Jetwing Blue

Beautiful hotel with great buffet options, especially the local food - so tasty! Lovely service from Harshini, and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back again on our next trip!

The hotel was good, dated and need of an update but the staff were friendly and went out of their way to make us comfortable. This review is specifically for the spa facilities which were amazing! Tirta and Mita were so welcoming and did a number of treatments for my husband and I. All of which were to a high standard and we left feeling very relaxed and wishing we had more time to indulge further. If you have a young daughter, they also offer treatments for those under 13. Mine had her first spa experience and was over the moon. Thanks Tirta and Mita!

A lovely hotel for a final night near the airport

We stayed at Jetwing Blue as a family for our last night in Sri Lanka, as it is conveniently located for the airport. We had rooms 122 and 123 on the ground floor, both with lovely views over the gardens and beach. The rooms had an excellent position for watching the sunset — the views were beautiful.

One room had a king-size bed, while the second room, which accommodated three of us, also had a pull-out bed. We arrived just after 1pm, before the official 2pm check-in time. We were welcomed with cold towels and drinks, which was a lovely touch. One of our rooms was ready when we arrived and the second was available shortly afterwards.

The rooms are very spacious, with a large, extremely comfortable king-size bed, good-quality pillows and a sofa. The second room had the additional pull-out bed for the third person. There is also a TV and a chargeable minibar. Our ground-floor rooms opened directly onto the gardens, with the beach just beyond. There were wooden chairs and a small table outside, making it a lovely place to sit and enjoy the view.

The bathrooms are also very spacious and well equipped. They have glass windows looking into the bedroom, although blinds are provided for privacy. There is both a bath and a separate shower, along with a large vanity unit. The hotel provides an impressive range of toiletries, including shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, bath foam and bath salts, as well as toothbrushes and toothpaste, cotton buds and a shaving kit. There were plenty of shaving points, a good-sized mirror and a decent hairdryer.

There were lots of thoughtful extras in the room too, including bottled water, flip-flops for use around the hotel and pool, dressing gowns, a shoe-shine kit, iron and ironing board, and biscuits, which were a nice touch. The hotel also offers a turndown service, with sweets left in the room at night.

Although we were only staying for one night and didn’t have time to use all the facilities, the hotel has several swimming pools with plenty of sunbeds and towels available, as well as a spa.

The reception area is large and comfortable, with lots of sofas where you can sit and have a drink. We had drinks at the bar in the evening, which had an extensive menu and very reasonable prices. The cocktails were particularly good and very well made. The restaurant looked lovely, although we didn’t eat there during our stay.

The hotel also has a nice eco-friendly feel. Water is provided in glass bottles rather than plastic, there are recycling bins in the rooms and generally a lot of thought seems to have gone into reducing unnecessary plastic.

I would describe Jetwing Blue as a good 4-star hotel. I honestly don’t have any major complaints about our stay, but the rooms are starting to look a little tired in places. There were a few scuffs here and there and some of the bathroom sealant/caulking could do with refreshing. Nothing affected our stay or comfort, but a little updating and maintenance would bring the rooms up to the standard I would expect from a 5-star hotel.

There were just a couple of other negatives for us. Breakfast wasn’t included in our booking and, when I enquired, we were quoted $20 per person, which I felt was quite expensive. We also asked the hotel to arrange a taxi to the airport and were quoted $40 (around 13,000 LKR), whereas Uber was showing around 3,300 LKR. I completely understand that a hotel-arranged taxi may cost more, but this felt like a very significant mark-up.

Overall, though, we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel is spacious, comfortable, well maintained in the main, and in lovely beachfront setting. The staff were welcoming and there were lots of thoughtful touches in the rooms. It was a great choice for our final night in Sri Lanka, particularly because of its convenient location for the airport, and we would happily stay here again.
