The Catalonia hotel is located in the same Maroma Beach considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world : it is characterized by its soft white sand that mixes naturally with a thin layer of coral pink, which ensures that it does not feel too hot to walk through its long stretch and enjoy the beauty of the sea.
Relax at the full-service spa, where you can enjoy massages, body treatments and facials. You can take advantage of recreational amenities such as a nightclub, outdoor tennis courts and an outdoor pool. Additional features at this property include complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and babysitting (surcharge).
Loved this resort, very jungle like setting. Love all the critters that you see at this resort. I was really hoping to see a monkey but not this time. We saw coatis, iguanas, racoons, aquotis, foxes and beautiful birds. Most of the food was wonderful, there was a few things I didn't care for. The rooms were nice and clean. We had no hot water in our shower until the last day. No blow dryer either, when we asked for one they said it was only for exclusive members. They also serve pretty cheap alcohol and if you ask for the better stuff you get told the same thing...only for exclusive members. Room service was nice but the food was cold by the time you get it. The pool was awful, really hot like bath water, so we preferred going in the ocean. One day the sargassum was so bad it was hard to access the water, but the resort does a fantastic job of clearing it daily. Bed was hard buy comfortable. Loved having the hot tub on our patio but again no hot water. We used it almost daily. Overall we really enjoyed this resort and would definitely come back in the near future. Thank you Catalonia for making my first trip to Cancun a wonderful experience.
A wonderful hotel in the Mayan Riviera that exudes peace and harmony amidst nature and wildlife—a great experience for relaxing and recharging. Home to friendly coatis that interact amicably with tourists. The beach was almost free of sargassum, and it is cleaned nearly every day. The hotel is clean, and the rooms are too. The staff, in general, are incredibly professional, friendly, and helpful. I would especially like to commend Vicky, the beach server. At the lobby bar near the entrance to Alejandra, the waiters Manuel Molina, Javier, and Luis, as well as Captain Adrian, were excellent. The concierge staff were also very helpful. Finally, a special thanks to the entertainment team—especially Mayra and "Temu"—who made our visit so much fun. The food at all the restaurants is delicious, and the coffee shop is fantastic. Bikini Bites wasn't good; the burgers were undercooked, and the crêpes were the same. To wrap up my experience at the hotel, I just want to mention that the person who restocked the minibar every day during our stay always forgot to bring us beer; we had to call reception to have them bring it up. 😡
Dear Catalonia Hotel Management,
I am writing to formally express my disappointment regarding our recent stay at Catalonia Playa Maroma.
Unfortunately, the number of issues we experienced throughout our stay made the overall experience extremely disappointing and far below what we expected, particularly considering the amount we paid.
The problems included the handling of our late check-out request, inconsistent information regarding the themed restaurant reservations, room allocation and guest registration issues, room service failures, insufficient towels and drinks, poor restaurant service, limited food options, weak entertainment, and the changes to the hotel’s street food concept.
As guests, we expect clear communication, organisation, consistency and, above all, a genuine willingness from the hotel staff to assist when problems arise. Unfortunately, this was not the experience we had.
We were a group of nine people, and one of the most frustrating situations was the booking of the themed restaurants. We were initially told that it was not possible to make a reservation for all nine people together and that we would have to go at separate times. However, later on, a reservation for the entire group was accepted. This inconsistency in the information provided was extremely disappointing and made us question the organisation and communication within the hotel.
I would also like to highlight that we have previously stayed at Catalonia Bayahibe, and the difference in the quality of service and overall guest experience is enormous. The service, attention to guests and quality we experienced in Bayahibe were on a completely different level. Unfortunately, Catalonia Playa Maroma was extremely disappointing in comparison.
Having stayed at another Catalonia property, we know what level of service can be provided by the brand. This is precisely why our experience at Playa Maroma was even more disappointing. We expected a similar standard of service and hospitality, but unfortunately, that was not our experience.
As guests, we expect clear communication, organisation, consistency and, above all, a genuine willingness from the hotel staff to assist when problems arise. Unfortunately, this was not the experience we had.
I would appreciate it if management could review all the issues described and provide us with an explanation regarding how these situations were handled.
I hope that our feedback will be taken seriously and that the hotel will take the necessary steps to improve the guest experience and prevent other guests from having a similar experience.
We chose Catalonia Playa Maroma expecting the quality and level of service associated with the Catalonia brand, especially based on our previous experience at Catalonia Bayahibe. Unfortunately, Playa Maroma fell considerably short of those expectations.
Great ambiance, variety of food and service!
I’d like to preface that we have stayed at approx 12 all inclusive ( Dominican , Mexico, Aruba , st croix ) good bad ugly. Good . Clean rooms , great beach staff . Tons and tons of sargassum , no fault of Catolonia . Room # 1 had badly leaking toilet all over floor , room # 2 Had no air conditioning .room 3# they demanded we go and stay back in room very very hard to communicate with front desk as they didn’t really seem to care . Food was decent . The bad .. the pool war 89 degrees ( ht bs start at about 100 hndred . Cold not be used . And was told no way of changing it . I’m at the resort as we speak , it’s 1:58 pm and there are 9 people in the main very large Pool. And nobody at the pool bar .which says a lot !! We are privileged and the which is suppose to be better liquor . They have no such thing . The resort is about 1/4 full so not sure why they couldn’t give us a room without toilet water on the floor and a view of 2 concrete wall . I will absolutly not be back and strongly suggest to my many all inclusive vacationing friend not to come either
