- The Royal Pita Maha

Located in the area of Kedewatan in Ubud, the Royal Pitamaha offers spectacular views of the Ayung river valley. Sitting 3 kms from the centre of Ubud guests will find themselves in a haven of peace and tranquillity yet just a short distance from the culturally enriching city itself and the Balinese capital of Denpasar is just a 35 minute drive from the hotel. The Balinese villas of the resort lovingly embrace the landscape of the serene river valley and blend harmoniously with their surroundings. Spread across 12 hectares the resort stretches down the river valley to the meandering river. Set amidst terraced rice paddies, river gorges and tropical woodlands it is a secret paradise. The resort features high-quality locally-sourced materials and modern innovation allowing guests the utmost in comfort and relaxation amidst the intrinsic beauty of the surroundings.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We spent four nights here as a family of four and from the moment we arrived, it felt like stepping into another world. Perched high above the Ayung River and wrapped in dense jungle the Royal Pita Maha offers an immediate calm and seclusion that is in such contrast to the hustle and bustle of the Ubud streets. Walking through the grounds each morning was an experience in itself - serene, quiet, filled with nature.
Our private pool villa gave us plenty of space, and it was brilliant for the kids being able to swim on their own. And the views! Waking to that vista in the morning really sets you up for the day.
The staff are great – always friendly, attentive and welcoming without ever being intrusive. And all of them were fantastic with the kids.
Breakfast overlooking the valley was a lovely way to start the day, and the hotel’s location made it an excellent base for exploring Ubud before returning to the tranquillity of the resort each afternoon.
The resort isn’t modern in the contemporary luxury sense, but that’s very much part of its appeal. Some areas are like stepping back into Bali’s prime Hindu history, and everything is beautifully maintained and full of authentic Balinese character.
If you’re looking for a polished international hotel this probably isn’t it - the rooms would be described as characterful rather than modern, and are a little worn around the edges but it lends to the charm. However if you want a peaceful, character-filled retreat that captures the spirit of Ubud, the Royal Pita Maha is a very special place.
We had a hilarious and amazing experience and stay at the royal house in royal pita Maha, I would like you to thank the great team and specially: Tini, yugita, jaka, yuksim, kabani.
