Cross Paasha Bali Seminyak

I want to be fair in this review because there were definitely some positives to our stay, especially the staff. However, I also feel it is important to be honest about the condition of the property because our experience did not match what we expected from a hotel marketed as a 5-star property. When we arrived, the cream-colored cushions around the pool were disgustingly dirty, as were the pillow wedges in the cabanas. Some of the cabanas had two loungers, but unfortunately, the loungers themselves were in poor condition. At one cabana, one lounger would not elevate at all, while on the other, the mechanism for securing the back in an upright position was broken. This made it difficult to comfortably use the pool area. The pool itself also had several broken tiles on the pool floor. In addition, the pool was only about 1.1 meters deep, which is less than 4 feet. I realize pool depth is a matter of preference, but combined with the condition of the pool area, it did not give us the luxury experience we were expecting. The washcloths were another disappointment. They were so dingy that some honestly looked more like cleaning rags than hotel linens. The shower was large and had good space, but the bathroom did not give off the clean, fresh feeling you would expect from a 5-star hotel (or even 3 -star). The breakfast and restaurant area near the pool was pleasant enough, and the city view from that level was nice. There were, however, quite a few abandoned or burned-out-looking buildings obstructing portions of the view. To be fair, this is not really the hotel’s fault, as you see this type of thing throughout the area. I will say that the hotel did make some efforts during our stay. By the time we were leaving, some of the cushions had been cleaned and a few of the broken pool tiles had been repaired. Unfortunately, it felt like too little, too late. Throughout the property, there seemed to be something that needed attention—whether it was a tarp, rope, something being repaired, or something that simply looked really worn. I honestly believe guests should be made aware of the current condition of the property before booking because there's no way I would have booked this property knowing it looked the way it did. The photographs on the hotel’s website create an impression that does not reflect what we experienced during our stay. In my opinion, this is not currently a 5-star hotel, it's more like maybe 2 - 3 star. I would strongly encourage travelers to look beyond the website photos before making a decision. Another thing worth mentioning is the spa. If you’re expecting a traditional spa experience, be aware that treatments are actually performed in your room. A massage bed is brought into the room rather than having the treatment in a dedicated, tranquil spa environment. This may be perfectly fine for some guests, but it was not what I expected from a 5-star property. The Positives: The location is excellent. The hotel is situated right in the middle of everything making it very convenient for shopping, restaurants, and exploring Seminyak. I will say the constant traffic and insane amount of motorbikes/mopeds out front make it exceptionally noisy and at times, difficult to try to cross the street. I literally thought I was going to get run over a few times but I ended up being able to navigate this part ok. You can also walk to the beach in approximately 10–15 minutes, or take a moped if you prefer. We actually found the walk to the beach quite manageable but not 7 minutes as we were told. Most importantly, the staff was excellent. Despite the shortcomings of the property itself, the staff consistently made an effort to make our stay pleasant. They were kind, accommodating, welcoming, and always seemed to have a smile on their faces. They genuinely appeared to have a “guest first” attitude in everything they did. Honestly, if it weren’t for the staff, I would have been much more disappointed with our hotel selection. Their professionalism and kindness helped make an otherwise disappointing experience more enjoyable. So, to the Cross Paasha staff: thank you. You were truly the best part of our stay, and your hospitality did not go unnoticed. I hope management takes the concerns about the property’s condition seriously because the location and, most importantly, the staff have a lot going for them. With the necessary maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep, this property could provide a much better experience and come closer to the standard guests expect when they see “5-star” associated with the hotel.
