Our stay at Sea Dust Cancun was, overall, just okay. The check-in process was extremely long, although we eventually got through it.

We had two suite rooms booked. One was fine, but the other had a serious moisture and mould problem, which was very disappointing.

My son didn’t want his suite cleaned every day, but we asked reception on three separate occasions for the mini fridge to be restocked. Unfortunately, nothing was ever done. When we asked one evening, we were told mini bar service stopped at 10:00 pm. The following evening, when we went back at 9:30 pm, we were then told it actually stopped at 5:30 pm. The information was completely inconsistent.

We also requested bottled water for our rooms but were told someone had to be present to receive it. Two days later, bottles were simply left outside the room, again showing a lack of consistency.

Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, but some of the bar staff were incredibly rude. On one occasion, I politely asked why we were being treated differently when we had paid the same as everyone else. The bartender repeated my question to several Mexican guests at the bar, who then laughed at us, it was humiliating and unprofessional.

We also noticed different rules seemed to apply depending on nationality. Bar staff were happy to fill large cups and serve multiple drinks to local guests, but European guests were often refused or spoken to rudely if they asked for more than one drink.

The food was very mediocre. We struggled to find suitable meals for our daughter, who has food allergies. Thankfully, the restaurant staff were wonderful and often arranged for fresh food to be prepared for her, which we genuinely appreciated. However, there were no dairy-free or soya-based desserts available, only fruit.

The biggest disappointment came on departure day. We had booked a package that included access to all facilities, including food and drinks, until 3:00 pm. However, we were told the resort now ends all-inclusive access at 12:00 pm and that we would have to pay extra to eat before our 7:00 pm flight. Since our daughter has allergies, this wasn’t simply an inconvenience—it was essential that she had access to food. My OH had to argue our case in point out what was included in the package we had booked. After a lengthy discussion, they finally agreed to honour our booking.

The resort itself is nice, but the inconsistent service, poor communication, mouldy room, and disappointing customer service overshadowed the positives.

Would we return? Absolutely not.

Would we recommend Sea Dust Cancun to friends or family? Unfortunately, no. It was a disappointing end to what had otherwise been a lovely holiday.

Overall, we had a great stay at Seadust Cancun and felt it offered good value for the price. The biggest surprise was the food. For an all-inclusive resort, the quality was much better than expected, and there was a good variety of restaurants to choose from.

The downside was the restaurant service. Most of the waitstaff came across as unfriendly or somewhat condescending. At El Maguey, one waiter even told us that if we wanted faster service, we should eat at The Gallery buffet instead. Interestingly, in Samurai, the service improved after I left a good tip, and one of the servers started calling me "my friend” every time he saw me.

Be prepared for long dinner lines after 8:00 PM. The restaurants do not take regular reservations. The only way to skip the line is by purchasing premium menu items, such as lobster, porterhouse, or tomahawk steak, which come at an additional cost (the tomahawk was around $160–$170 USD).

We stayed in a Family Room, which comfortably fit all five of us. The room was not luxurious, but it was clean, comfortable, and a good value for the price. The included minibar was also regularly restocked, which was a nice bonus.

The pools were one of the highlights of our trip. They were warm, clean, and had plenty of food and drink options nearby, making them a great place to spend the day. We did not enjoy the beach as much because we visited during sargassum season, when seaweed washes ashore. This is a natural issue that affects many Cancun beaches and is not something the resort can control.

Travel Club Presentation Warning

My biggest advice for future guests is to stay away from the people from club infinity near the check-iClub Infinity near the check-in area in exchange of attending a presentation. We were approached with what sounded like a great offer: a VIP breakfast, a $150 USD discount on a tour. They did asked us a refundable 500 MXN deposit to make sure that we will show up on the following day for the presentation. We were told the presentation would only take 90 minutes—45 minutes for breakfast and 45 minutes for the presentation. However, it ended up taking almost three hours, including a room tour and a lengthy sales presentation for a vacation club membership. The representatives were very persistent and continued pressuring us to buy. The initial offer was around $14,000 USD down plus about $260 USD per month, and even after we politely declined several times, they kept coming back with lower-priced packages and high-pressure offers before eventually letting us leave.

Because of the discount they offered, we decided to cancel the tour we originally booked and switch to their recommended option. While we saved about $40 USD, the overall experience did not meet the same expectations as our original booking. The transportation was an older coach, and the air conditioning barely kept the bus cool, which made the ride uncomfortable, especially in the Cancun heat. During the return trip, rain started coming in through the roof, which made the journey even less enjoyable.

Another unexpected issue was the beverage package. We paid an additional $20 USD per person for drinks on the coach. However, when we arrived at one of the cenote destinations for the included lunch buffet, we were surprised to find that drinks were not included with the meal. If we wanted beverages during lunch, we had to pay extra again. It was disappointing because we assumed the beverage package would cover more than just the drinks provided during transportation.

Despite those issues, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. The food exceeded our expectations, the pools were excellent, and the room worked well for our family. If you plan ahead for the dinner lines and politely decline the travel club presentation, Seadust Cancun is still a solid all-inclusive resort that offers good value, especially for families.
