The Ritz Carlton Koh Samui

So far, this has been a deeply disappointing experience, especially considering the price and the level of luxury this property claims to offer.

The problems started at check-in. We were told we had received an upgrade, only to discover that what we had actually received was not the upgrade we had been led to believe it was. That immediately damaged our trust.

The room itself has been another major disappointment. It is far from the beach, the view is largely obstructed by trees and other buildings, and the furniture, finishes and overall presentation simply do not feel remotely as refined or luxurious as expected at this price point.

Food and beverage has only reinforced that impression. The restaurant presentation feels surprisingly casual, and seeing wine bottles simply placed on a table with a cloth, as shown in my photos, says a lot about the level of attention to detail we have experienced. These may sound like small things individually, but they are precisely the details that distinguish genuine luxury hospitality.

After seeing the room, we even explored cancelling the reservation through American Express, but the hotel declined the exception and we were told there were no alternative rooms available.

The front desk manager nick, who spoke with us was polite and kind, and I think it is fair to acknowledge that. However, good manners do not fix the underlying problems or make the experience worth what is being charged.

We are still staying at The Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui, and this is my first review. I will post my final review after check-out based on the complete experience and, importantly, on how the hotel handles the remainder of our stay.

For now, I would seriously think twice before booking this property, particularly when Koh Samui has so many other luxury resorts competing at this level

We were so happy to return to this beautiful hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the spa is excellent.
