This is what a holiday beach hotel should look like – the soft sand, the endless blue horizons and the wonderful tranquillity. The Lux Grand Gaube Hotel in Mauritius is the perfect island get-away. It's beautifully designed; you'll spot the local influences at once– the thatched roofs, the harmony with nature and the relaxing, laidback atmosphere. But there's inspiration from the Far East too – with influences from feng shui helping to make the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel one of the most relaxing places to stay in Mauritius.
Occupying a stunning location near the lovely fishing village of Grand Gaube on the north coast, the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel gives you everything you'd expect of the finest beach hotel. The wonders of Mauritius are all around you – the beach, the miles of unspoilt forests, and the breathtaking views at every turn. But there's more to Mauritius – this is a vibrant, welcoming island, full of colour and music, and it's all waiting for you to discover it.
So the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel is the best place to start. There really aren't any more spectacular settings. The hotel is bordered by no fewer than three beaches – and a beautiful big lagoon. Views extend out over the northern isles of Mauritius and there's something spectacular to see from almost every vantage point.
From your room you can look out over the sea or the magnificent countryside and just soak it all up. Sit out on your furnished balcony or terrace and watch the waves crash gently against the shore, or listen to the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. These are the sights and sounds you'll never want to forget. Superior rooms at Lux Grand Gaube Hotel are magnificent. They're all ensuite and air conditioned, and benefit from additional features including telephone, satellite TV, minibar, safe, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer and Wi-Fi internet access. Deluxe rooms and suites are also available at a supplement.
As well as all those beaches to explore, you'll have four swimming pools to choose from – and that tranquil lagoon. There is also an excellently equipped fitness centre and a relaxing spa. In fact you can play sports, or you can swim, or you can windsurf or do any number of things… Or you might just want to make every effort to relax like never before. This really is the place to do it.
To aid your relaxation and contentment, you won't have to look far for the perfect meal. The Lux Grand Gaube Hotel boasts an outstanding selection of restaurants. Again local and Far Eastern influences have a bearing on the cuisine, but there is such a wonderfully eclectic mix on offer, from the best local food to barbeques and lighter offerings.
It's no surprise the Lux Grand Gaube Hotel is one of the most romantic hotels in the world. This is a beautiful, serene and utterly beguiling place – a perfect synthesis of setting and ambience that will completely charm you.
Situated on the North Coast at Grand Gaube, Lux* Grand Gaube occupies an idyllic position only a few minutes away from a quiet fishing village. Designed with Feng Shui in mind the hotel radiates a tranquil ambiance. Offering stunning views of the northern isles of Mauritius and bordered by 3 beaches and a serene lagoon, it is no wonder this hotel was awarded Trip Advisor's most romantic hotel in the world in 2008.
We have stayed at some wonderful hotels around the world, but our experience at LUX* Gand Gaube makes for a genuinely unforgettable holiday and this is what makes us keep coming back. The setting is spectacular, the food is exceptional and the facilities are fantastic — but it is the warmth, personality and attentiveness of the staff that truly sets this place apart.
Every member of the team we encountered went above and beyond, and we would particularly like to recognise some very special people who made our family holiday, and a wedding blessing for our nearest and dearest, so incredibly memorable.
Diren deserves a very special mention. From helping us with the wedding blessing to being attentive throughout our entire stay, nothing was ever too much trouble. His attention to detail, calm professionalism and genuine warmth made such an important occasion even more special. He seemed to be everywhere we needed him, often before we even realised we needed anything!
Rhovin was fantastic in helping with the my sister in laws' wedding blessing and played an important part in making the day run so smoothly. His support and friendly approach were hugely appreciated.
Then there is the dynamic poolside trio — Amit, Mannev and Keshan. What a team! Endless smiles, incredible energy and an amazing ability to keep the kids entertained and happy. They brought so much fun to the pool every day and became a huge part of our family's holiday experience. Their enthusiasm seemed completely limitless — we're still trying to work out where they get the energy from!
Rishi deserves recognition for his incredibly swift and speedy service. Whatever we needed, he was somehow there in an instant. Efficient, friendly and always with a smile.
Sylvano and Sachin both deserve a huge thank you too. Fantastic service, great personality and clearly both know how to make a drink appear at precisely the right moment hot or cold!
And then there is Ashwin, the one and only! Ashwin was absolutely exceptional throughout our stay. Day and night, he consistently went the extra mile, remembering the little things, anticipating what we might need and adding those extra touches that turn a great holiday into a truly memorable one. His care and attention were remarkable, and he genuinely made us feel looked after throughout our entire stay.
Reedoo, Viresh and Liam provided fantastic service at the beachside. Always friendly, attentive and ready to help, they contributed enormously to those wonderfully relaxed days by the ocean.
At Studio 17, Elodie, Ainnee and Ryan were brilliant with the children. The junk art creations were a particular highlight and gave the kids something fun and creative to enjoy. Their enthusiasm and interaction with the children were fantastic — creating memories that will last long after the holiday is over.
And finally, but certainly not least, a huge thank you to Chefs Deepuck and Ramen for the endless supply of absolutely amazing food. Meal after meal, they delivered incredible quality, variety and flavour. We genuinely don't know how you manage to keep producing such wonderful food day after day — although our waistlines have certainly documented the evidence!
What makes LUX* so special is that these aren't simply people providing a service. They create experiences, memories and genuine connections. Every smile, every thoughtful gesture, every perfectly timed drink, every meal and every little extra touch added something special. Our family wedding blessing was incredibly special, our children had an amazing time, and as a family we have created memories that we will treasure for many years.
To Diren, Rhovin, Amit, Mannev, Keshan, Rishi, Sachin, Sylvano, Ashwin, Viresh, Reedoo, Liam, Elodie, Ainnee, Ryan, Deepuck and Ramen, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
We’ve just returned from a wonderful holiday at LUX* Grand Gaube and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The resort is as beautiful as it looks online, exceptionally well maintained and, above all, made special by its warm, attentive staff. Everyone was friendly, remembered us and was genuinely happy to help.
A special thank you to Veena, the “omelette queen”, who made breakfast so much fun; Kamal, who looked after our room beautifully; and Aniee and Gregory, whose art experience gave us a lovely mindful break and a wonderful souvenir. Maeva’s aqua classes were brilliant too—fun, energetic and something I wish I’d attended more often.
Beach Rouge was our favourite restaurant, and Doogesh and Giovanni looked after us wonderfully. Dining delicious food on the beach was a highlight. I also have severe food allergies, and the hotel took excellent care of me, even arranging a celebration chocolate cake made by one of the head chefs.
We enjoyed the glass-bottom boat trip, where we spotted turtles, and our older son had a fantastic scuba-diving experience with Russel and Rose. Taking the pedalo out on the lagoon was great fun too. The resort never felt crowded, with plenty of space and flexible activities. We recommend booking evening restaurants in advance.
The outdoor screening of Mamma Mia! with popcorn, under a full moon and star-filled sky, was magical. A trip to nearby Domaine de Labourdonnais was also well worth doing, with beautiful gardens, animals, giant tortoises and enjoyable rum, juice and jelly tastings.
Another lovely surprise was finding a hidden message in a bottle, which won me a treatment with Marie Pirouette. She was fantastic, both professionally and personally.
We visited in August and found the weather ideal: around 25–26°C with a gentle breeze, much more comfortable than extreme heat.
LUX* Grand Gaube has created something truly special. We’ll remember the beautiful setting, but especially the kindness and genuine happiness of the staff. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so memorable—we made wonderful family memories and really didn’t want to leave!
We hope to return one day. 🇲🇺❤️
Inti restaurant was an amazing experience especially with the guidance and the incredible hospitality from yaseer.. he made our experience unforgettable and memorable 💜 Special thanks to yasser and recardo 🙏🏻
The hotel positions itself as a five-star luxury property, but the actual level of service and infrastructure does not match the declared category. Staff demonstrated low motivation and slow response to our requests. The air conditioner in our kids room was not fixed promptly, despite repeated follow-ups. In the restaurant, the bill was issued twice with duplicated dishes, and the error was not corrected on the first attempt. Prices for food and services are high relative to quality. The menu is repetitive; the paid "filtered water" in reusable bottles is in fact regular tap water after filtration. The beach and parts of the infrastructure (pool, furniture) require updates and do not meet luxury standards. The cleaning in the room left much to be desired. Soap was not replenished until we moved it to a visible spot themselves. There are concerns about the security of belongings: my husband's shirt left on the beach was reported as "not found" at reception the next day. On the positive side, the tennis and paddle court is in good condition, but access is paid, as are all of the additional services. Overall, the service, infrastructure, and policy of extra charges do not correspond to the claimed status of a five-star luxury hotel.
My wife and I visited Mauritus in April of this year. It was heading towards the end of their Summer season and seemed like the perfect time to go. And we wasn't wrong! We drew up a list of 10 luxury based hotels and ended up choosing the Lux* Grand Gaube, located at the northern end of the island. We chose the Junior Wellness Suite, which was nestled away towards the adult's only pool and beach area.
The vibe here truly is based around peace and tranquility. No swim up bars. No happy hours with thunderous trashy music. No loud zumba or beach ball events. Just an utter break from the noise and stresses of life. I was so relaxed that even listening to my podcasts or reading my book was a chore!
If you're a foodie ..... look no further! The A La Carte restaurants had been beautifully designed to have their own unique individual environments. The menus were filled with fresh fish, meats, salads and vegetables. From stonbaked pizza's on the beach, to a lamb kofta overlooking the bay, to Mauritian local cuisines served in a mini forrest .... this. place had it all! And please, let's not write off the buffet service and menu! By far, one of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had at a property. How many hotels do you know have a real tandoor on site, cooking tandoori king prawns, chicken tikka's, lamb kebabs and hand made naan's? In a buffet? Forget about it! From beautiful salads, to freshly made pasta's, to handmade deserts, the restaurant was a pleasure to dine in (and on more than one occasion may I add!). The evening entertainment was uplifting, classy and well engaging. From a solo performer singing your favourite Al Green track to dancers performing traditional arts, it was really a great way to unwind after dinner with a drink!
Our room quickly felt like home after the first night. A great sized bathroom, TV with so much choice when settling for bed or relaxing, full of amenities, dual sinks and a shower for four! But the highlight of our room was the balcony overlooking the water as it entered the cove. Sat there watching the sunset with a cold beer and listening to the sounds of the wildlife, was enough to know we'd be back! The rooms were kept beautifully everyday and they were at our beck and call anytime we needed anything.
We truly miss this hotel and its people. People being staff. They made us feel like family and we were so sad to leave. My wife is always ready to go home after a 7 night trip, but this was the first time she said "I could stay another few days". We've already decided to go back perhaps in 2028 for 10 nights and I truly cannot wait to see my new friends again!
Huge thank you to Niantso and Malcom who take care of us at the beach everyday. And a huge thank you to Jason, Sandeep and Elena. These were just a handful of people who made our stay such a memorable one!
