General view

Everything is top notch at Palafitos. 5 star service, food, and drink. The bungalows are spectacular and the water is some of the clearest in all of Mexico. Our butler, Liz, and bellman, Alberto, went above and beyond with everything we needed. It was the best service we’ve ever received!

This place is the real deal

This was a Once In a Lifetime Experience for us! 
For our 20th Wedding Anniversary, we wanted to find a special place… a special accommodation that we had not experienced, and being almost 70… A young and active 70, I might add… but nonetheless,  a realest to know we wouldn’t be celebrating our 50th… so we wanted our 20th to be special!

We have traveled the world and stayed in some very nice places with excellent service but none of them come close to the accommodations and service we received at Palifitos El Dorado Maroma! 

We wanted an over the water bungalow without the 18 hour flights each way to the Maldives or the cost of the flights, so we looked a little closer to home and being a fan of Cancun, we found the ONLY Over the water Bungalow’s in Cancun or Riviera Mia! 

After researching all the reviews we decided this was the place we wanted to come and we made our reservations. We had seen the layout of the bungalows and read the reviews and we knew what bungalows would be nice to have, and we also knew that there was not any way to reserve a certain bungalow other than paying for the Elite - Ocean view or the Standard- Beach view. We chose the Beach view option as we wanted to see the sunrise view from one side or the sunset view from the other side of the “T” shaped configuration of the bungalows! 

We landed in Cancun, acquired our transportation and headed to what we hoped would be an experience of a lifetime and for what this week cost compared to other weeks at a resort we had stayed in, the expectation was high! 

When we arrived we were immediately greeted by Alberto, who took our luggage and asked us if we’d like something to drink. We saw and were helped by Alberto several times during the week, which was very appreciated! The complex had several resorts, so once we told him we wished to go to Palifitos El Dorado Overwater Bungalows, he asked us to join him in his golf cart and he drove us to our resort… The complex is probably the most beautiful resort we have ever seen.

Once we got to the Palafitos check in office we were greeted at the front door by the General Manager, Miguel Camarero - who welcomed us to his resort and told us that he was personally at our service along with his staff, should we need anything!
We walked inside and check in was a breeze. We were given a beautiful Bungalow on the Sunset side.  

The staff:
From the Manager Miguel, who was a manager that commanded excellence, respect, and loyalty… and he received it from his staff for one reason - and you could see it each and everyday… because He gave it right back to them!!!

We were assigned two of the best Butler’s that we have ever had at any other resort!!! Aldo had the day shift and was on our deck greeting us every morning with fresh deck chair covers, fresh towels, itinerary for the day and he made sure that we had any needs we might have, met. And Awesome just doesn’t give this man justice! 
From 3 in the afternoon til 11 at night, Pilar would take over and she was the twin of Aldo… There could not of been a better “tag team” butler team that complimented each other to care for us… We always received soft drinks replenished everyday and a fresh ice bucket in the morning and one in the afternoon. Aldo and Pilar took it upon themselves to go over and above to make our Anniversary day so special with an Anniversary lunch on our deck and a candlelight Sunset dinner that was even more special! 
We just can’t say enough about the service… and it just doesn’t stop… and it’s not just our two wonderful butlers… but it’s everyone including our housekeeper Flor, who showed up daily with a smile on her face and the meticulous “white gljove  I” cleaning, she did everyday was awesome and so appreciated and our “Turndown service was done by Liz so graciously every night! 

The dreaded “Time Share” people:
We were warned in the reviews that they would find a way to find met you and sure enough… they did, but they did it a bit differently- disguised as a customer service guy checking on our happiness named Emmanuel… who was very nice and genuine, and after he heard that we were good, he told us about the “Club”… and stated
that if we would give them an hour

The Bungalow:
Now let’s talk about the Bungalow itself… Oh my Gosh… Except for going to the Palifitos restaurant, which sets right in the center of all the Bungalows… at the end of the deck… we didn’t leave our bungalow much, mainly because there was no reason to! This was not a hotel room or a place to sleep… This was a small resort within itself with a full service team of staff to make sure you don’t have to leave if you don’t want to and we sure didn’t want to! The bungalow was laid out beautifully with a king size bed… refrigerator anda large jacuzzi tub… nice size shower… in the bungalow… We had a deck on the same level as our “accommodations”… with a table and chairs for any meals and a very comfortable love seat…  s private pool and outdoor shower…. a deck down a level with two cushioned deck chairs and then stairs down to the beautiful blue water!

The Food:
The Palifitos Restaurant was where the reviews we had read, stated we should eat, but these reviews were not accurate… They were so underrated. I don’t think we have ever and all the traveling we have done eaten food that was prepared so delicious and eaten such quality food…  such as lobster for breakfast and I’m not talking small pieces of lobster in your omelette, but huge pieces of lobster… at least  4 ounces…  and the same for the filet mignon for lunch not to mention tiger shrimp and shrimp cocktail, and their 5 course dinners were incredible with several delectable choices. 

Overall:
I would like to give a list of pros in cons but I just can’t do it… 
So the Pros are:
I would put this resort up against any 5 start resort we have ever been to or heard about! 
And the Cons are: They made us go home after 7 days… 
It was truly an anniversary that we will never forget and although the facility was awesome… what made this review literally the best one I’ve ever written was not the resort but the people that gave of themselves to give us a 20th Anniversary week that was beyond anything we could ever have imagined a team of dedicated employees could treat two guest… and it wasn’t so much what they did… but how they did it… the little things that were so special to us! 
In closing, Miguel, the general manager… gets so much credit for all that took place because it was so obvious that his leadership… guidance… compassion and customer service expertise… has flowed into his entire team. I do hope “Miguel’s” upper management team realize just how difficult it is to find someone that can not only manage a resort and it’s team of employees, but also cater to the needs of what keeps resorts such at Palifitos open - it’s guest!!! We hope that we might find a way someday, to return to the best resort we have ever been to!

Once in a lifetime experience in an Over the Water Bungalow and we didn’t have to fly 18 hours to the Maldives to enjoy

This was our honeymoon trip and from the minute we arrived, we felt like royalty. 
everyone was so attentive to any of our needs, it was like they knew what we wanted and when we wanted it.  The bungalow is incredibly well-designed and comfortable and all amenities are clean and well-staffed.  The food was amazing.  We were there when the Hurricane hit and it was interesting to see the teamwork involved to get everything buttoned-up and then back open again so soon. I have been on many, many vacations and never been treated like this.  Our personal butlers, Aldo and Samantha were so good it was hard to believe! We already booked a return trip for our first anniversary and I requested them again.

I can't wait to go back again!

I went in bad times, we got there and there was only two couples in the complex, people left because hurricane Debry, we couldn’t return home because I couldn’t get a fly, stayed two nights in the bungalow and spend the pass of the hurricane in a regular room full of furniture inland.  To get out they even couldn’t get us transfer to the airport. We couldn’t enjoy all the amenities they offered us, because everything was canceled. We booked 7 nights, still trying to get my money back.  They won’t resolve any problem there, you need to go online to solve it. For my experience I would rated it super over priced. I have nothing to say about the personnel, Mexicans are great with the tourism. Worst birthday ever 😣

Truly paradise!! From hola to adios, we were treated like royalty!! Outstanding hospitality with attention to detail that is unmatched!! 

Food and drinks were world class!! Bedding and room was amazing!! Spa treatment was heavenly!!
