This hotel in Alanya is set in lush gardens and has a private beach on the Mediterranean Sea. Located by a bay with a long, sandy beach which gently slopes into the sea, it is a short walk from the centre of Avsallar, where guests will find shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. There are public transportation links a few steps from the hotel, to take guests to the popular resort of Alanya with its many attractions, such as Alanya Castle and Damlatas Caves.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We were there at the end of June and came back extremely satisfied. We had a superior swim-up room with a pool and a terrace, which we really enjoyed. Overall, the hotel and gardens were clean and well-maintained. Our room was cleaned every day. The food was excellent, and there was a selection of several dishes to choose from every day. The same goes for the desserts. The beach was clean, and we had no trouble finding sun loungers—there were always some available. The hotel staff were accommodating and friendly. I recommend everyone visit and give it a try. We’ll definitely be back.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Yalihan Aspendos Hotel, and overall we would definitely recommend it.
The greatest strength of this hotel is, without question, the staff. Every single member of the team was friendly, welcoming, attentive and genuinely cared about the guests. From reception and housekeeping to the restaurant and bar staff, everyone made us feel valued throughout our stay. The level of service was exceptional.
The hotel was also immaculately clean. Our room, the restaurants, the pool area and all common areas were maintained to a very high standard. Housekeeping did an excellent job every day, and the minibar was regularly refilled with quality drinks.
The cocktails were excellent, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel was calm, relaxing and perfect for a holiday.
There are, however, a few areas where the hotel could improve. The buffet was always fresh, well prepared and tasty, but after several days the lunch and dinner selection became somewhat repetitive. We would also have appreciated a wider selection of healthy options, fresh salads and lighter dishes.
Another area that could be improved is guest information. Compared with other resort hotels we have visited, information was rather limited. At times we found ourselves having to figure things out on our own. More information about the hotel facilities, daily activities, transportation, the local area and recommended excursions would make the experience even better, especially for first-time visitors.
One moment during our stay deserves special mention. Both of us became ill with what appeared to be a stomach bug. We have no idea what caused it, and we are not suggesting it was related to the hotel. However, the staff noticed that we were unwell and surprised us with a thoughtful "Get Well Soon" gift delivered to our room. It was completely unexpected and showed genuine kindness and compassion. Small gestures like this say a great deal about the people working here.
Finally, although it is outside the hotel's control, we hope the local authorities continue working to improve the cleanliness of the sea. Some afternoons there was quite a bit of floating debris in the water, which unfortunately affected the swimming experience.
Overall, Yalihan Aspendos is a hotel with exceptional staff, outstanding cleanliness and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. While there are a few areas that could be improved, the genuine hospitality of the entire team made our holiday a memorable one.
Thank you to everyone at Yalihan Aspendos for your kindness and care. We would gladly return in the future.
The hotel itself is clean, well maintained and the facilities are in good condition, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars rather than 1.
Unfortunately, the food completely ruined our holiday. During our stay, we met around 10 guests, including ourselves, who became seriously ill with what appeared to be food poisoning. We spent much of the week worried about what was safe to eat and ended up sticking to only a handful of options.
What concerned us most was the food handling. We saw food being mixed with fresh batches, and seafood left out in the heat for long periods, with some of it not even kept on ice. From what we observed, some of the practices did not appear to meet the standard you would expect from an all-inclusive hotel. I’ve attached photos of some of what we witnessed.
The à la carte restaurant options were also disappointing. There are three restaurants on site: seafood, steak and Italian. However, both the steak and Italian restaurants require an additional payment, leaving the seafood restaurant as the only included option. Given many people are understandably cautious about eating seafood while on holiday, particularly after seeing the food handling elsewhere in the resort, this felt like a poor offering.
We were also disappointed with the entertainment. Apart from one evening, it was mostly live music, which we didn’t think was particularly good. There was very little variety throughout the week, and there wasn’t a schedule available for guests, so it was difficult to know what was happening each day or plan our evenings.
One thing that also made the stay more difficult was the language barrier. It felt like the hotel mainly catered for Dutch and German guests, which is absolutely fine, but we found communication quite challenging as many of the staff we spoke to had very limited English. Even simple requests often became stressful. Ironically, many people we met outside the hotel spoke better English than the staff working there.
We also found many of the staff to be quite dismissive when we asked questions or requested assistance. Rather than feeling welcomed, it often felt like we were inconveniencing them, which had a noticeable impact on our overall experience.
What disappointed us even more was how little flexibility there was from the hotel. Our friends got engaged during the holiday, and we wanted to surprise them by decorating their room. We asked if the hotel could provide a few rose petals or some flowers to go alongside the decorations we’d already arranged, but we were told we’d have to pay €15 to €20 for what felt like a very small gesture. It seemed like a missed opportunity to help create a memorable moment for guests.
Finally, the beach wasn’t what we expected. The sea was quite murky and didn’t feel particularly clean during our stay. The sand also became so hot during the day that it was almost impossible to walk on barefoot, making it difficult to enjoy the beach without shoes.
It’s a real shame because the hotel itself has a lot of positives, but when you don’t feel confident eating the food, communication is difficult, the staff often come across as dismissive, the entertainment is limited and even simple requests are handled without much flexibility, it overshadows everything else. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and not somewhere we would choose to return to unless there were significant improvements.
Our stay at Yalihan Aspendos was unfortunately overshadowed by a serious illness that completely ruined the last two days of our holiday.
From the moment we arrived, our first impression wasn’t the best. The gentleman on reception struggled to understand us (we are English) and came across as quite rude. It was very different from the warm welcomes we have received at other hotels in the past.
A member of staff kindly took our suitcases to our room, which we appreciated. However, after showing us into the room, he stood there silently for around three minutes, simply staring at us without saying anything. It felt very awkward, and it seemed as though he was expecting a tip. We found this quite uncomfortable, as in our experience at other hotels, taking luggage to your room is simply part of the standard service.
Before travelling, we had seen several reviews mentioning a language barrier for English-speaking guests. The hotel had replied to many of those reviews stating that all staff are trained to speak good English, but unfortunately that was not our experience. On numerous occasions in both the restaurant and the bars, staff struggled to understand what we were asking for and simply gave us what they thought we wanted. While we appreciate that English is not everyone’s first language, the hotel’s responses to previous reviews gave us different expectations.
We also found that, at times, it felt as though we were treated differently because we were English. When ordering drinks from the pool bars, interactions with us often felt rushed and dismissive, whereas we regularly saw staff smiling, laughing and chatting with guests who spoke their language. It made us feel like we were a nuisance rather than valued guests. On one occasion, a blonde lady working behind the pool bar misunderstood what I had asked for, rolled her eyes at me, and then abruptly passed me over to another member of staff to deal with. It was an unpleasant experience and made me feel quite uncomfortable.
One of our biggest frustrations throughout the holiday was the ridiculous “sunbed wars” around the pool. For the first four days, we didn’t even get the opportunity to sit by the pool because every sunbed had already been reserved, so we spent our time on the beach instead. While the beach was nice, we had paid for the holiday just like everyone else and wanted the chance to enjoy both the beach and the pool during our stay.
After realising we had no chance of getting a sunbed at a normal time, I ended up setting my alarm for 5:45am just to secure two beds. Even then, many sunbeds already had towels on them before 6:00am. What made it even more frustrating was that many people would reserve beds early in the morning and then disappear for most of the day, sometimes only using them for around 20 minutes. This was incredibly selfish and meant other guests had no chance of finding somewhere to sit.
The hotel’s own policy states that sunbeds cannot be reserved before 6:00am and that belongings left unattended for more than two hours may be removed. Unfortunately, from what we experienced, neither of these rules was enforced. We witnessed several heated arguments between guests over sunbeds, with hotel management having to step in and calm situations down. This clearly shows how much of an issue it had become, and we feel the hotel could easily improve the experience by properly enforcing its own rules.
Although we spent several days on the beach instead, there was another issue there too. Around the same time each day, there was a very unpleasant sewage smell that spread across the beach area, which wasn’t particularly enjoyable when trying to relax.
That being said, there were some lovely members of staff who deserve recognition. The lady who cleaned our room each day was always friendly and did an excellent job. We’d also like to give a special mention to the hotel’s on-site photographer. He was one of the only members of staff who consistently made us feel welcome, always stopping to chat with us each day. He took some beautiful photos of us and, unlike photographers at some resorts, he was never pushy when it came to selling them. He was a real credit to the hotel.
Unfortunately, some other members of staff let the hotel down. There were several occasions where I smiled at cleaners or other staff members as I walked back to my room, only to be met with unpleasant looks or no acknowledgement at all, which made me feel quite uncomfortable.
The biggest issue, however, was what happened towards the end of our holiday. Both my partner and I became extremely unwell with severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Our symptoms were so severe that we required medical treatment, including IV fluids at the local hospital. We were still so ill after returning home that we both had to take additional time off work to recover.
During the night, while we were waiting for the nurse to arrive, we could hear other guests in nearby rooms being sick as well. Another guest also told us that his children had become ill. Since returning home, we have also come across many videos and posts on social media from other guests describing very similar experiences at this hotel, which is deeply concerning.
Before we became ill, we had been enjoying our holiday, but the final two days were spent confined to our room and in hospital instead of making the most of our trip. It was heartbreaking to end what should have been a lovely holiday in such distress.
We sincerely hope the hotel takes these reports seriously and carries out a thorough investigation so that future guests do not have to go through the same experience.
Based on our experience, we personally would not recommend this hotel to English-speaking guests. If you’re happy staying somewhere where many staff members have limited English, it may not be an issue for you. However, communication was a recurring problem throughout our stay and it had a significant impact on our overall experience.
Sadly, despite some hardworking and genuinely kind members of staff, our overall experience was extremely disappointing. We will not be returning to Yalihan Aspendos, and unfortunately we cannot recommend it.
We had a lovely stay. Beautifully clean inside (the cleaner was so friendly) and outside area kept perfectly too. Cocktail menu is amazing as was the food. Only a short walk to the town. Hope to come back. Thanks to all the brilliant staff.
