Landmar Costa Los Gigantes

We arrived late around 10pm, check in was quick as we checked in at at the Landi desk as we had a Landi Village Suite. It was dark and no real help to locate our room, during the day this is evident. Once we located our room it was lovely, clean and spacious. The Landi extras are bath robes, slippers, kids washing bag, filled mini fridge (one bag of crisps, two cans of pop, large milk carton and two cartons of juice. The cleaners are in every day and they work very hard keeping everywhere clean. Air con was terrible, very old system that didn’t work well at all. The pool area was good, we used the Landi area which was ok. Only one cocktail they make on the day of the week which wasn’t the best. The Nautilus bar was again ok but I used occasionally due to seeing pigeons on the food area. The staff see them but don’t act upon it. The hotel itself is clean but paving is dangerous and needs urgent repairs as there is a lot of loose tiles. I did see cockroaches around the area but for the size of the area was minimal. The sunset bar was a joke, huge queues, pre made cocktails and not a great choice compared with previous holidays. Entertainment is focused around the kids which at other places I’ve stayed entertained the adults. Spa area brilliant, good facilities and great we went in as a family. Food times were manic but that is school holidays for you. Food was ok in main restaurant but found the staff in Volcan very rude towards me after entering then told to leave as it was closed even though people were in there eating and I already had picked up food. Don’t get me started on the flies…. They are everywhere! All in all a nice break but this hotel is not for me

We have just returned from an 11 night stay. We were a party of 15 and every one of us really enjoyed ourselves!

Firstly all staff were friendly and helpful, starting with the people on reception at check in, following through to staff in the restaurants, bars, entertainment team, cleaners etc., all very nice. Special mention to: Leon in the bar - always very happy and have a friendly chat Debora in the spa - their computers went down when we were paying to go in and she dealt with it very calmly and professionally Vanessa and Joana in Bones and Ciao - both dealt with a table for 15 very well (most tables were a max of 4 people) All the cleaning staff - you didn’t really spot them but the place (including bedrooms) were always so tidy

Food in the buffet is some of the best I’ve had in this kind of restaurant, there is always a lot of choice and everything is refreshed frequently.

Both à la carte restaurants were good, food was nice and service was fantastic. It was also a nice setting, with outside seating on a balcony which had a nice view of the coast.

The main bar and pool bar both had a great selection of drinks - try the alcohol free pina colada slushie!

The spa had great facilities considering the price, €21/adult and €15/child. Children are allowed in until a cut of time and then it is adults only. The children in our party loved the spa but I appreciate the adults only time worked well for some.

There is evening entertainment outside the main bar, it’s very good. There is also an indoor entertainment venue, we only went in there once to see Queen Project and they were amazing. For the children there is an arcade, it’s pricey but we set a daily budget.

There are a few pools and splash park, in one pool they have day time entertainment such as water polo, volleyball etc. the entertainment team are always around chatting to guests and trying to get everyone involved.

There is also a baby club/kids club/teenager club. We didn’t use these but every day the kids club was led to the restaurant for lunch, all wearing high vis to ensure they stayed together.

There is a football pitch, volleyball court and tennis court on site, we used the football pitch several times. There is also the high ropes, we did this once and it was great fun! You have to book it the day before at the hut opposite.

The hotel is in a good position for views but it’s up a steep hill. So a walk down to the beach is lovely but walking back up is hard work!! If you use the back gate it shortens the walk, you can exit/enter with your key card.

There were a few negatives: A few of the floor tiles in the outside areas were broken which was dangerous, they need to be fixed before someone takes a tumble.

Not that we had much chance to watch TV, but it would have been nice if Netflix worked.

It didn’t impact us but we didn’t see too much veggie/vegan food in the restaurant. But there was a sign that said to ask if there’s any dietary restrictions so I assume they will work around it.

When we visited the spa one steam room was out of action, I think you should be told before you pay to go in.

All in all it was a great holiday and I would recommend and visit again.

Room: we booked the Landi upgrade (accidentally because TUI has a good deal the day I booked and so it really wasn’t very much more. About £250 if I remember.) I actually thought upgrade was for the room itself but turns out all rooms are the same. We were in C320 which had a wonderful sea and pool view. Most features of the room were great and those that were not I reported on web app and it was fixed within hours. Air con worked really well. Only slight issue that wasn’t quite fixed was the fridge was not very cold. We did find filling it with bottles of water (refilled at the water dispensers around the hotel) really helped it stay colder.

Landi Package: I would say we enjoyed the perks but I think it’s a personal decision if you want it or not. From what I gathered they have ramped up the “differences” in the time we were there. We had a small child (4yrs) so being close to pool helped. Perks below:

• free pool towels ( normal deposit needed)
• free safe (normally €20)
• free spa sessions for each adult and each child over 4. (Normally 21€ per adult and 15€ per child)
• unlimited use if the al a carte restaurants
• exclusive area in Buffett restaurant serving smoked salmon and makeral, fresh crepes and smoothies and Prosecco for mimosa at breakfast. At lunch and dinner there are different, I think better, wines in that area. You can take stuff from this area out to the other area if you want you dont have to stay in that area.
• exclusive pool area where you can reserve sun beds at any time.
• unlimited cocktails of the day at Landi bar in exclusive area (you can go get them and take them outside that area you just need to have green wristbands to get them)
• snacks are again from the Landi bar (popcorn, cornetto style ice creams, small canapés)
• unlimited “mr whippy style” ice cream at reef bar

Restaurants: Buffet - was good. Great variety of food but I have had better quality last year at a TUI blue. Was good enough though and little Landi perks helped. Only issue was the random order of everything. Butter nowhere near bread for example. Not a major issue. Ciao - we had a great meal (ravioli for me and hubby had spag Bol) just small portions. We did not like the sound of starters. Little boy didn’t like the pizza (he is very picky and doesn’t like herbs on pizza 🙈🙈). So we decided to go for dessert in Buffett so we could get him to eat food while we had dessert. So we didn’t sample Ciao desserts. Bones - this had bad reviews but we decided to try it and it was great. Better than Ciao for us. I had steak medium and was perfect and cut was ok. Don’t get me wrong not the most amazing steak ever but I didn’t expect that at an AI hotel. Hubby had beef ribs and this was really good. Starters were great and so was dessert. (Apple crumble)

Drinks: very good. Wine and prosecco all very good (I am picky with wine). Landi area wines with meals were better but others were ok. Included cocktails were good. Sometimes made fresh sometimes pre-made and waiting in a blender to be poured. We had one paid for cocktail each and these were amazing!! Hubby drank beer and sangria and said they were great. Basic Alcohol is pretty much self serve during the day. Paper cups though! We took Insulated large cups with lids plus plastic wine glasses. Beer on tap, wine and fizz in buckets of ice in buffet and in main snack bar. Reef pool bar had beer on tap you need to ask for others here. Soft drinks on tap in lots of locations. Only slight gripe was I did not see the advertised “Landi drinks van”. On pics it was supposed to be on lower level near golf and splash park but it wasn’t. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ In the evening drink can be got in Broadway bar if an act is on or sunset bar. This was where issues came in. Sunset bar queue was insane sometimes and whilst they work through it quickly can get very backed up. Also never enough seats outside!!!

Entertainment: was good for the kids. A bit mad at times but that’s what kids like. We didn’t use kids club but we did do Landi disco every night. (This is for everyone not just Landi upgraded guests). Daytime entertainment was at both pools. In the activity (main larger pool) there were all sorts of things like volleyball, running mats, inflatables. We don’t go there much so probably lots more. In other pool near blocks A to D, there was yoga, aerobics, some kids activities. Martha who ran this was amazing and included everyone; green wristbands or blue. Music at both pools. Can not comment on Teens as didn’t use this facility.

Pools: both great. Loads of sun beds all day. Yes Landi upgrade allows a small area (I emphasise small) to be pre-saved with towels. This suited us because we have small child and wanted to be next to pool to monitor him. Again some posts on Facebook group have led people to think they can’t use the pool or the snack bar if not Landi. This is not true. It is literally a small area of beds and in the small area there is an excluder serving cocktail of the day and canapés. Pools are clean and warm after a few seconds. Lifeguard between 10am and 6pm.

The resort: so easy to navigate. So ultra clean and tidy. The cleaning staff are busy all day keeping the rooms and the surroundings clean. The gardeners work well too meaning it looks attractive.

Other Facilities: didn’t use high ropes or slides. Splash park is really good for little ones. Could do with a cover for parents to stand or a seat or two. Mini golf is good. Didn’t use sports facilities but looked good. Spa was amazing. They do family times and adults only times. They advertised a soft play but it had been removed and was being replaced by a Playground. Sadly this never opened while we were there and work on it looked non-existent.

Overall it was an amazing stay. Only tiny improvements I think they could make:

• better fridges in rooms
• More seats at sunset bar (even just fold out seats on a rack that can be put away in day time)
• Reinstate Landi van near splash park (or something similar.)
• There is confusion over the word “Landi” for the upgrade. As it’s the name of the mascot. People think that they can’t use “Landi Club” and “Landi disco” for example because they have not upgraded. Maybe needs more explanation to non-upgraded guests.
• Bench and cover for parents at splash park.
• Hotel or tour operators should have let booked guests know if the changes made. Eg the fact that soft play had gone and was not replaced yet, the lack of Landi van, changes to Landi Town area (did not effect me but I know non-upgraded guests did struggle with this)
