Good Property, but Service Needs Significant Improvement

The property itself is good, with a nice setting and good overall facilities. The breakfast is excellent, with a very good variety and quality. Unfortunately, some other aspects of the service and dining experience did not match the standards I would expect from a Marriott property.

Room category and ocean view: This was the biggest disappointment. The hotel sells Ocean Facing Suites at a higher price, but the Palm Facing suites are apparently treated as an alternative. The problem is that from the Palm Facing rooms, there is no ocean in sight. These are clearly not equivalent experiences for a guest who has specifically paid a premium for an ocean-facing suite.

When we initially raised the matter with reception, there was no real attempt to resolve it. The issue was simply postponed and we were effectively asked to wait. Eventually, I had to come down personally to the lobby and speak to management. Once we reached management, they were much more helpful and changed our room. I appreciate the management team for resolving the problem, but it should never have required the guest to escalate the matter personally.

If the hotel is selling Ocean Facing Suites at a premium, guests should actually receive the room category they have paid for. If a Palm Facing room is being offered instead, this should be made absolutely clear before check-in.

Housekeeping: Housekeeping was another area where the hotel fell short. The cleaning was quite ordinary and lacked the attention to detail one normally associates with a Marriott property. During our stay, the standard of cleaning simply did not feel consistent with the level of the hotel.

Mini-bar: The mini-bar was never replenished during our stay. While this may appear to be a minor issue, it is a basic housekeeping/service responsibility and again suggested a lack of attention to detail.

Dining – excellent breakfast, but limited options for lunch and dinner: Breakfast deserves special mention — it is excellent and was one of the highlights of our stay.

Unfortunately, the situation for lunch and especially dinner is quite different. There are currently two restaurants: one serving Vietnamese cuisine and the other offering international cuisine. The international restaurant has a very restricted menu, leaving very limited choices for guests staying at the property for several days.

Lunch is manageable, particularly with casual options such as French fries and similar items, but dinner becomes a genuine problem. After a few days, there simply isn’t enough variety or enough appealing choices within the property.

As a result, guests are left with the choice of buying food from supermarkets or travelling a considerable distance to find suitable restaurants. For a resort-style property where guests may reasonably expect to dine on-site, this is a significant weakness. A much more varied dinner menu, or an additional dining concept, would make a considerable difference to the guest experience.

Overall: I would describe the property as good, and the excellent breakfast and helpful management are definite positives. However, the experience is let down by the handling of the room-category issue, housekeeping standards, lack of mini-bar replenishment and, for longer stays, the very limited dining choices.

The management was helpful once we finally reached them, but guests should not have to come down to the lobby and escalate matters personally to get a room issue addressed.

For a Marriott property of this standard, I would expect greater transparency regarding room categories, more attentive housekeeping, consistent basic service and substantially better dinner options. With improvements in these areas, this could be a much stronger overall experience.
