The family-friendly Club Riu Tequila is excellently situated just south of the famous holiday resort of Playa del Carmen on the Mayan Riviera, close to the white sandy beach and the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. It features a charming colonial style architecture, a lovely garden and pool landscape and 24-hour all inclusive, making it an ideal place for families with children.
We’ve just returned from an amazing stay at Riu Tequila and honestly had such a lovely time! 🌴☀️
Our room was absolutely massive and cleaned perfectly every day. The cleaners did such a fantastic job, and we loved coming back to the little towel animals they made — such a lovely touch! The whole hotel was kept incredibly clean, with cleaners constantly around keeping everything looking spotless.
All of the staff were lovely — always polite, welcoming and friendly. A special mention to the lovely lady in the sports bar who exchanges your cash for coins for the pool table. She was so sweet and always had a smile on her face. ❤️
The food in the main buffet was great, with loads of choice and plenty to choose from. We only tried one of the speciality restaurants, the Italian. Just a little tip if you’re going: we didn’t realise the starter was buffet style and that you then ordered your main afterwards, so we ended up just getting our main from the buffet!
The beach was beautiful and really wasn’t far to walk at all. The shaded walkway made the walk much more comfortable, and there’s also a lovely man who takes you down on the golf buggy, which is especially handy. Our only downside with the beach was that there was nowhere to get a drink. The nearest option was the hotel on the beach, which was a little inconvenient.
The hotel shop is quite expensive, but if you walk down from the hotel a little way, there’s a strip of shops and bars where things are much cheaper. We also got a taxi into Playa del Carmen, which was really quick and surprisingly cheap.
We spent every day at the swim-up pool and always managed to get a sun lounger, no matter what time we arrived. The only downside was that the pool could have been cleaner on some days, with hair, bugs and little green bits floating around. It could also get quite busy around the swim-up bar, with people standing there for long periods, making it difficult to get in and actually get served.
We did notice that some guests took the all-inclusive drinks a little too far, with a few people becoming very unwell from alcohol. We felt the lifeguard could have been more proactive in those situations.
The NEON and WHITE parties were absolutely brilliant! 🎉 So much effort goes into them and they were definitely highlights of our holiday. The entertainment and shows were fantastic too. The only thing we struggled with was the heat — it was unbelievably warm, and you were sweating almost immediately! Even sitting watching the evening shows, we were sticking to the seats 😂.
Overall, we absolutely loved our stay at Riu Tequila. There are a few little things that could be improved, but they certainly didn’t ruin our holiday. The friendly staff, fantastic entertainment, beautiful beach, great food and overall atmosphere made it a holiday we’ll remember. We’d definitely consider returning! 🌴❤️
Wow - this was a holiday for my husbands 40th birthday - great choice, friendly welcome by reception, lovely rooms and a great shower! The pools are clean, we didn’t use the pool bar for obvious reasons (people drink all day but never seem to need the toilet!) The main pool is lovely and a great size, I loved that the entertainment staff would come over to let you know what activities were happening over in the activity pool so you could pop over - done this many of times, the bar and snack bar is right next to the pool as is the toilet and changing block. The grounds are kept immaculately clean and tidy as are the inside areas. The food is beautiful and you have so much choice along with juices and other drinks. We stayed at the yucatan in August and actually came here for 2 days as it was a better atmosphere. The sports bar has air con so if you need a break from the heat in the evening but don’t want to sit in your room you can relax in there, they also have hot and cold snacks. There is a lovely chap who does a beach run in a golf type buggy this runs roughly every 10 mins you can go to the beach and be collected to come back, I think he stops at 6pm. All in all absolutely loved it here and definitely recommend a visit.
Just came back from 2 week holiday, previously stayed at the Yucatan and didn’t think it could be beaten. So happy that I was wrong. Perfect weather certainly helped, atmosphere around the pool was excellent and met so many friendly people who were just there to enjoy a holiday, food and drink was excellent. Bar staff and restaurant staff were all so attentive and couldn’t do enough for you, Entertainment was superb and huge credit to the team there putting on a show every night. Really can’t say enough good things about this hotel or the playacar area, just gutted that we had to leave after 2 weeks
Unfortunately can not recommend this hotel after our stay was completely ruined, our son was repeatedly racially abused by another family, this was reported to the hotel manager who informed us there are no laws in Mexico regarding racism and told us there was nothing they could do, this was not just happening to our family the same boy was calling people the N word at the pool openly in front of other guest shouting for everyone to hear but the hotel still failed to act. Disgusted in the level of customer service provided! Riu does not take racist abuse of a minor serious at all!
We are just back from a fantastic week we all absolutely loved it.The food is amazing best we have ever had in an all inclusive we ate at the main restaurant ,the steak house and the Asian restaurant .The cocktails, wine,beer and spirits all good .The staff work so hard and are always happy the whe place is spotless,our room was cleaned everyday .The pools are great really warm and all the other geusts were really friendly .The shows on a night time are really good .The sports bar was our favourite lovely and cool inside open 24hrs for food and drink .The shop in the hotel is quite expensive but if you go.out the hotel and turn left there are some shops not far away .we went to the beach it was lovely plenty of loungers and literally a 5 minuite walk if that, just cross over the road and you will see the walkway we will definatley return to this hotel can not recommend it high enough.
