I needed to write this review just after 4 days as the negative reviews aren’t justified in my opinion and quite honestly as I worried about coming to mai khao lak because of them.
The place is paradise- we are in a villa and it’s absolutely stunning. So much space, privacy and beauty! The villa is beautifully decorated and cleaned to a high standard.
The staff here are all so polite and friendly and I definitely didn’t encounter rude staff on the reception- my take on that is maybe if you are rude you get what you receive??
Breakfast is great, a selection of everything you could want for breakfast.
As for the wildlife- it’s a tropical climate and yes we had some tiny lizards wanting to sofa surf for the night but we politely asked them to leave via to open door and they did!
The beach is idyllic, plenty of restaurants, a couple or shops and bars and massage is about £6 for 1 hour. Food in the hotel is good drinks reasonably priced too.
Enjoyable stay, but not quite the luxury experience we expected
We stayed at Mai Khao Lak Beach Resort & Spa for six nights in late April 2026. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, but it didn’t quite feel like the luxury experience we were expecting. Check-in was smooth, and our two Deluxe Suite Premium Upgrade rooms worked well for our family of four, especially with the shared balcony access between the rooms. The resort itself is large, very family-friendly, and in a beautiful beachfront setting. Unfortunately, a few things let it down. The air conditioning in room 209 wasn’t working properly when we arrived and needed several maintenance visits over the next few days. It improved, but then started playing up again on our last day. The Wi-Fi was also patchy at times, which affected the smart TV. Housekeeping was another area that could be better. Beds were made and towels and water were replaced, but the room didn’t always feel thoroughly cleaned, and used cups and glasses were not consistently replaced. We were also surprised that wine glasses weren’t provided in the room unless we paid extra. There were definitely some highlights. Breakfast had a good range, including options for kids and dietary requirements, Talay Thai was easily our favourite restaurant, and the complimentary massage at Mind Spa was excellent. Staff were generally warm and welcoming, and although the resort is a little isolated, there are still a few shops, restaurants and massage places within walking distance. Overall, this is a good family resort in a lovely location, but a bit more attention to maintenance, housekeeping and detail would make a big difference.

Beautiful hotel with stunning beach.
Beautiful hotel set in the middle of rain forest surroundings with a stunning beach. Our room was lovely and clean. The food is great especially the breakfast, lots of choice.

Exceptional Experience
We stayed as a family for two weeks during August 2026 which was monsoon season in Thailand. The hotel is set next to Pakweep Beach and is a large resort with numerous, clean outdoor pools, restaurants and bars. The hotel is set in Khao Lak, a small town in the middle of a rainforest, and the hotel provides transfers every hour if pre-booked. The taxi will take you to Khao Lak night market, Khao Lak centre or Memory Beach (where there is surfing and various shops and cafes).
At the time of our stay, the hotel was quiet and some areas were under renovation as was made clear in our booking form with TUI. Several days into our holiday, due to unplanned works, we were upgraded to a villa adjacent to the beach. It was luxurious, spacious and added to our enjoyment of the holiday.
The resort and our room were cleaned and prepared meticulously every day. They are well staffed and all the staff were courteous and helpful throughout. In particular, Alunso, the manager who resolved the issue with the unplanned works and Chun, who drove the internal buggy around the grounds and helped us transfer our luggage, were exemplary.
We had booked breakfast only. The breakfast options were sumptuous and included both western and asian diets as well as catering for all dietary requirements.
As we were staying during the monsoon/off-peak season, the only entertainment in the evening was a film and popcorn aimed at young children. However, there was a spa, two gyms, pool table, tennis/basket ball court, table tennis and of course swimming. There were also free classes in Muay Tai Boxing, football and a treasure hunt.
For our family, the quietness, cleanliness and attention to detail made our holiday exceptional.
On the beach adjacent to the hotel, I recommend Mr Smith for tours (rather than the more expensive tours offered by TUI and the hotel's own representative) and Mr Bao's for lunch/dinner, where it is more varied and well priced compared to the resort restaurants. We also had our laundry done at Mr Bao's, a massage on the beach (adjacent to Mr Bao's) and chose to buy a few groceries in Khao Lak centre.

Amazing hotel and staff
First time in Thailand for our honeymoon with the kids and it has been amazing from start to finish, what makes this a great hotel is the staff they are all so polite and happy and helpful all the time and couldn’t do enough for you. The facilities and food has been outstanding 5 stars and definitely made this holiday. Special mention to Choh who was so attentive always grabbing us towels and water on our way out and providing g transport to the beach and back, the reception staff again amazing and attentive at all times special mention to Fasha and Sandina…. Thank you for such a special time
