I last stayed in this hotel in August 2021 and liked it, especially the 30 meter swimming pool, so I decided to stay again for one night in a Club room on my way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi as I have the Titanium GHA Discovery membership status and was hoping for a nice upgrade which I eventually got thanks to Abdallah from the front office who impressed me with his friendliness and great customer service.
I went to Nomad Café on the ground floor for afternoon tea, available from 3-6pm. They had a separate section at the back for the executive lounge service. A friendly waiter called Amr brought me some mint lemonade then a wooden board with a selection of food on it. I met the supervisor Elsa who kindly showed me around the adjacent Benihana Japanese restaurant and explained the different dining options to me.
Later on I went for a swim in the pool and saw something I had never seen before in any of the many 5 star hotels I have stayed in during my trips to the Emirates - swimming pool handrail covers which all hotels should install so you don't burn your hands when climbing out of the pool.
Back in my room a competent housekeeper called Vinod came to remake my bed the way I like it.
I went back to Nomad Café for evening canapés from 6-8pm. Manisha brought my food board and kindly added a couple of extra items. Elsa brought me a last glass of Chardonnay later on just before closing. I went out of the hotel and turned left to have a look at the Irish pub McGettigan’s then went to the other side of the hotel to have a look at Rodeo Drive bar and restaurant where I discovered that Friday night was Ladies' Night with free prosecco up until 9pm. I was just on time to have a couple of glasses. It would have been nice if the hotel had informed me about it.
On Saturday morning I had a very nice breakfast in the Nomad Café served by Amr. I saw the hotel had nearly finished renovating a much larger space to open an all-day dining venue called Taste which I hope to try on my next visit.
Later on I went to the gym which is small but has everything you need for a good workout. They assured me that they had ordered a new screen for the seated bike which wasn't working and didn't have a sign on it so I was pedalling away trying to activate it. I had another swim in the pool and had a shower in the changing room there which could do with being renovated.
I went back to Nomad Café and was served very nicely by James and Elsa came over to chat when she came on duty.
Zubair came up to my suite to pick up my mountains of luggage which he had brought up when I arrived. He had the initiative to order a large taxi and packed all my stuff very neatly in the boot of the taxi.
Overall I had a great stay mainly thanks to the pool, the executive lounge and the friendly staff.
Thank you to everyone who made my stay so pleasant and I will definitely be back.
Regards. Margaret
