The Sugar Beach Hotel is set in palatial grounds in Wolmar, Mauritius. Enclosed in its own grove of palm trees, the Sugar Beach Hotel feels wonderfully removed from the rest of the word, but the thriving port of St Louis is close by. Beyond the manicured gardens the resort extends to the beach which boasts half a kilometre of perfect white sand.
There are lots of wonderful facilities to enjoy here including a fully-equipped fitness centre, tennis courts and some great opportunities for water sports and scuba diving.* There are also some great trails to explore through the trees and further out into the island - and you can hire bicycles* at the hotel to help you get about.
Access to the incredible spa, complete with Turkish bath (or hammam) is another perk of staying at the Sugar Beach Hotel. And another good reason to take things easy and go with the flow.
With four bars and three restaurants at the Sugar Beach Hotel, you'll want to leave plenty of time to relax and enjoy your meals too. From the genteel surroundings of the Citronella Café to the stylish pool-side surroundings of the Mon Plasir Bar, a week will just give you enough time to sample the delights of each. But why not stay longer?
You'll want plenty of time to enjoy your room. Standard Garden View are air conditioned and elegantly furnished with a balcony or terrace, rooms continue the plantation theme with use of real wood and complementary colours. All rooms are en suite and come with LCD flat-screen satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, safe and hairdryer. You could also choose to upgrade to a selection of beautiful rooms including those with a seaview or a beachfront room.
There's a lovely laidback feeling at the Sugar Beach Hotel. Perhaps it's the warm climate - people just want to relax and enjoy life here without all the usual hustle and bustle. Perhaps it's the look of the place. The palms, the architecture and the smart rooms all help suggest a slower pace of life.

Sugar Beach is located on the west coast of Mauritius near to the thriving town of Port Louis. Enjoying over half a kilometre of white sandy beach, the lush tropical gardens and contemporary plantation style architecture give this magnificent five star hotel a truly charming atmosphere.
We stayed here for the last few nights of our honeymoon.
We had high expectations for this luxury hotel based on reviews and photographs. However, it is best described as four-star surroundings, including a long beachfront, but with a three-star service.
The reception team didn't have knowledge of the advertised benefits for honeymooning couples, which were the reason we had selected the hotel, and we had to do a fair amount of chasing to receive these.
To give some examples of the service, at the cocktail masterclass that we had booked through the hotel in advance of our stay, the bar staff told us that they weren't sure what was involved, as they hadn't done one before, and proceeded to make their favourites rather than tailoring to our tastes.
Another example would be calling the restaurant to make an evening booking (we tried at different times of the day and couldn't get through), calling the reception team to see if they could help (they couldn't), then walking to the restaurant to make the booking and being told to come back later as the bookings manager, who we could see in the restaurant, was busy.
Unfortunately, we also were awoken by a mouse in our room on the first night, which left several droppings on the floor and made a mess in our suitcase. We changed rooms the next day to one closer to the adults-only pool, which was a more suitable position for honeymooning couples.
The management did take steps to rectify these issues by giving us the contact number of a Senior Manager if there were any further problems. upgrading our package, and giving us complimentary late checkout, which we appreciated. The massages at the spa were also very good.
Fantastic hotel and beach! I highly recommend it! And very good service, nice room and a lot of good restaurants!

Beautiful location, excellent facilities, very friendly and helpful staff and excellent food.
The only small complaint I had was that at breakfast it was unclear if staff should show you to a table (like at dinner) or whether it was just a free for all. It left you feeling a bit awkward, especially at busy times when tables were not that abundant. Other than that, a great stay.
We stayed at Sugar Beach for 10 days, and overall, we had a wonderful stay.
Although we had a small issue with our room on the first day, Stephen at reception was absolutely excellent. He listened to us and resolved the problem within minutes, making us feel well looked after.
The room service was outstanding throughout our stay. Our room, 605/606, was cleaned every day, with fresh towels provided daily. A big thank you to the housekeeping team for their excellent work.
Bruno from the restaurant deserves a special mention — he was simply the best! His service and attitude made our experience even more enjoyable. All the team did their very best to make us feel welcome and comfortable.
