Garcia Resort and Spa

The hotel is set in the middle of nowhere, up a mountain and requires a taxi or bus to leave the complex if you aren't a strong walker. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is laid back and the staff are mostly friendly and as helpful as possible. Rooms are mostly clean but lack attention to detail. Areas like bathrooms are generally run down and need updating. Attention needs to be paid to cleaning the books and crannys, otherwise generally they are ok. The food is plentiful, and has several options. However it is heavily fish and meat based so vegetarian guests may struggle as labelling food isn't consistent and it's sometimes hard to figure out ex what's in a dish. Don't expect a fry up for breakfast, think more salads, boiled eggs and savoury pastries. Drinks are plentiful and there is lots of options. There is a lot of different cultures being catered for under 1 roof, and British most definitely isn't the top of the list, so if that's what you're looking for you'll struggle. The entertainment team are lovely and make themselves known and engage frequently. Throughout the day there is multiple activities if you wish to engage, but zero pre. There is shows of some sort most evenings, even if they are short the atmosphere is laid back and it's generally a pleasant evening. This hotel isn't great if you have mobility issues. It's over multiple floors and layers due to it's location, and although there's always staff lifts available as an alternative the regular lifts break down multiple times in a day. Access to the pool for a disabled person is impossible. It's narrow metal steps into deep water. A wheelchair will be weakened by slight marble steps on virtually every area. There is on occasions a slight smell of drains, and it isn't pleasant but mostly can be ignored. If you are prone to bug bites, bring protection, the little blighters are everywhere!! All in all you get a lot for your money and it's worth it if you are ok with these things.

Location - excellent in close distance to 3 towns and great views

Atmosphere - Poor, there were several guests upset about the condition of the hotel and or service and during our 10 days 3 or more arguments in the hotel. Some staff were excellent some not so much!

Rooms - Poor, NOT 5 star  Flush in the toilet didn’t work correctly, water continued to run after flush, was shown how to ‘’fix’’ this when signing into our room  Black Mold in the bathroom, ingrained in most of the grout.  Cigarette burns on the balcony furniture  Rubbish from previous guest under the bed  Hairdryer wires were taped up with duck tape  Towels were old, some ripped and with stains

Hotel in general - Health and Safety Hazard!  The drain covers around the pool continually lifted up, leaving large gaps that people could fall down, and creating a trip hazard, which countless people did trip on during the duration we were there  Unsuitable tiles around the pool, they were not pool non-slip and my son fell twice as did many other guests. Excess water was not cleared and the tiles got very wet and extremely slippery  The irrigation broke on one occasion, flooding the plant display and adding extra water to the already slippery tiles, we reported and nothing was done until the following day  Drink cups were not cleared regularly throughout the day, or floors cleaned, meaning the sun loungers were often surrounded with spilt drink and ants or excess left over drink cups.  The photos used on ‘on the beach’ are not a true reflection of the hotel and must be several years old, the hotel is now very tired and run down.  There were broken railings on the dance floor that small children could easily slip through (these were left open until an inspection of the hotel took place on our last day and they were then fixed!)  Smoking rules – there were none or they were not implemented as everyone just smoked anywhere, in rooms and anywhere around the pool including the snack eating area.  There were several times throughout the holiday where the electrics cut out for short periods in the hotel room.  The games room was often littered with rubbish, and sofa areas had spilt drink on them  Several chairs around the pool area were broken, plastic snapped or wooden slats missing  Some of the pool ladders are extremely loose, one so badly that the tiles lift and the ladder bends as people are getting in and out.  The banister on the spiral staircase was loose/broken (internal towards the dinner hall)  Several steps to the pool area were missing big chunks out of them which meant walking up and down the stairs was very dangerous.  Multiple sun umbrellas were broken

The Gym –  There were three treadmills only 1 worked  4 weight machines – only 2 worked  Cross trainer – that again did not work.  The equipment was old and those that were broken were dangerous so need to be fixed, replaced or removed!

In general, the hotel is massively worn and in need of some serious TLC! I would also add that through out the duration of our stay everything seemed substandard and to make this worse on our last full day (04/09/2026) it was evident that an inspection of some sort was taking place at the hotel, they had assigned fair more staff in and around the hotel than there had been on any other day. We saw the inspector ourselves being shown around the hotel! On this day:  More staff were allocated in and around the hotel  The poolside staff side made regular trips around the areas keeping them clean and tidy which hadn’t been the case all week!  The restaurant area had additional staff going around, cleaning up spilt food, closing heat lids which hadn’t been happening all week. There were also display items of pasta boxes etc for decoration that had been put out that hadn’t been there previously.  The railings were fixed last thing at night the evening before inspection  Caution tape was put up on the banister The change is behaviour/standards on the day of inspection verses the rest of the week was extremely frustrating as it showed the hotel clearly knows what standards should be but just don’t bother!

One of the best hotels I have stayed out, the staff are absolutely amazing. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do and go out of there way to make your stay great. Rooms are nice and the food is pretty good. 24 hour bar, taxi into the town etc is £3. Special mention to the lovely girl on night reception who went out of our way to get us food when we got in late on our first day. The bar staff and the dj are just amazing! Oh and the views… it’s breath taking!
