Underwhelming – More Function Centre Than Resort
After travelling through Vietnam and having fantastic stays at the May De Ville Lakeside in Hanoi and the Royal Hotel in Hoi An, DLG Da Nang was unfortunately a real letdown.
On paper, the hotel ticks plenty of boxes — beachfront location, large rooms, pool, gym and impressive facilities. But for us, it lacked the warmth, atmosphere and hospitality that had made our other stays in Vietnam so enjoyable.
The best way we could describe it was that it felt more like a large function centre or business hotel than a holiday resort. The hotel felt quite cold and detached, despite being directly across from the beach.
During our stay the main restaurant was closed, so we had dinner in the bar/reception area. The food itself was good, but unfortunately arrived cold, and our drinks didn't arrive until we were halfway through dinner.
Communication was also difficult. We certainly don't expect everyone to speak fluent English when travelling in Vietnam, but even fairly basic requests were difficult to communicate. At one point we watched another guest repeatedly calling out “excuse me” trying to get assistance while staff were standing nearby chatting.
The bar selection was also surprisingly limited for a hotel of this size and positioning — even something as common as Baileys wasn't available.
Nothing individually was disastrous, but when you put it all together, the experience simply didn't match the standard or atmosphere we expected, particularly given the price. We actually found the smaller hotels we stayed at elsewhere in Vietnam provided a much warmer, more attentive and enjoyable experience.
The beachfront location is excellent and the hotel certainly has the facilities, but if you're looking for a warm Vietnamese resort experience rather than a large city/function-style hotel, there are probably better options.
For us, unfortunately, DLG continued to underwhelm throughout our stay.
Breakfast was good . But not much for Indian veg people. Need to improve here. Rest was fantastic.
