This 5-star beachside hotel at Wadduwa on Sri Lanka's west coast, south of Colombo, has a sublime setting in extensive palm-shaded grounds which lead directly onto a lovely beach. Providing a wonderful setting for a relaxing holiday it is an excellent base for exploration of the island's interior, nature reserves and game parks.
We had a lovely two-night stay at The Blue Waters Hotel, Wadduwa, with a family group of nine. Overall, everything about our stay was really good. The pool area was fantastic, and we made great use of the sports facilities—enjoying pickleball, squash, tennis, and the gym during our stay. A special shout-out to Anura for his friendly and attentive hospitality, which made our visit even better. The staff took good care of us throughout. A great spot for a relaxed family getaway!
A Truly Special Stay at The Blue Water, Wadduwa
The Blue Water is one of those rare places that makes you slow down, breathe deeply and simply enjoy being there.
The property is truly one of a kind, with its breathtaking ocean views, vast open spaces and beautiful architecture inspired by the unmistakable vision of Geoffrey Bawa. There is something incredibly soothing about the openness of the hotel — it is simply beautiful to look at and wonderfully relaxing.
And then there are the parakeets. Thousands of them fly in and perch on the coconut trees, filling the air with their beautiful, almost musical sounds. Watching them arrive and listening to their calls against the backdrop of the ocean is such a magical experience. It is one of those simple, natural moments that stays with you long after you leave.
We stayed in a Luxury Club Suite, which was tastefully furnished and had everything we needed. But the highlight for me was the balcony. Sitting there, watching the ocean, feeling the gentle breeze and doing absolutely nothing for hours was pure bliss.
The food was another highlight, with a thoughtfully curated selection of local and international cuisine. Dragon Boat Chinese Restaurant deserves a special mention — the Chinese food was exceptional. I would go as far as saying it is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have experienced.
But what really made our stay special was the service.
Having come from a service background myself, I am probably more discerning than most when it comes to customer service. I truly appreciate service that is warm, genuine and attentive — and the team at The Blue Water delivered exactly that. The staff were courteous, caring and genuinely interested in making our stay enjoyable. It is this kind of heartfelt hospitality that turns a good stay into a memorable one.
The Blue Water is perfect for a relaxing holiday or even a quick weekend escape. And being less than an hour from Colombo makes it all the more appealing.
A beautiful setting, wonderful architecture, exceptional food, outstanding hospitality, the most glorious ocean views — and thousands of parakeets providing the most delightful soundtrack.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back. Five stars from me!

My aunt and uncle recently stayed at The Blue Water Hotel to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary, and they had such a wonderful experience.
Everything was spot on from start to finish. The room was very clean and comfortable, the surroundings were beautiful, and the food was absolutely amazing. They really enjoyed their stay and felt very well looked after.
A special thank you to Kushani, the Front Office Manager, who provided exceptional service and was so helpful and welcoming throughout their stay. Her kindness and attention to detail made their anniversary celebration even more special.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and they came home with some very happy memories from their 40th anniversary. ❤️

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were amazing. The buffet offers all sorts of food catering to different needs and tastes.
The rooms are very well air conditioned so you won't stifle in the heat. We only experienced the swimming pool and none of the spa treatments.
The location is next to a beach and there you can book additional excursions. Our room was clean and tidy as well. Also if you are a cat lover they have a cat that also has kittens there as well.
