- Barcelo Santiago

Situated in a magnificent frontline position in Puerto de Santiago on the west coast of Tenerife, the modern hotel boasts spectacular views over the impressive cliffs of Los Gigantes, the Atlantic Ocean and the island of La Gomera. Restaurants and bars are just a few steps away. The international airport Tenerife South is at a distance of approximately 45 km from the hotel. The rooms have a stylish design and most of them enjoy fantastic views of the sea and the cliffs. The hotel offers outdoor pools, a mini-club, a gym and various sports facilities. Guests can get pampered in the excellent spa area with hydro massage pools or sip on a cocktail while taking in the remarkable atmosphere of the surroundings.
We recently spent 7 nights at Barceló Santiago for a romantic getaway and proposal trip, and overall we had an amazing holiday that we thoroughly enjoyed. I would whole-heartedly recommend this hotel, especially for couples looking for a beautiful and relaxing escape.
Room & Comfort
We stayed in a Superior Deluxe Room which was modern, bright, and spacious enough for two people, with plenty of storage for a week-long stay. The beds were extremely comfortable, and we had a mini-fridge and TV. The AC was a refreshing addition to the room. The views from our balcony over La Gomera and the Los Gigantes cliffs were simply breathtaking—and since our room overlooked the stage, we even enjoyed watching the evening entertainment right from our balcony on a couple of nights! The bathroom features a stylish glass enclosure; the only small design downside is that the toilet cubicle area felt a bit cramped.
Food & Drink
We were on the All-Inclusive package, which was great value as it included a wide range of premium alcoholic, soft drinks and water which in the heat was much needed.
Bars: The Breeze Bar was quick with service (offering table service in the evenings), but our personal favourite was the Aloe Bar after 8:00 PM, it was wonderfully quiet, relaxed, and offered great table service.
Buffet (Drago): The food selection varied nicely with different themed nights alongside staple comfort foods (salads, chips, etc.), and there was always a live cooking station with fresh meats prepared right in front of you. My only minor critique here was the amount of flies around the buffet area—adding simple food covers over the displays would easily solve this.
Service & Staff
Check-in was seamless and efficient. Isabella explained all the resort details clearly, including the towel token system (you get one free change). Arriving late, we were delighted to find a selection of sandwiches and cold drinks waiting by reception, a lovely, thoughtful touch. Every team member we encountered was warm and helpful. Special mentions must go to:
Alicia: Exceptionally friendly and pleasant throughout our stay.
Gabriella (Guest Experience Manager): A massive personal thank you to Gabriella! In the months leading up to our trip, she helped me organise a room surprise and coordinate my proposal to my partner. Her recommendations and assistance were fantastic and helped make our moment truly special.
Pools, Spa & Entertainment
The hotel grounds are impeccably clean, modern, and beautifully maintained. We made full use of all three pool areas, which boast unbeatable ocean and cliff views. As part of our proposal celebrations, I booked a private couple’s hour at the U-Spa complete with cava and fresh fruit. It was incredibly relaxing and a highlight of the trip!
The animation team worked tirelessly during the day (though we mostly relaxed by the pools rather than joining in). Evening entertainment was mostly live bands and musicians. While enjoyable, I feel the lineup could benefit from a bit more variety, and using the internal theatre area rather than the outdoor space might suit the evening shows better.
Location & Surrounding Area
The hotel’s position on the coastline is stunning. Right outside, you have convenient access to supermarkets, local bars, and restaurants like La Pérgola. A quick 10-minute taxi ride takes you into the heart of the area, we visited the Mirador Los Guíos viewpoint for the proposal itself, followed by a celebratory meal at Aqua Restaurant, which served a beautifully crafted local menu alongside stunning sunset views.
Verdict
Spotless facilities, top-tier hospitality, unforgettable views, and wonderful memories made. We would return in a heartbeat!
We had a 10-day break in January having previously stayed in Barcelo's 5-star hotel in La Caleta. This is a four-star resort hotel so did have a very different vibe with lots of positives and a couple of disappointments. The good stuff: great pool area with lots of loungers clean, quiet room friendly staff excellent food (half-board = buffet style breakfast and dinner) scenic views
Disappointments: the corridors are dull and exterior walls need cleaned/rendered pool entertainment isn't to everyone's taste (loud music if you want it or not) the local area is very hilly making walking around a bit of a challenge shallow shower tray means the bathroom floor floods easily
Just had a week here & not disappointed 👍 had the junior suite with breathtaking views , food was good with a theme most nights and a roast , breakfast plentiful & lunch excellent choices , odd wait at the breeze bar hence serving other than Ai & prepping meals, entertainment satisfactory , room clean and presentable throughout the week , nice receptionist who checked us in & out , nice quiet resort & staff particularly dining staff & cleaners & bar friendly enough as well as the pool team
Having read bad reviews as I do i just can't understand the moaners ?
Would certainly love to visit again after a bit of banter comparing Landmar Arena playa lol Barcelo is better IMHO
Regards Chris
Ps allo bar 10/10 with a personal touch & waited on without fuss
Decent resort but not a great choice having the evening entertainment directly above guest rooms - extremely noisy until 11pm every night.
We found the rooms incredibly clean. The view from our balcony was breathtaking we could see the mountains, sea and pool. We were blown away with the drinks available in the all inclusive package such as real Smirnoff, Dissoronno, amazing cocktails. As well as this the pool bar was amazing, steaks, burgers, ribs, noodles. We have been to many all inclusive hotels and can honestly say we have never experienced such good options included. The staff were all polite and friendly. We especially loved Alicia who was one of the waitresses in the pool bar, she was so friendly, funny, and always smiley. The entertainment in the day and evening was good, in the day Mani one of the entertainment guys was so energetic and made the activities really fun, I really enjoyed the aqua gym. We loved the Barceló party night and the acrobatic act, in the evening. it was a shame that the music and acts stopped so abruptly, it would have been nice to have some background music after the entertainment finished. The food in the canteen was varied and there was something for everyone. We are a vegetarian and vegan couple and there was always something on offer. The location was absolutely beautiful, we loved the views of the mountain and the cliff edges. We went snorkelling right outside the hotel, we were in walking distance of Lidl and the gorgeous marina where we got the flipper uno (a pirate ship) to spot dolphins. I highly recommend this as it was an unforgettable and fantastic trip. The local area is sadly extremely quiet, there was only a small amount of restaurants, bars and shops and they are all struggling to stay open, constantly dead. We didn’t mind the quiet as we were looking forward to a relaxing holiday but some people may prefer a little more going on around the hotel. We did get the local bus to Los Christianos one day which was around and hour and a bit. This area was sooo busy, but was nice for a one day trip. We also took a local bus to Siam Park which was around an hour away. So worth it though.
Overall we had a brilliant time, the hotel was amazing.
