Gunes Hotel

This was our fifth visit to Gunes over eight years, and it hasn’t changed at all. It is a basic hotel, and you get what you pay for. It is excellent value for money in unparalleled position on sea front, quite adequate breakfasts (for Turkey) albeit 100% repetitive. Staff are helpful and pool is lovely. Cleanliness of rooms is a bit hit and miss - our first room (the room we wanted was not available on arrival) was not cleaned or touched for full three days yet when we changed rooms, it was fully serviced each day. I would strongly recommend a corner sea view room, not one set back from front or overlooking the pool which are a lot smaller and look to be dark inside. Only minus points were the noise at night from the hotel next door. Being end of April it was very cool at night, and one single cotton sheet was not adequate bedding although we did manage to obtain a duvet, hot water at night is very limited so we learned to have a shower no later than 5pm. Kettles have never been provided, but on our last night a kettle appeared! One major point missing for us is that there is no comfortable outside seating or sitting area. Other than sun beds round the pool (we don’t do sunbeds or pool) and upright dining chairs and tables at the bar and breakfast area - that’s it. Nowhere to relax in comfort to read that holiday book - hence why we go for a front seat view room with large corner balcony. Even the one wooden swing seat is now missing its cushion, and is permanently in the shade! Everyone at the hotel seemed to be repeat guests age 65 plus although I imagine in more summer months this might differ. Would we stay there again? At the moment, doubtful - nothing to do with Gunes, but Calis is just not what it was even eight years ago. It’s lost its ‘rustic’ charm to us. Otherwise, can recommend this hotel so long as you don’t expect luxury - price reflects. Enjoy!

We had read all the reviews before booking Gunes and i can say we were not disappointed. 11 of us stayed for 1 week but wished it was longer and we all agree what a lovely hotel right in the center of the promenade this is. Some of our group had stayed in Calis 2 to 3 times before at Jiva Beach and while Gunes is not Jiva beach for a hotel with bed and breakfast and a very relaxed, clean and friendly atmosphere it will take some beating. Our rooms were well maintained, cleaned daily including towels and the Turkish breakfast had something for everyone from Cereal to Meats and olives and omelets and fried eggs. The staff were all helpful, polit and friendly and are always available 24 hours if needed. I honestly cant say anything negative about this place and could go on and on and will stay again next year. While all staff were great there is one member who makes your time there so much fun and thats Oktay AKA Rambo who is always smiling and full of beans and runs the bar. Nothing is too much trouble for him and we all had a great laugh together and he looked after not just us but everyone in the bar and left us with great memories as well as a friendship and we cant wait to go back to say hello next year to everyone at Gunes.

Spot on, great location, hotel clean and tidy, towels and beds made everyday. Shower was amazing! Breakfast had something for everyone. All staff were friendly, and polite! Especially Rambo! And the bar, would go out of his way for all the guests! Would definitely come back! Group of 11 of us, and we all loved our stay.
