Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We just returned from this truly wonderful resort and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The hotel grounds are vast, beautifully landscaped, and very well maintained. The different villas are spread throughout the property, which gives the resort the feeling of a small, peaceful village. Despite the size of the hotel, it often felt as though we had the place almost to ourselves. We would rarely come across other guests while walking to breakfast, the beach, or the pool.
We had the pleasure of staying in the Reserve area in a Grand Reserve Pool Villa. The villa was beautifully appointed, with a more contemporary style that we really liked. There was plenty of storage space, especially in the bathroom and dressing area, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. Housekeeping was also excellent throughout our stay. The private pool was surrounded by high, lush vegetation, giving it a wonderful sense of privacy. The staff were lovely throughout our stay — always smiling, friendly, and genuinely trying to help whenever needed.
One of the things we appreciated most about the resort was its peaceful atmosphere. There was no loud music or unnecessary noise, which contributed greatly to the relaxing feeling of the place. Another huge positive was the availability of sun loungers. There was none of the usual early-morning rush to reserve them. We could arrive at the beach or pool around 11:00 and still easily find plenty of free loungers. This really added to the stress-free atmosphere of the holiday.
Breakfast was excellent, with a very wide selection and plenty of freshly prepared options.
For lunch, we occasionally ate at the Beach House and Pool House. The food was good overall, although prices are definitely considerably higher than at restaurants outside the hotel. We had dinner at Sala Thai, which was absolutely excellent. We also had dinner once at the Beach House, which unfortunately was a little underwhelming, as we found the dishes rather poorly seasoned.
The hotel regularly organizes themed dinner evenings as well, although we found the prices for these to be quite steep. As a result, we often chose to eat outside the resort, where there are several very good options nearby.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay. The beautiful surroundings, spacious and private villa, friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere, and complete absence of the usual sun-lounger competition made this a particularly relaxing holiday. We would happily return.
We stayed 13 nights in a Grand Reserve Pool Villa, the resort's top category, with our 11-year-old daughter, booked as a package through British Airways Holidays. The good: the gardens and beach are genuinely beautiful, the villa is spacious with a private pool, and the staff are warm and willing. Correspondence before arrival was prompt and helpful.
Food and beverage: this is where it falls down. The resort displays a notice at breakfast advising guests that during peak hours (which they define as 08:30–10:15) there may be a 15–30 minute wait, and recommending you dine at 7am to avoid it. Being told to queue for breakfast at this level is not what we expected. The optional half-board and full-board upgrades are priced above what the identical three courses cost à la carte from the resort's own menus, and exclude imported steak, lobster and all drinks, and are non-refundable. Activities: several are chargeable in ways that surprised us. The scheduled group "Sunrise Yoga" is THB 500++ per person and is delivered by the resort's fitness instructor, who also leads the Thai boxing and the rest of the programme, rather than a yoga specialist. Four Seasons, Banyan Tree and Six Senses on this island all include group yoga.
Management: the most significant issue. Throughout our stay there was no empowered manager on the property. We were told the General Manager was in Europe, and the senior person available was unable to make decisions. Our formal complaint, raised via our tour operator, was relayed back to them inaccurately, and we had to correct it in writing before it was properly considered.
Value: for the Reserve category at this price, the experience did not match. Lovely bones, kind people, but poorly run and poor value.
Arrived without our bags and the hotel were fantastic. The hotel car offered to take us to get some essentials en route to the hotel and customer relations team sought us out to keep us updated and celebrated with us when they arrived.
This is a really lovely, boutique feel hotel with all the luxury you want in a 5* Hotel. All of the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and really eager to give you the best holiday possible.
We had a garden room with a plunge pool and as a family of 4 (11 and 13) this was spacious. we had 2 rollaway beds in what would be a seating area and a large bathroom with a privacy screened shower and privacy screened toilet. Perfect for children who are starting to seek privacy.
The facilities are beautiful, the food is fantastic and the service is great. The pool area looks a little tired. The beds have plastic padding, which gets very hot, and there aren't enough parasols by the pool. however, the pool bar is lovely with lovely food, perfect for lunch and the beach is more picturesque with free bottles of water and the beds are made up for you as you approach. There are lots of places to find shade on the beach.
The beach is quiet, which was lovely, with only a few sellers. The sellers weren't pushy and were a welcome sight. Corn on the Cobb BBQ'd on a Thai beach will always be the best you'll ever have. They also sell fruit plates, coconuts, ice cream and sarongs.
The hotel is very quiet in the evening. There is ambient dinner entertainment at the Beach house restaurant and a nightly fire show on the beach. The hotel singers sing in the lounge bar until 10pm but the hotel goes quiet afterwards. It's 600 Thai Baat to get the hotel car into Fishermans village ,which has a lively atmosphere and the kids enjoyed walking around the markets.
If you have a problem in the room, someone will appear straight away to fix it or bring you whatever you have asked for.
If we went again we would pay the extra for a Beachside villa. However, ours was still lovely.
I couldn't pick out any one member of staff because they were all fantastic. Beer organised our trips and went above and beyond with a fully personal service. All of the food and bar staff would chat about our plans and offer hints, tips and restaurant recommendations.
We have been returning to the Santiburi for a number of years now, its the best place we have ever stayed, period. If you do happen to go, there is a very special person called Pimpa who has been at the resort since its inception 30+ years ago. Pimpa is awesome and is always at hand if any help is required. All the staff, I mean all the staff are there to help and ensure you have a wonderful stay. To re-iterate the service and care of the teams to ensure you have a fantastic stay is nothing like we have experienced anywhere else in the world. (Thai people are very special.) The facilities are great with a spa, tennis, golf and a good gym and the grounds and properties are on the flat which is really helpful being a disabled person in the party. We always stay in a couple of villas in the grand reserve and they are modern, clean and have their own pool, which is big enough enough for an easy swim, not just dipping. The main pool is massive (There is a pool bar) and all the surrounding areas are very green and mature and peaceful. The beach is pristine with plenty of very comfy sunbeds and the beach restaurant really comes alive at night with very subtle entertainment such as live singers, fire shows or authentic thai dancers in beautiful traditional attire. Special mention to Sac, Sodsai, Pear & Tik & many others such as the chefs, who provide such brilliant experiences for lunch or dinner. The menu has a good mix of local specialities and western food and an extensive wine list. The resort is very family friendly and it's very quiet with most things stopped by 10.30pm so a good nights sleep is always guaranteed. If you want to get out to see stuff such as the Fishermans Village there are plenty of taxis and other experiences such as elephants or zip wires can be arranged. This place is a 10/10 for a family of 5 (Parents + 3 girls (15,19 & 21). 2026 I struggled to get out of the pool due to a leg injury so the engineering team built me some steps. (See photo's!)
Thank you to the entire Santiburi Koh Samui team for an unforgettable stay!
We truly enjoyed every moment of our vacation. The beautiful rooms, stunning beach, and well-maintained pool area made our holiday perfect. The food was excellent throughout our stay.
A big thank you to all the staff for your warm hospitality and outstanding service. We highly recommend Santiburi Koh Samui and look forward to returning.
