When to go

Mauritius has a tropical climate, with moderately high temperatures and humidity all year around. Although they reach the mid-30s, temperatures never rise to such high levels that they become unbearable. The wettest period is from January to March and during these months cyclones may pass nearby giving occasional heavy rain/wind. May to November is much drier.

Beaches

Trou d’eau Douce Beach, while small, has soft sand and calm waters perfect for swimming in. It is also the best place to watch the catamarans and boats sail by. There are coral reefs about a kilometre offshore, so the waters are less calm to swim there.

Palmar Beach is a small, sleepy beach with only a few patches of sand to enjoy. It does, however, have a stunning view of the Indian Ocean. Not somewhere to spend a day but worth a trip just for the views.

More beaches can be found up the coast towards Poste Lafayette.

Culture

Settlers arrived in Trou d’eau Douce in the 17th century, so it is full of history. Some of the historical sites and buildings can still be found today. A time old tradition always carried out is that of fishing, you can see local fishermen go to work from the beach each morning.
