Castival Hotel

Overall, we had a good holiday, but unfortunately the hotel fell short.

Our original room had a very strong smell of sewage. However, reception were excellent and moved us to another room the following day. The cleaning was okay.

You needed to be up around 6:30 to secure a sun lounger around the pool. However most of the loungers were left empty with the umbrellas up for the majority of the day, despite people getting up early to reserve them. Many of the loungers also went into the shade between 3pm and 4:30pm. The water slides were frequently taped off during our stay as well.

The staff were generally excellent. The gentleman serving drinks on rollerblades was particularly friendly and really made our stay. The bar staff were also great, despite the long queues. The beach was only a short walk away and had plenty of sun loungers available. The pancakes were also fantastic!

There was a good range of options at breakfast, and the snack bar was also good. However, we struggled with lunch and dinner as the food was repetitive. The queues for waffles and ice cream were also around 20 minutes most days.

The evening entertainment was probably the biggest disappointment. Although the decorations were fantastic, most evenings consisted of a “party” which was usually very quiet and lacked atmosphere. We ended up spending most of our evenings in the cocktail bar.

The hotel was mainly German and Turkish guests. We found that people often pushed in at the bar and when getting food. The shops outside the report all spoke in German also so be prepared to google translate when buying and take euros to pay.

The Italian à la carte restaurant was the highlight of the trip. We enjoyed a fantastic five-course meal and, honestly, it was the only properly hot meal we had all holiday! The staff were incredible, our drinks were always topped up, and everyone was genuinely lovely.

Side old town was €1.50 each one way on the bus and defiantly worth a visit. On get your guide there is a pirate ship trip for £12 pp unlimited soft drinks, lunch and transfer to dolphin island and a fresh water river which was brilliant.

Overall, we enjoyed our holiday and made some great memories, but we would not return to this hotel. It did not live up to the advertised 5-star standard and fell short more often than it impressed.
