Disappointing - moved after 2 nights

We travelled to Sami Beach as a couple in October 2025, and unfortunately the hotel was so disappointing that after just two nights we asked our Jet2 rep to move us to another hotel. The food was probably the biggest issue. We found the quality extremely poor and there was very little that we actually wanted to eat. The cocktails were also very disappointing, some were genuinely awful and certainly not what you'd expect from a supposedly decent hotel. The rooms are very tired and desperately need updating. The beds were unbelievably uncomfortable, honestly, they felt like sleeping on park benches. After two nights we were more than ready to leave. The one and only real highlight of Sami Beach was the tortoise garden, which was actually lovely and probably the most enjoyable part of our stay! Thankfully, Jet2 were fantastic and managed to move us to Selectum Colours, which completely changed our holiday. The difference was night and day. The Selectum was lovely, and we were so relieved to have somewhere comfortable and enjoyable to spend the rest of our trip. Unfortunately, based on our experience, we couldn't recommend Sami Beach. We went away expecting a relaxing holiday and instead spent the first two days wondering how quickly we could get out of there. Thankfully, moving hotels meant the rest of our holiday could actually be enjoyed.

I do not recommend this hotel to anyone!

When we arrived late at night, at around 2:00 am, we were greeted by two men at reception who checked us in but did not offer us anything to eat or drink, even though our holiday had officially started the previous day.

One of the staff members offered to carry our luggage and show us to our room. It turned out that the room was located on the other side of a very busy road. Even at 2:00 am there was heavy traffic. Behind a shabby gate with a keypad was our ground-floor room, with bars on the windows and a view of a wall. The room itself was in a terrible condition. The staff member walking with us told us that the hotel was fully booked, but that the room had “very good air conditioning”.

We were extremely disappointed and exhausted, so we decided to get some sleep and deal with the situation in the morning. However, after getting into bed together with our son, who was too frightened to sleep on his own, none of us could fall asleep. The whole place felt like something out of a horror film. Our son was terrified, and the bars on the windows made us feel trapped and claustrophobic.

I eventually went back to reception and demanded that they move us to another room because the situation was completely unacceptable. I was told that the hotel was fully booked, they were sorry, and that nothing could be done until the morning when I could speak to the manager.

After a terrible night’s sleep, all three of us on what barely resembled a mattress, we went back to reception and asked to speak to the manager and requested a different room. Communication had to be done through Google Translate because the staff did not speak English. The receptionist did not bring the manager out. Instead, she went to the back office, returned, and told us that they were sorry but there were no rooms available. She also claimed that we had booked a room with a ankes and that all rooms with aneks were located in that part of the hotel.

I have no idea what Sami Beach Hotel considers to be a aneks, but it certainly isn’t what every other hotel would call one.

At that point I showed the receptionist photos of the room and made it clear that we would not stay there. She took my phone to show the pictures to the manager. Only then did the manager finally come out. He said there were no available rooms in the main hotel building, but offered us another room that could be reached via a bridge over the main road instead of crossing it.

We were shown the new room. The route led across the bridge connecting the buildings, then up some very old, steep stairs to the top floor. The biggest advantage of this room was the sea view. It was better than the previous one, but it was still nowhere near the standard you would expect from a 4-star hotel, or even a decent 3-star hotel.

On our very first day in the new room we had to report that there was no water at all.

The rest of the holiday was acceptable, but the overall experience remained very disappointing.

I had the impression that the hotel mainly catered for local guests, particularly groups of local men. The food was of a very poor standard. It was virtually the same every day throughout the week. Fish was served only once, and it was just some very poor-quality sea bream cut into small fried pieces. The fruit was often far from fresh.

Tables were very often reserved for local guests.

Around the pool, some of the local guests, especially groups of men, behaved in an arrogant and inconsiderate manner.

The dinner we had booked in the hotel’s à la carte restaurant was also very disappointing. We were served exactly the same food that had already been available in the main restaurant at lunchtime.

The entertainment was very poor unless you were from Turkey. It felt as though everything was organised purely for local guests rather than international visitors.

I could write much more about my disappointment, but I think this is enough to warn others about this hotel.

Considering this was by no means a cheap holiday, I will definitely be seeking a full refund and pursuing a formal complaint.

Do not believe the reviews of photos for this hotel!

We booked this hotel after our last one got cancelled a few months before we were due to travel. We booked the holiday through Jet 2. Firstly do not believe the photos that you see on any website about this hotel, talk about artistic licence! I would like to see where the bedrooms are in this hotel that are shown on the photos as we were put into two and not one looked like the ones in the photos. We arrived late on the Sunday evening after travelling all day to be met by two incompetent young guys on the reception that were only interested in taking your cases so they could get a tip. We were offered no food, not even a bottle of water. We were given our rooms key and that was it, no mention on what times the meals were, where anything was etc. We went to our room that was supposed to house 3 adults for 7 nights. The room was so small two adults could not pass one another whilst in the room. The balcony, well if you could call it that had two tiny wooden chairs and a tiny wooden table on it, to get onto the balcony you would have had to stand on one of the chairs or take one away. We asked to be moved immediately, we were told that nothing could be done until morning when the manager came back on shift. We went back in the morning after a very stressful night, not being able to unpack and then discovering there were no towels. We went back in the morning to speak to the manager to be told we had to come back at 9.30am. We went back again at 9.30am to be told that there was nothing they could do until 1.30pm. At this point we felt that someone was having a good joke on our behalf. Luckily we bumped into the house keeping manager on our way back to our room who was extremely helpful and got us moved to a bigger room. The room we were moved to was bigger but no better than the first one, there was a bath in the living space, why we're not sure?? The balcony was bigger but very narrow, two people could not pass one another. Curtains were hanging off the rails, the list goes on. We were tired and fed up with not being able to start our holiday so accepted the room. Within 24hrs the air conditioning unit leaked water all over, the fixing of said unit was a joke and that bad we had to film it. Then the hotel staff were cutting branches from the palm trees that were outside our room by leaning over from the roof with a long stick with a very sharp knife attached to it. We had not been told of this and could not use the balcony. We had to laugh has by this stage the hotel was more like faulty towers. The food was ok if you could actually get any or get sat in the restaurant. The restaurant was supposed to close at 9pm, we witnessed on more than one occasion food being cleared away at 8.40pm. You could not get sat in the bar area unless you didn't go for evening meal as there were not enough seats for everyone, this was a common theme with this hotel. It felt there were more people in the hotel than there were facilities. 49 sunbeds around the pool. Yes my friend did count them. The noise levels were really bad and very stressful, turkish and russian holiday makers watching their phones on full volume, listening to music on full volume, no respect for anyone else. it was the same when any food was put out, fresh fruit would be gone within minutes of the dinning room being open, when pastries were put out late afternoon people were just pilling their plates high and then witnessing so much waste. If you were hoping for a sunbed around the pool you had to be up at 6.30am and the beach wasn't much better. By the third day of our holiday we had all had enough. We had gone AI but had spent so much having to eat out and spend the day at a neighbouring hotel, which we did ask if they had any availability as we were willing to move we were that unhappy. We complained to Jet 2 as we felt that having this hotel on their website mislead customers. After this everything changed, we had reserved sunbeds, hotel managers asking if we were ok and could they help in any way. We got told that we could eat in the ala carte restaurant that apparently is free for customers who are staying 7 nights on AI. You don't get told this when checking in, neither do you get told that they supply towels for the beach/pool. It shouldn't take customers complaining for the hotel to realise simple things that make someone's holiday. there were lots more things and I could continue but I think you have the point of this review. I have been holidaying in Turkey for nearly 30 years and never once have I had to complain, I have never stayed at a hotel that I didn't feel comfortable being on my own until this holiday. We shall be going elsewhere for a few years as it has put us off. I have taken this further with Jet 2. Just don't want anyone to make the same mistake as we did. We all found this holiday very stressful and not the relaxing break that we had hoped for. The holiday wasn't cheap either.

An incredible vacation! Sami Beach Hotel made me fall in love with Bodrum forever ❤️

Sami Beach Hotel in Gümbet has an absolutely perfect location! On one side, there is a cozy beach with a shallow, comfortable entrance to the sea and free sun loungers. The only minor downside is that there is no shower right on the beach, so you have to walk over to the pool to rinse off, but that is really no big deal. On the other side, the moment you step out of the reception, you find yourself right on Gümbet's bustling tourist street, packed with shops, restaurants, and famous clubs. After 10:00 PM, this street truly comes alive, and bars stay open almost until morning! The locals are incredibly friendly and outgoing, and shopping turns into a fun game since bargaining is an absolute must here! 😉 The food at the hotel is fantastic and very delicious. While the menu can be a bit repetitive, staying hungry is simply impossible — they feed you literally at every turn. I was pleasantly surprised that they even serve a traditional night soup at 11:00 PM for those who get hungry after their evening walks. A great indicator of their excellent service is that many Turkish people choose to vacation here as well. Even though not all staff members speak English, they are highly customer-oriented. They go out of their way to help, solve any issue, or give good advice. The hotel itself and nearby tour guides offer plenty of interesting excursions. There are countless sights to see around, though I didn't even have time to check them out this time because the trip was already so action-packed.You can catch a local minibus (dolmuş) to the center of Bodrum for just 1 Euro. The drivers are incredibly sweet and will always tell you exactly where to get off. On your way back, every passerby is ready to help you find your way — you just need to mention the name of your hotel. The hotel itself is on the older side and could use some cosmetic renovations in a few areas (especially the public restrooms), but because of the amazing atmosphere, service, and emotions, I am giving it a maximum 5-star rating! I have always loved Greece, but now I have truly fallen in love with Bodrum and will definitely return to Sami Beach Hotel again! 🇹🇷✨
