We spent 5 nights at the Ibis. Great location, very tropical pool area right on the beach. Rooms are small, but who spends all day in their room? Fishermans village is a 15 minute walk but lots of local restaurants on the main road outside the hotel. A 7/11 right next door which is handy. Would recommend this resort!
We booked a Koh Tao snorkeling tour through the reception of Ibis Samui Bophut, operated by Lomlahkkhirin High Speed Ferries.
At the beginning of the tour, we were given four sets of snorkeling equipment and were clearly told to return everything to the boat at the end of the experience. We did exactly that.
However, after returning the equipment, one member of staff accused us of not returning one of the four pairs of goggles/masks.
We explained that we had returned everything and even offered to open our backpacks so they could check them. We had absolutely no intention of taking any equipment.
Instead of resolving the situation calmly, we were taken to an office and surrounded by approximately five members of staff. We felt intimidated and pressured, and were ultimately forced to pay 1,500 THB for the allegedly missing equipment.
We were never shown any evidence that we had taken the item.
The way this situation was handled was completely unacceptable. We paid 1,500 THB simply because we felt pressured and intimidated by the situation, not because we agreed that we had taken anything.
We have complained to the company and are requesting a full refund.
Be very careful when renting snorkeling equipment with this company. Make sure everything is counted and documented when you receive and return it.
The snorkeling experience itself is not the main issue here. The way the staff treated us afterwards was extremely disappointing and made what should have been a pleasant day into a very unpleasant experience.
