We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Barceló Maya Riviera. It was a 6 night trip at the Premium level oceanfront room. There were so many people that made our stay and experience worth every penny. Maria Jose and Silver with the activities and entertainment team were so nice and welcoming our first few days while we got settled at the resort. Laura at the Premiere level lounge welcomed us as well to make sure we were set up for success. We quickly found our favorite servers and bartenders who were attentive, extremely friendly and sweet. Yuliana, Olivia, and Liliana at the Miramar buffet were our servers who knew exactly what we wanted before we sat down. Liliana at the Miramar hostess desk was so helpful in showing us where items were at the buffet. Of course, the pool bars were where we spent a lot of our time. Elena, Leandro, Margarita, Annette made sure we had our drinks made deliciously and served quickly. They even made special shots for us when it rained! We also wanted to deeply thank Ivet at the Premiere level concierge desk. Not only was she extremely helpful with appointments and reservations, she gave us a heartfelt explanation of the cenotes, the cultural significance of them to the Maya, and her recommendations on how to best experience the cenotes. We had a fantastic time. It was my husband and i’s second time to the hotel and we will definitely be coming back. We went with our friends on a couples trip. There were lots of LGBTQ+ people there and that helped make us feel welcome. The staff also had a lot of laughs with us and were always helpful. We would recommend this hotel to anyone and we will definitely be back.
Our only complaint was the rooms on the jungle side of the hotel smelled really bad. We asked to be moved and they would only accommodate other Jungle view rooms. As returning customers that also brought other business, a bit of loyalty would have gone a long way. Our friends were moved to an ocean side room to accommodate the smell in the rooms at no extra charge and when we asked, we were told no and that the hotel was full (which it was not). About 8 of the 10 days we were there. The hotel was basically empty as we were there in the off season.
Speaking of which, the weather did take a turn on our final days. It basically rained for 72 hours. We know this is not the hotels fault but for those wondering if this was a good time to go, I would say no due to that and the smell in the rooms as a result of the heightened humidity. Otherwise we will be back but at a different time of the year!
