When we were looking for a place to spend our first wedding anniversary, we found Paradise Sun Hotel and were immediately happy to book it due to the mostly positive reviews, facilities and photos of the resort.

When we checked in, we had a positive impression as we were offered a welcome drink, fresh towel and we were given an overview of the hotel and what we could do there.

However, problems started arising shortly after as we got to our room - a very nice, spacious room 1 which unfortunately was very run down, outdated and didn’t look like the amazing resort we had imagined from the pictures.

We then found out that drinks are not included at dinner - bear in mind, this was not mentioned on the Booking.com hotel page, in the booking process or afterwards in the chat with the hotel. We were offered a complimentary bottle of Prosecco which we were thankful for but this didn’t change our experience overall.

The breakfast and dinner buffet has a good variety of food but it’s not very tasty. However, what’s appalling is the quantity of insects on the food. It’s disgusting. From the fruit, fish, sauces, meat… insects are all over the place, and when we mentioned this to buffet staff, they were completely clueless.

The afternoon tea is a far cry from the actual afternoon tea as it’s missing sandwiches and generally only one out of five/six cake options is actually tasty and nice. The biscuits and pastries are stale, dry and full of insects. Disgusting. I got sick twice with vomit and diarrhoea after eating at the buffet and went to the local shop to buy some food instead.

The pool is missing tiles and is dangerous - both me and my wife got scratched while entering the pool and swimming.

The roof in the reception area is leaking and is completely ruined, it needs a proper refurbishment as it looks like it could collapse any time.

The benches, chairs and tables are all old, the cushions are smelly and have stains… even the pillows in our bedroom had some white substance on them. Gross.

The toilet has so many missing screws and is rusted in many points including the mirror, the shower, and the sink had a huge crack in the middle. The floor in the bedroom is also scratched and very run down.

The outdoor showers don’t work so if you want to wash after swimming in the sea or pool, you need to go to your room.

There is no security on the beach and anyone can walk in - meanwhile, the resort nearby has plenty of security guards and cameras to make tourists feel safe. I felt unsafe and didn’t feel comfortable leaving my stuff on the beach while going for a swim due to it being so open and with no security.

The lighting in the garden is very poor so you need to get a spotlight on your phone flash to walk around at night.

The WiFi doesn’t work well and constantly drops off so you need to log in again.

There is also some construction going on and potholes around the garden, so if you leave a child to run around, they could easily fall in and get hurt. 

Some of the staff are rude and don’t have the basic customer service skills or manners you would expect in a four-star hotel.

Around the hotel there is no system such as blue lights for insects so you just need to deal with them.

For over €1,200 plus €100 for laundry and tourism levy for a three-night stay, we were left completely disappointed and appalled. This is not a place for someone to stay and enjoy a special occasion like a honeymoon, anniversary or a first destination trip as you will be left heartbroken after paying so much. Bear in mind - this is the price we paid for low season, imagine what it’s going to be like at high season.

Beware of what you pay for - NIGHTMARE HOTEL

The main problem with this hotel is that it is overrated. Guests will arrive expecting a first class experience but it is far from that. We had a 10 night stay in the Seychelles which was fabulous overall. We spent the first 5 nights on Mahe at the Constance Ephelia. This resort was just outstanding in every way and exceeded our expectations. We booked through Audley Travel (who are also outstanding).  Audley rate Paradise Sun in the same category as Constance Ephelia for some reason but unfortunately, Paradise Sun is a world apart. I would rate this hotel a good 3 star/poor 4 star. 
We have no major complaints as such but everything was underwhelming. Staff were ok, some poorly trained, a few were excellent. John, who is in charge of water sports equipment and activities is fantastic and made our overall experience much better.
The evening food was average but of a decent standard. Breakfast had a good range  but in general the food quality was poor and the breakfast room is very bland and in need of a refit. The rooms had a good layout but are old and tired. Our son's bathroom had a drain smell issue which wasn't resolved during our stay. The grass area directly outside our rooms is poorly drained and very wet and  boggy after rain and there are no paths leading right up to the rooms. The pool is old, tired and has some tiles missing (I actually cut my elbow on the edge of a broken tile). The beach was quite nice but there are lots of stingrays so guests are frequently stung and have to go to the local hospital clinic. The Hotel grounds in front of the beach are poorly maintained with lots of areas of unfinished stones/rubble. The layout of the grounds in general is nice but the planting and borders in general are poorly maintained. On the upside, the dive centre is excellent and the hotel  atmosphere is very relaxed. The complimentary evening cruise was brilliant. During our stay it was fully booked so they arranged a second trip the following night so all guests could go. 

We hired a car and visited the Constance Lemuria resort. We had the most amazing welcome and a fantastic lunch there. We spent the rest of the day on the best beach in Praslin, Anse Georgette, which is just at the far end of the Constance Lemuria's golf course. I would stay here next time.

PARADISE ON EARTH

A very beautiful, simple, and authentic resort. Everyone is very kind. The true standout of the resort is John, a force of nature! The food is average. The location is perfect! 
The resort's beach in August has some seaweed, but it's very close to the most beautiful beaches on the island!

Paradise in Praslin

Great room overlooking the sea with fantastic confortable bed and pillows. Good quality food and excellent hotel team. the hotel structure though is old and need to be revamped to be a true 4 stars hotel. Also in august ( Seychelles winter) the beach and the sea are not clear and with lot of weeds.
Having said that, is located in Praslin that is a simply wonderful island where you can do a lot of experience and exploration.

Great Staff but need renovation to be a true 4 stars
