Set in a secluded hillside position above the Ayung River and surrounded by lush verdant vegetation, the beautiful Alila Ubud boutique hotel is situated in the traditional hill village of Payangan in central Bali. Contemporary architecture meets traditional Balinese style, as guests may admire Indonesian art in the hotel's art gallery or in the sculpture garden. An emerald infinity pool seems to be floating above the valley and guests may sample authentic Balinese cuisine in the hotel's restaurant. A truly unique travel experience.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Just loved this resort. The location, the staff, the service, the spa and the food was excellent. The only negative was the pool was a little cool and not very inviting. We purchased a luxury escapes package for 6 and it was very worthwhile. Highly recommend this resort for couoles or even groups.
Stayed for 4 nights and were wowed by the location and experience of this hotel. The setting is absolutely spectacular and the breakfast was equally delicious. The hotel has daily changes to the breakfast menu with the main dishes to order, which meant they arrived fresh. Monkeys are a problem as they take breakfast items, and in our experience afternoon tea cakes, but the hotel knows and had someone on hand towards the end of our stay to put them off! I understand it’s their habitat, you just don’t want a situation where one attacks a human.
Rooms are sensational, our pool villa was brilliant and servicing of the room is 5 star quality. The food is generally excellent but the set menu and Barong night menu were identical on consecutive nights which was a bit disappointing. Otherwise a super stay, great hotel.
You’re out of central Ubud so miss the madness of the city centre, which we liked.
The excursions from the hotel are 4x the price of other providers but were of equal quality and convenient. It’s the jungle, so bring ear plugs if you can’t sleep for every jungle noise under the sun, or moon. I liked it but some won’t.
Coming Back Feels Like Coming Home
This was our second stay at Alila Ubud, and once again, we were not disappointed. What touched us most was being recognized and warmly welcomed back. We have travelled around the world for many years, but this was the first hotel we chose to visit a second time. Returning truly felt a little like coming home.
We arrived late at night and were immediately asked whether we would still like something to eat. This thoughtful and caring approach is what makes Alila Ubud so special.
This time, we stayed in a Forest Edge Villa; two years ago, we stayed in a Pool Villa. Both experiences were absolutely wonderful. We would always choose a villa again, although the other rooms certainly have their own charm.
The quality and level of service have not changed. Many members of the team are still the same, the hospitality is exceptional, and every effort is made to fulfil guests’ wishes. Above all, we appreciate the warm, personal and almost family-like atmosphere. The friendly encounters and meaningful conversations made our stay truly special once again.
We had even missed the monkeys and were delighted to see them again in the natural surroundings of the hotel. There was no need to visit a temple or the nearby Monkey Forest to experience them. Alila Ubud is surrounded by nature, and we sincerely hope it will remain this way, without further hotels or apartment buildings being constructed nearby.
The hotel may no longer be brand-new, but that is part of its character and charm. Anyone looking for peace, nature and genuine hospitality should definitely stay here. We also appreciated the calm atmosphere without constant filming, staged photo shoots or crowds of people creating content for social media. Here, you can simply slow down and enjoy the beauty of the place.
The daily shuttle service to Ubud is excellent, and we can also highly recommend the excursions offered by the hotel.
What deserves far more than 100 percent from us is the warmth and kindness of the entire team. Thank you once again to everyone at Alila Ubud for your wonderful hospitality, the lovely conversations and the gentle reminder to appreciate what we have.
We would return again without hesitation.
The whole experience at the Alila Ubud is perfect. Management and every team really go out northern make you feel special. 5 stars isn’t enough!!! Thank you and we’d love to come back please!!
Jungle location, jungle infinity pool views and staff outstanding, truly breathtaking destination. Nicely away from busy Ubud but close enough to visit.
Try and go for a villa or superior room, our standard room was small and needed a refresh.
Highly recommend sunset walk from hotel though rice fields to nearby Begawan Biji farm to table restaurant for amazing local food and experiences including sunset views and farm tour.
