Set in a lush oasis of palm trees, La Pirogue looks like a Mauritian fishing village. The distinctive cone-shaped, thatched roofs are clustered around the seashore at the edge of lush vegetation. This isn't a fishing village of course - it's an incredible 4 star hotel - and there's plenty of wonderfully fresh fish on offer in the superb restaurants.
You'll never be short of things to do at La Pirogue. The vast swimming pool is an absolute delight. Impeccably designed and fringed by palms, it is one of the hotel's biggest attractions.
The restaurants are high up that list too. From the beach bar to the main restaurant, the chefs and bartenders at La Pirogue work hard to give you a mouth-watering selection of food and drink. You'll enjoy lots of fresh ingredients and a great range of flavours. (And for even more choice, three additional restaurants are available to guests at the Sugar Beach Hotel.)
La Pirogue is well equipped for sports and fitness fans. Naturally, water sports are popular - and there are lots of opportunities for you to enjoy the wonderfully clean, warm water, whether you're a novice or a pro-scuba diver.
You can enjoy games from mini golf to volleyball - and there's a full fitness centre on site. We also recommend the spa - an essential ingredient of a truly relaxing Mauritius holiday.
One final but very important factor is your room. All Standard Garden View rooms (from August 2017 Garden Bungalows) are at ground level, with terraces leading straight out into the beautiful palm groves. There is full air conditioning and additional amenities include satellite TV, telephone, hairdryer, safe, mini bar and drinks making facilities. Room upgrades such as Beach Pavilions are also available at a supplement.
You'll never tire of the sight of that perfect white sandy beach, or the deep blue sea; La Pirogue really does enjoy a perfect secluded spot on the West coast of Mauritius.

Gourmets will be impressed by the culinary delights offered by the range of restaurants whilst sports enthusiasts will be kept busy with the numerous activities on offer.

We had a great time at La pirogue. The guests stay at individual bungalows which gives a free and detached feeling. We received a complimentary upgrade to a Deluxe bungalow. Water activities included free rental of Kayaks, SUPs and paddle boats as well as snorkeling trips. Food in the main restaurant was very good and changed every night. Rooms were clean and had everything you might need. And one thing about the beach: We drove around Mauritius quite a lot and we did not see a nicer beach anywhere. Two minor negatives: The reef is not what we expected. Most of the coral has died and only very few fish remained. So snorkeling is not like in Egypt. Also we are used to swimmers and motorboats being separated by corridors. Here they both use the same area. Nothing went danger close but it still gave me a strange feeling to have to watch out all the time.
We had a beautiful couple dinner at La Pirogue to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The entire evening was wonderful and all the staffs took great care of us in making the occasion even more special for us.

This is the 4th time i have been to La Pirogue we went there 26 years ago and for the last 3 years, this is a place to relax and to feel romantic couples that hardly speak find they are holding hands the little semi detached thatched cottages have everything you need, the staff are second to none, friendly helpful and most speak a little English this is a more casual place to the sister hotel Sugar beach next door which you can use there facilities, diving, fishing, spa tennis , gym, golf and many other things but if you want the real Mauritius La Pirogue fits the bill as for things to do there is a zip line which is 1.4 kilometres long with shorter ones that take you over waterfalls also quad biking and other amusements, I would advise you to hire a taxi and pay at each venue you got to as going through your travel agent is expensive , a trip to Port Louise on the local bus is about 70 p but if your expecting luxury buses forget it but its an experience we never miss, when in Port Louise visit the aquarium a little expensive but worth it, I hope this is helpful Carole and Robin
