Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Alila has improved the experience in their premises after being Andaz, food is very good, service is very good, beach is great! and the rooms are really great decorated. I would suggest them to have a bigger hotel store with a better variety of things for home and clothing and more care at a very very nice pool that is near the Nu Restaurant.
I stay in a lot of hotels and most don’t do enough to earn a bad or a good review they are just so-so. This place is different- I loved it and so did all the family. We were given two Butlers (one off when the other is on), normally I find this a gimmick but here they were invaluable. They helped book trips, restaurants, nothing was too much for them - Alfonso and Gilberto take a bow. Then there was Montserrat on the front desk who I am sure did a lot more besides that, if I could I would have taken her back to the Uk and given her a job; my wife can be fussy so we changed rooms a lot on the first day or so but Montse had no problems with helping and was A++++. The rooms were great, clean, new and we heard no noise. It is a peaceful place and even my kids who are young boys were very happy. The waiters and waitresses were great, remembered you at breakfast and everything was easy as you want it to be when on holiday. I have had problems with the Hyatt as a group before (this is a Hyatt hotel) mainly with loyalty where your status should guarantee you a room with I think 72 hours notice but on two recent occasions they refused to honour their promise and indeed when I emailed them with specific dates and the hotels involved (Budapest and Mexico) I was ignored with no email response, so I am not a lover of the brand but I do love this hotel. Do not let the ownership group put you off this hotel, if you want to relax, see some nature, swim and not have the flotsam and jetsam of society thrown into your hotel when you are there, then stay at this place, you will certainly feel like you have had a rest. Breakfast is fantastic, food is good, people are nice, other guests all very easy and you will feel relaxed at the end of your stay and not wanting it to end - if a hotel can achieve this then they have done their job so so well. Thank you guys we loved it.
What a amazing experience, we got married here one of the best venue we ever experience the staff and the hotel beach was just amazing. They upgraded us to a Villa which was just such a amazing experience, we felt we found our Maldives replacement going forward. We love this Hotel and Staff!
Alila Mayakoba is heaven on earth, truly. I went with some friends to end our summer on a calmer note and I could not have picked a better destination. As soon as you arrive, you are greeted by warm, friendly faces and a refreshing drink. The check in process was seamless and we were met by our concierge, who were the nicest people. Our room was gorgeous and had a slight view of the lagoon, we loved that it was close to the lobby because we could walk instead of scheduling a cart pick up. The grounds are insanely beautiful, there is so much nature incorporated into this place and the energy is unreal. The complimentary experiences were wonderful and I'd recommend booking those. The restaurants available in the hotel and surrounding hotels are delicious, if you get anything, let it be the fish taco from ninguno taqueria by the pool. Overall, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to unwind and destress. Can not wait to go back!
Excellent stay — great service and an amazing beach
We had an excellent vacation at Alila Mayakoba and overall I would rate our experience 9/10.
The staff was definitely one of the highlights of our stay, especially Alan, who went above and beyond to make our trip special. They helped us arrange balloons and a birthday cake for my wife, organized transportation for us to another hotel for dinner, arranged for a boat to pick us up afterward, and were always checking in to make sure everything was going well.
We did have a couple of incidents during our stay. At one point we were without water for a few hours due to a technical issue, but the hotel responded immediately and resolved it. We also had a funny (and slightly unexpected) visit from a coati that got into our room and stole some food! There are actually signs on the doors warning guests that this can happen, so honestly, that one was partly our fault. 😄 What impressed me was how quickly and efficiently the staff handled both situations.
The hotel was quite empty during our stay, which probably helped with the level of personalized service, but it also made the whole experience feel very peaceful and private.
My main area for improvement would be the food and cocktails. Considering the prices, I expected the food to be a little better, and I think the cocktails could also have better presentation and execution. I also found the suggested 18% or higher tip a little uncomfortable. I personally left 15% throughout our stay, which felt appropriate to me.
That said, the beach was absolutely incredible. We had very little sargassum and there was a huge amount of sand compared with some of the other hotels in Mayakoba. It was one of the best parts of the trip.
Overall, we had a fantastic vacation. The service, the attention to detail, the peaceful atmosphere and especially the beach made this a memorable stay. The few problems we encountered were handled quickly and professionally, which ultimately says a lot about the quality of the staff.
Overall: 9/10. I would definitely come back.
