the staff made me feel genuinely welcome. The check-in process was smooth and efficient, with the front desk team being friendly, patient.The room itself was clean, comfortable, also appreciated the little touches — bottled water in the room, timely responses to requests, and the general sense that the staff truly cared about guest comfort. Nothing felt rushed or impersonal.
I have to concede my rating is limited to the booking process, and in particular the indifference of the reception staff when they advised us the booking had not been confirmed! The booking was ‘prepaid’ so we assumed it was confirmed. However apparently the ‘notification’ we received and thought was confirmation advised otherwise. The problem was it was written in Vietnamese!! ‘ Too bad, it’s your problem but the fee would be refunded. Strange city, strange languish, I’ll let you be the judge 🤔
We stayed at Balcona Hotel Da Nang for 9 nights. The frontline staff were genuinely lovely, polite and helpful. Housekeeping was excellent and kept our room spotless throughout our stay, and the breakfast buffet was fantastic — plentiful, high quality, with excellent fresh pho.
Unfortunately, several management policies significantly detracted from the experience.
Despite being a couple staying for 9 nights, we were only permitted one room key. We asked for a second and even offered a cash deposit of more than 3,000,000 VND, but were told a second key represented a “security threat”. We could find no warning of this restriction when booking.
We also specifically booked an Executive Room with Afternoon Tea. After enjoying it on the first day, we were told it was only provided once during the entire 9-night stay. We could find nothing in the booking information or fine print clearly stating that this advertised inclusion was a one-off. Oddly, nine separate consecutive one-night bookings would apparently receive it nine times, while our 9-night booking received it once.
We raised both issues through Booking.com, but the hotel declined to resolve them.
Beach towel availability was also hit-and-miss. There were often no towels available early in the morning or they had run out by midday, despite guests being expected to return them each afternoon.
The staff themselves were a real positive and did their best. Unfortunately, rigid management policies and unclear room inclusions detracted considerably from what otherwise could have been a great stay.
We found a cockroach in our room. Management apologized and offered a plate of fruit as compensation, which felt inadequate given the seriousness of the issue.
The Front Office Manager apologized and offered complimentary airport transportation as compensation. However, around two hours later, she withdrew the offer saying it had been declined by senior management.
We found a staple on the floor beside the bed, creating an unnecessary safety hazard.
The baby cot was unstable and tipped over in the middle of the night, which was extremely concerning.
The pool policy was also disappointing. Even if a child is a confident swimmer, but under 1.4 meters - the child is only allowed to use the baby pool, which is less than 2 feet deep. Even with parent supervision they could not go in the deep pool.
