a property of this standard, there are certain expectations that come with it. Most of the staff did not speak English. This could be common in Vietnam, but guest-facing colleagues of an international hotel brand should at least be able to understand and communicate in basic English. Our first day at the hotel was honestly terrible. We were initially given a room with a very unpleasant view. Although there was a partial view of the bridge, what was directly in front of us was a rather slum-like apartment building. The hotel also appears to have long-stay guests, and some of the balconies facing the hotel looked extremely unkempt. Again, this is not something I would expect from a property of this standard. The cleanliness aspect in the public areas and corridors also needs much more attention. You would consistently see dust and waste around the lift landing areas, and the dustbins appeared to be overflowing almost every time we passed by. I had also informed the hotel team in advance about my OCD-related cleanliness concerns, yet the room was still far from clean. The bedsheets had stains, the headboard had visible dust that appeared to have accumulated over a long period, and the room telephone looked as though it had not been properly cleaned in years. I had to request a room change, which the team did accommodate. Coming to the attitude of some of the staff, not speaking English is understandable, but it should never be an excuse to be rude or dismissive towards guests. Unfortunately, I also felt there was a noticeable difference in how guests of different nationalities were treated. If you are from Asia, be prepared for an experience that may not feel as welcoming or attentive as you would expect. One particular incident really stood out. After returning from a full day of touring, I had several bags with me and asked the concierge team for assistance. Instead of helping me, the colleague had the audacity to come over and demonstrate how I could carry all the bags myself. It was unbelievable and completely contrary to what hospitality should be about. This was the point where I had to speak up, and I shared my concerns with the Front Office in charge, Kevin. Although the bellman eventually came and apologized, an apology from one individual does not resolve the larger issue of the team’s overall apathy and dismissive attitude. We do not spend our hard-earned money to stay at a five-star hotel only to be made to feel like an inconvenience. As a hotel professional myself, I have a deeper understanding of what genuine hospitality and a service-oriented attitude should look like. Unfortunately, I found this lacking across multiple touchpoints during my stay- from reception and concierge to Viet Kitchen, Sugar Lounge, and even the morning breakfast hosts. At one point, I even wondered if perhaps this was simply how things were in Vietnam. However, that assumption quickly changed when we visited other hotels and restaurants during our trip. The level of hospitality and guest focus elsewhere was noticeably better. Even at Paradise Cafe, the small coffee shop behind the hotel, the girls were incredibly welcoming and attentive. This showed me that genuine hospitality and a strong guest-focused attitude are certainly present in Vietnam; it was simply not consistent with what we experienced at this hotel. For me, this goes beyond one or two isolated incidents. There appears to be a much bigger service culture issue that needs to be addressed. The hotel may have the physical appearance and facilities expected of a high-end property, but hospitality is ultimately about people, attitude, and consistency. A fundamental change in the service culture and overall service DNA would go a long way towards creating the experience guests should reasonably expect. Now, for the positives: the buffet breakfast was amazing. I still dream about the Vietnamese rice cakes and the coffee! In the evening, there is a stretch of small food vans in front of the hotel, which was also a nice option for a quick snack while overlooking the river. Overall, there are definitely things I enjoyed about the stay, particularly the location, breakfast, and some of the surrounding experiences. However, the service attitude and cleanliness issues were significant enough to overshadow many of the positives.

Lovely Accommodations

First and foremost, I would like to thank the staff of the Wyndham Golden Bay in particular Jessi & Vicki. Jessi and Vicki were able to assist me in keeping the same room that I originally checked into. I had two separate reservations to prevent myself from having to check out and then recheck in to a different room. The staff Vikki and Jessi assisted me and keeping the same room. The entire staff that I encountered were very friendly and pleasant to work with even through a language barrier..

The location of the hotel provides a beautiful view of the Han river as it feeds into what I am going to believe is Golden Bay. The atmosphere of the hotel is very welcoming very well appointed with amenities and bright lights.

The location of the hotel provides easy access to the airport however, the drive to and from is an exciting drive with all the motorcycles and scooters weaving in and out of traffic.

My room is fantastic. Not sure I could ask for a better room..

Again, thank you Jessi and Vikki !!
