Sunny days are the norm in Mauritius, and one of the best ways to spend another day under a clear blue sky is to laze in or by the blue lagoon. It's a wonderful spot – and it really emphasises that special kind of excitement that comes of being on a tropical holiday. The perfect sand and blue sea are hard to resist – and we do recommend the scuba diving if you get the chance. But, this being Mauritius, there's a real variety in the landscape and a few miles from the beach you can go exploring in the beautiful forest reserve.

I had a terrible experience. I booked through Travelocity a package deal, flight and hotel. But since my girlfriend travelled from a different airport, we were on two Travelocity itineraries. Since they were not connected, their data said 'one guest' and, Jalsa hotel insisted only one of us could stay in the room. Instead of trying to understand the logistics of booking two tickets from different destinations through Travelocity, the hotel did not allow my girlfriend in because of this - Nilesh raj and other people at the reception were rude, said they were not allowed to provide their last names, and instead of accomodating guests coming in from different continents and realizing the mutual benefit of (in their mind) an additional guest paying for meals etc, they insisted she needed to get a separate room. It was a harsh welcome, that ended with threats. Unbelivable to treat prospective guests this way. We saw no option but to check out. There was no refund, but not only that, when we came by later to seek a sweater left in the room, we were no allowed to enter OUR room because it was rented out to others -- yet, it was still reserved on my name. Very unfriendly and unprofessional staff, in a hotel that looked dated and had few guests. After 35 years of world travel I have never experienced anything like it--most sincerely, Dr. Ingi Agnarsson.
Omg this place was amazing down to the really nice welcome when we arrived. Janishsta was fantastic catering to our every need and making our stay memorable. If you like a quiet relaxing holiday then this hotel is for you the views are fantastic. There is not a large beach and it is not deep when the tide comes in you can walk out and swim. The rooms were spacious with large beds and lovely size balcony that you can sit on if an evening and chill. It was great value for money loved the food different themes every night. Manisha one of the bar staff was so helpful and we became good friend during stay. When we left it was nice to go round to everybody they made us feel like we were part of their family.
Location is beautiful, with lovely beach walks nearby.The rooms are very spacious and clean . It's a small hotel with amazing friendly staff always smiling and happy to help. They have excellent buffet choices with a different menu every night, they have something for everyone,but if you want something different they are happy to help . Management also are very friendly and always check that you are happy. I went with my husband met lots of lovely people and would definitely recommend. Great value for money too.
This was my destination not only for my 1st long haul but also 1st solo travel, I was really impressed with the hotel, the rooms were spacious and clean, and serviced daily. Food was fabulous fresh and a good variety each day. Jennii was amazing she helped arrange for my room to be changed due to my own health issue and my stupidity in not requesting a ground floor room. This was done within 4 hours of me mentioning I was struggling with the stairs. The lady in the Spa gave exceptional service and I felt really comfortable. There were watersports on site and fishing and the staff are happy to help arrange any outing you may be interested in. Amazing time, fabulous staff, and hotel can highly recommend.
A good stay with plenty of potential for improvement
We recently stayed at the hotel and overall had a good holiday. The staff were kind, friendly and welcoming, and there are definitely many positive things about the hotel.
However, we also feel that there is quite a lot of potential that is currently not being fully utilised.
The rooms are large and spacious, which is a great advantage, but they are not particularly well designed or practical. We missed having somewhere to put our suitcases. A proper luggage bench would have made a big difference, rather than having to leave our luggage on the floor. There was a wardrobe, but with only five hangers per person, that was not really enough for two guests.
The bathroom had clearly seen better days. The shower was leaking, causing water to run onto the other side, and the shower had not been properly descaled before our arrival. More attention to maintenance and cleaning would make a noticeable difference. Unfortunately, the general level of cleanliness was also not quite what we would expect.
The hotel was also very poorly soundproofed. We could hear the alarm clock from the room next door, and on several occasions we were woken during the night by barking dogs. One night, we eventually called reception and asked them to do something about the noise. They did respond, which we appreciated, but it made us wonder why this was only addressed after a guest had become frustrated enough to call.
The food was okay and there was some variation throughout the week, but we did not feel that we experienced as much authentic Mauritian cuisine as we had hoped for. Much of the food was quite heavily Indian-inspired. It was generally tasty, but the flavours became somewhat repetitive. At one point during our stay, the food seemed to change and not for the better. The selection was noticeably more limited, particularly at breakfast and afternoon tea. It almost felt as though there had been a change in the kitchen, with a different approach and perhaps less attention to detail. This was a shame, as the food had been better earlier in our stay.
The pool and beach area were definitely among the highlights. It was beautiful, peaceful and very relaxing. However, we feel that the service around the pool could be significantly improved. Although the staff were very friendly, we missed the feeling of being genuinely looked after. It would have made a huge difference to have someone walking around occasionally, checking on guests and offering drinks or other refreshments. At the moment, everything has to be ordered at the pool bar and carried back to your own sun lounger. There is also a great opportunity to elevate the drinks offering. In such beautiful surroundings, why not make the experience feel a little more special? Fresh coconuts, for example, or a beautifully presented Piña Colada served in a nice glass with a small umbrella and a piece of pineapple would instantly create a much more memorable holiday atmosphere. These small touches could make a surprisingly big difference to the overall experience. As someone who works in the hotel and restaurant industry myself, it is difficult not to notice all the small things that could make a significant difference to the guest experience.
The hotel genuinely has a lot of potential, but we feel that much of it is currently being missed.
One of the absolute highlights of our stay, however, was meeting Jeni. She is an exceptional example of what true hospitality should be. She is incredibly service-minded, takes responsibility, genuinely cares about her guests and takes pride in helping wherever she can. Her dedication and warmth really stood out to us, and she deserves a great deal of recognition for the person she is and the way she represents the hotel. We can honestly say that our holiday would not have been the same without her. She made us feel seen, welcomed and genuinely cared for, and she was by far one of the most memorable parts of our stay.
Overall, we had a good holiday and enjoyed our time at the hotel, but there is definitely room for improvement.
The hotel has beautiful surroundings, spacious rooms and lovely staff — with a little more attention to maintenance, cleanliness, food quality and, especially, personalised service, it could become a truly special place to stay.
