The hotel is close to the beautiful Nai Yang Beach. A variety of restaurants and bars are located nearby and Phuket town, with its shopping and nightlife opportunities, is a 40-minute drive from the resort. Facilities include a lobby with 24-hour reception, hotel safe, currency exchange, cloakroom, a café, bar and restaurant, a hairdressing salon, a games room, conference facilities, and Wi-Fi. Guests can also use the room and laundry services. Parking facilities are available. Younger guests will love the playground and the kids club, with large screen televisions and computers.
Pamper yourself with a visit to the spa, which offers massages, body treatments and facials. You're sure to appreciate the recreational amenities, which include 3 outdoor swimming pools, outdoor tennis courts and a fitness centre. Additional features at this resort include complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and babysitting (surcharge).
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The Slate is a striking property, and that is precisely why my stay was so frustrating. The design deserves five stars. The operations, on the evidence of my visit, deserve far fewer.
A chaotic arrival. A billing error through the Hyatt booking resulted in my credit card being charged twice, and it took 30 minutes at reception to sort out. I was then pressed to download the resort's app, which I declined for a short stay. Staff also initially refused to hand me a key card, explaining that a guided room orientation was mandatory by management directive. I asked to go to my room later, as I wanted to catch the sunset.
An hour in the rain. When I returned late at night in heavy rain, the guided orientation had disappeared entirely. I was handed a key card with no room number written down, no map, and no mention that the room was in a distant building. The property's layout uses building codes that have no obvious relation to room numbers. I spent around an hour walking through the downpour trying to find it. When I finally did, the room turned out to be locked and under renovation.
The response. Back at reception, soaked, I was met with routine efficiency rather than any real attempt at service recovery. My written complaint to management received a reply that explained the incidents largely with the resort's design concept, along with a discount of about 1,300 baht on an additional night. For a guest sent into a tropical storm to a room under construction, that felt inadequate.
One more coordination issue. Despite everything, I decided to give the resort a final chance and extended my stay by one night, confirmed through the app. Considerably later, I received a call asking when I would be vacating the room. Clearly, communication between the systems and the front desk still needs work.
What works. The rooms themselves are genuinely excellent. The pool concept is also well thought out, with two adults-only pools and a separate family pool, so everyone finds their space. It is a real pity that all pools close at 6 pm, which means you cannot enjoy the sunset from the water. The location is very good as well: there is no private beach, but the beach is just a short walk away, and shops and massage places are right around the corner.
A note for Hyatt members. Booking through Hyatt's Mr & Mrs Smith channel cost me noticeably more than comparable independent channels, while offering virtually no recognition of top-tier status. Compare prices before booking.
Conclusion. The bones of an exceptional resort are here. What is missing is reliable process: a consistent check-in, clear wayfinding, and room allocation that does not send guests to construction sites. I would genuinely like to see this property live up to its design, and I would consider returning if these basics are fixed. As it stands, I cannot recommend it.
Once again this year, we visited The Rivet whilst on holiday at The Slate. And what can I say: our very positive experiences from all those past years have been confirmed once more. It’s still a really cool and inviting venue with a great atmosphere, superb service and delicious food. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening once again, complete with excellent drinks. We had an exceptional experience staying in the Slate Phuket on September 2026. Check in and out was seamless and comfortable (with 2 small kids). The room was clean, comfortable and beautifully designed. Food was tasty and restaurant service was great. The beach has a nice Thai vibe with cool restaurants, message stands, etc. And it is located just 10 minutes from the airport.

I spent 3 days and 2 nights at The Slate Phuket, and it was much more than just a beautiful resort. The property beautifully combines Phuket’s tin mining heritage with nature, art, and industrial-inspired architecture, creating a truly unique atmosphere.
I stayed in the 65-square-meter Pearl Bed Suite, which features warm wooden details, handcrafted elements, a private balcony overlooking the greenery, and a large bathtub. The resort is spacious, with three swimming pools, a spa, gym, art gallery, Kids Club, and easy access to Nai Yang Beach.
The dining experiences were another highlight. Black Ginger offers refined Thai and local Phuket cuisine in a stunning setting, while Rivet & Rebar brings a stylish industrial atmosphere with Modern Grill and International dishes. Tin Mine is also a great option for breakfast and lunch.
The Slate has been recognized with a MICHELIN One Key, along with several design and hospitality awards.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. The combination of history, architecture, nature, food, and thoughtful details makes The Slate feel very different from a typical resort.
We had a truly perfect family stay at The Slate. From the moment we arrived, the hospitality and service were exceptional, making us feel completely cared for. The food across the resort was delicious, and the unique atmosphere created an unforgettable backdrop for our vacation. Everything was simply flawless.
