Nestled on the edge of cliff with sweeping views of the Andaman Sea, Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay is a 5-star resort with an outdoor swimming pool, sauna and an on-site restaurant. Families with children can enjoy afternoon at the Kid's Zone while adults can relax at the sauna. The 194 non-smoking guest rooms are well-appointed with modern amenities and comfort. They include a flat-screen TV, a minibar and an in-room safe. A bathtub or shower, along with free toiletries, can be found in the en suite bathrooms. Spacious suites with a private pool on the terrace are also available. A variety of cuisines, cocktails and other refreshments can be sampled at the restaurant and bar. Fresh coffee and refreshing drinks can be enjoyed at the cafe. The centre of Patong, which includes the famous nightlife on Bangla Road and the shopping paradise i s a 10-minute drive away.

Disappointing Stay From Start to Finish

You’re right—that timeline is much clearer. Here’s the complete review with the events in the correct order and all the details you’ve shared.

We booked and paid for an Ocean View Suite, expecting the experience of a five-star luxury resort. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst hotel experiences we have ever had.

While the initial booking issue may have been caused by the travel agency, the way the hotel handled it was completely unacceptable. When we checked in on the 24th, we were informed that the Ocean View Suite we had reserved was not available.

The first room we were given had absolutely no privacy, so we immediately asked to be moved.

We were then transferred to a garden view room. The “garden view” consisted mainly of a dead tree surrounded by insects, and the room was infested with ants. They were crawling across the floor, the furniture, and even on the bed itself. The pool was also dirty and not properly maintained. Because of the ant infestation, we requested to be moved again.

The third room initially appeared cleaner, but it had a completely different set of problems. Underneath the coffee counter we found spilled spoiled milk with worms crawling all over it, making it obvious that the room had not been properly cleaned before our arrival. This room also had no hot water, the walls were damp, and water leaked onto the floor, leaving it constantly wet. The Wi-Fi disconnected constantly throughout our stay, making it unreliable. Housekeeping repeatedly failed to provide enough towels. Face towels and hand towels were often missing, and sometimes we were were left with only one or two bath towels, forcing us to repeatedly call housekeeping. When we requested soap, we were even given an expired product. Despite all of these problems, this still was not the Ocean View Suite we had booked and paid for.

Since we had specifically reserved an Ocean View Suite, we kept asking to be moved to the room category we had paid for. We were told on the 24th that the earliest they could upgrade us would be on the 27th, so we waited four days. During that time, instead of enjoying our vacation, we spent a large part of it packing, unpacking, changing rooms, and repeatedly speaking with reception.

On the 27th, after waiting exactly as we had been instructed, we were finally offered another room. However, it was only a partial sea view, where most of the view was a roof with only a small section of the garden and sea visible. We explained that we had paid for a full Ocean View Suite, not a partial sea view. The response we received was simply, “This is what we have.” We were then shown another room that actually had an even worse view. Since neither room matched what we had paid for, we did not accept either of them.

We were then told that the hotel does not actually have rooms with a direct ocean view and that all of their “ocean view” rooms are only partial or side sea view rooms. If that is the case, advertising and selling an Ocean View Suite is extremely misleading.

Another major issue was transportation within the resort. The property is so large that guests have to request a buggy through the hotel’s app just to get to the lobby or other facilities. Almost every time we requested one, we had to wait anywhere from 15 to 40 minutes, and no one informed us about the delays in advance. On several occasions, the buggy drivers also seemed irritated or annoyed that we requested transportation to the lobby, making us feel like we were inconveniencing them simply by using a service the hotel provides.

The staff were friendly at the beginning of our stay, but as the days went on, every employee seemed to give us different information. There was no consistency in the answers we received. After spending several days dealing with room changes and hotel issues, we decided to cut our trip short. A receptionist specifically told us that, because of everything that had happened, we would only be charged for one additional night. However, when we checked out, we were charged the full amount instead. Once again, what we had been promised was not honored.

In the end, we never received the Ocean View Suite we paid for. We paid for a luxury five-star experience and instead spent our vacation changing rooms, dealing with ants crawling on the bed, spoiled milk and worms in the room, maintenance issues, poor housekeeping, expired toiletries, unreliable Wi-Fi, long waits for transportation, inconsistent communication, and broken promises.

This hotel is advertised as a five-star luxury resort, but based on our experience, it did not even meet the standards of a two-star hotel. We left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and misled. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, especially if you are paying extra for an Ocean View Suite.

Decent stay for Phuket.

We’re currently here for a four-night stay with friends for a special occasion, with celebrations planned over the next few days. We arrived day before yesterday and booked one of the Pool Suites.

Having stayed at the Amari Phuket around two months ago, it was inevitable we’d compare the two properties. Overall, this resort is a step above in several important areas.

The layout, accessibility and rooms are excellent. The staff have been genuinely warm and welcoming, and the views from the breakfast restaurant are absolutely beautiful.

Breakfast has been a little mixed. The quality is very good and the spread is generous, with extensive Thai and Middle Eastern options. However, I was genuinely surprised that there wasn’t a single Indian breakfast dish available. Indian travellers make up a significant proportion of visitors to Thailand, and most leading international hotels recognise this by offering at least a few Indian breakfast staples. Hotels such as the Okura Bangkok and Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok do this exceptionally well. It would be wonderful to see this resort introduce even a small Indian section, as it would make the breakfast experience feel far more inclusive for guests from the Indian subcontinent.

On a similar note, I was surprised to receive notifications in Arabic through the resort app. While it’s clear the hotel caters very well to Middle Eastern guests, it would be a much nicer guest experience if app notifications were personalised according to each guest’s preferred language.

The resort app itself is otherwise a great feature, making it easy to request transport around the property and access other services.

We also arranged a Mercedes E-Class airport transfer for 1,500 Baht, and our driver, Ake (I hope I’ve got his name right), was outstanding. Professional, friendly and an excellent ambassador for the resort. We’ll definitely be requesting him again for our return journey.

Our Pool Suite is spacious and comfortable, and the air conditioning is superb—probably one of the best we’ve experienced. Sleep quality has been excellent.

That said, there are a few areas where I think the experience could be improved.

The biggest disappointment has been the view from our suite. We hadn’t realised that some Pool Suites have very limited outlooks, and ours mainly overlooks the entrances to neighbouring rooms. After watching numerous YouTube videos showcasing spectacular views, I had expected something similar. In hindsight, I probably should have booked an Ocean View category, but it may also help if guests are made more aware of the differences between the various Pool Suite locations.

The shower pressure, along with the water flow from the basin tap, is surprisingly weak for a resort of this calibre. It’s not a major issue, but it is noticeable.

We’ve also come across a few insects—a couple of mosquitoes and, rather unexpectedly, what looked like a small centipede in the shower. I appreciate this is a tropical destination, so it’s not entirely unexpected, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

These are relatively minor points and, as we’re only midway through our stay, I’m hopeful they may simply be isolated to our room. I haven’t raised any of them with the hotel yet, as I wanted to give an honest first impression while giving the resort an opportunity to see this feedback during our stay.

Overall, I would absolutely recommend this resort. The positives comfortably outweigh the negatives, and with attention to a few of the points above, the experience could easily be outstanding. If you’re booking, I’d simply recommend choosing a room category with a guaranteed view if that’s important to you and also keep in mind the food restrictions you may have as an Indian and as an Indian vegetarian. We’re looking forward to enjoying the remainder of our stay.

A Wonderful Second Stay – An Experience Worth Repeating

This was my second stay at Grand Wyndham Phuket, and I stayed for 3 days. Once again, it was an excellent experience in every way. Everything was outstanding, from the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms to the great facilities, delicious breakfast, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.

I would especially like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Osama Azazy for his exceptional hospitality, professionalism, and genuine care for guests. He was always friendly, attentive, and willing to help with anything we needed. His outstanding service made our stay even more enjoyable and memorable. Having someone like him on the team truly reflects the high standards of the hotel.

Thank you to the entire staff for making our stay so wonderful. I will definitely return again on my next visit to Phuket and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fantastic place to stay.
